My son ( age 36) said to me "I can`t get this song out of my head and I don`t even know the words!" He hummed a few notes and I said "Going Up the Country" by Canned Heat! I felt so knowledgeable (LOL). BTW, I`m 74, also.

@@garyschneider8829and Bob Bear Hite as well, relatively speaking. Him and his lady approached my sister in law and I, at my bank parking lot in the late 70’s. I was on crutches (but no cast, as I had a rod put through my femur), and his lady had recently gone through brain surgery (I believe is what she said), and they wanted to know about my situation. Had a lovely conversation and was invited to their place in Box Cyn, to listen to what Bear described as his extensive record collection. A few short years later, he had passed as well.🙏💜
The details of both Bob and Alan’s passing are heartbreakingly sad! Ty for mentioning Alan’s passing 🤘 I believe he and Bear started the band as a joke…but both were heavy blues aficionados.

This song was out about 6 years before the end of the vietnam war...14 years of their life prior to this point (1969) has been our country at war with Vietnam.. so many influences both known and unknown...the cameras only give us a small glimpse into a past that truly is not that far away...but damn is time fast..the styles...the clothing...the music...the cameras...the vibes....the dope ass hair..RIP

    * Going Up The Country (1968)
    Songwriters: ALAN WILSON
    Sung by Canned Heat
*ㅡ Going Up The Country ㅡ*
I'm going up the country, babe don't you wanna go
I'm going to some place where I've never been before
I'm going, I'm going where the water tastes like wine
Well I'm going where the water tastes like wine
We can jump in the water, stay drunk all the time
I'm gonna leave this city, got to get away
All this fussing and fighting, man, you know I sure can't stay
Now baby, pack your leaving trunk, you know we've got to leave today
Just exactly where we're going I cannot say, but We might even leave The USA
'Cause there's a brand new game that I want to play
No use of you running, or screaming and crying
'Cause you've got a home as long as I've got mine
