    What was really stupid is that players in the past have been banned then reinstated before yet these guys were banned for life.

    I was one of the guys holding up D.B. Sweeney character (Joe Jackson) in this courtroom scene. I really enjoyed being in this film, and it was a real honor to hang out with so many fine actors.

      I almost met him in 2009 going to Afghanistan working for the USO, but didn’t. He was one of those up and comers in the late 1980’s that never made it to teen magazines because he was a little too old and his movies were geared towards adults. Lonesome Dove didn’t do anything, either. Even Diane Lane’s character rejected him, LOL. He finally got on the radar somewhat with The Cutting Edge and Fire in the Sky. Anyway, despite being overlooked, he’s a good dude and should have made it better.

    Comiskey: I will make them pay for this.
    Kenesaw Mountain Landis: You won’t have to Mr. Comiskey. I will do it for you.

    What a shame! In 1988, few people cared about movies like this. But this was from the same director that made the equally cerebral Matewan a year earlier, another great classic nobody cared about then. John Cusack and Charlie Sheen were in it and it lasted maybe 2 weeks in theaters. People wanted movies like Big and Die Hard that overshadowed these films. I know because I was personally there to witness it. I saw this on opening night at Northcross Mall in Austin, Texas and the theater wasn’t even half full!

      Yep and that’s sadly still true to this day. That’s why we have all these mindless action films and endless remakes of older films that pale by comparison.
      I don’t mind action like Top Gun, on occasion, but Hollywood really needs to go back to making films that make an audience think. Films like Eight Men Out and Shawshank Redemption.

    The American Hollywood Character Actor John Anderson Looked Almost Looked Exactly The Late American Judge And First Major League Baseball Commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis. 3 Years In The 1991 Film "The Babe " He Played The Role Of Kenesaw Mountain Landis One Last Time And Died The Following Year In 1992.

    0:42 Charlie Sheen and DB Sweeney
    0:43 John Cusack, Michael Rooker and Don Harvey
    0:45 David Strathain, Perry Lang and James Read

      Charlie Sheen and D.B. Sweeney were listed as the stars of this movie before it came out. But both of them put together didn’t even have two minutes of the movie. D.B. Sweeney never became a star, poor guy! John Cusack had a somewhat large role and a great one. Don Harvey and Michael Rooker were complete unknowns when this came out as far
      as I know. David Strathairn was a Sayles regular. Perry Lang from Spring Break. Don’t know about James Read.

    @falcon3268 Judge Landis wanted to set a precedent / to send a message by making them examples.

    • @wvu05
      @wvu05 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      And he spat on that precedent five years later by declaring a three-year statute of limitations when Ty Cobb and Tris Speaker were accused of fixing a game.
