I have a mammoth with 8 heads. First there was one, as it matured 2 more popped up beside it. As I trimmed the original head I could clearly see 5 more buds at least. Now I have 4 flowers on it growing all at once with about 3 or 4 more buds sprouting. Standing about 8 foot taller than my dog kennel that I'm use as a fence. That's about a 14 or 15 foot tall plant.

I have that exact same stove! It’s the only stove I bought at the house I’ve lived at for 18 years. I’ve replaced 3 fridges, 2 toasters, 2 lawn mowers, 3 cars, 4 washers and 3 dryers in the same time frame. But that electric range is still cooking!

I spent "months" on my garden and most of my yard is full of chicken wire now to keep squirrels, rabbits and maybe even birds away. In these videos I see beautiful gardens with everything growing without any issues.. then in my yard every vegetable has huge marks from banging on wire (once you put chicken wire around anything like a pumpkin it stunts its growth like it knows the wire is in the way). All I have remaining are a couple mammoth sunflowers of which I'd like to feel some type of accomplishment with being able to have seeds for me (I made a pile of stuff for the creatures but they love taking 1 bite or so then go to the next plant).

I received a packet of sunflower seeds as a "wedding favor" last year and planted 3 seeds per hole. I had no idea that what was growing and I just harvested were "Mammoth Sunflowers". Your video was easy to follow and understand and I learned a great deal. I am letting my seeds dry out for a couple days then will pull the from the head and follow your brine and roast method. Thank you again!!!

I just cut 5 m ba am mouths for drying. I'm hooked on growing sunflowers! Their fast growth rate is amazing to watch. I was so in l with blooms! Now I have zillions of seeds. Thanks for your video. Helpful and stayed on topic.
This was very helpful this year is the first year I grew mammath sunflowers and was really looking forward to the seeds but unfortunly the birds got to some of them before me because I didn't even realize they were ready to cut down and pick. thanks for the information

Watching you from England…I wasn’t aware that you could eat the shell as well. In my mind, only birds do that. I usually left all my Titan sunflower heads for the wildlife. The brine was helpful and makes sense, so I’ll try your method this year ! Great video….I subbed, too.

In my culture (I'm Russian), a lot of people will take the shell from the sunflower seeds they ate and use it to make halva. Halva is basically a sweet type of dessert made from sunflower shells and some other ingredients. Its delicious 😋

I had a lot of fun watching this video, laughed quite a bit so thank you for that! Ive been growing mammoths for years and have yet to get them as large as yours but also have yet to be able to eat the seeds as the squirrels have always feasted on them before harvesting. This is my first year getting to harvest and of course they are the puniest flowers I've ever grown. Oh well, still happy to try them. I make BATCHES of pumpkin seeds every year and always toss them in salt and oil before roasting so I was surprised to see you didn't oil yours at all. Is there a specific reason for this or just an unnecessary step?

Hello, do I need to cut the flower and let it dry out a few days? Or will it be ready for this process right after cut the flower?

I had frost this morning. looks like some of the seeds got damaged. petals have fallen off and back of flower turnung yellow. The seeds are plump but dont have clear black stripes. should I try to dry it out indoors anyways?

So mammoth seeds you just want a couple black stripes? Squirrels got to most of mine but I saved one and have two left. Also are they supposed to be hung to dry?
My seeds are very white and slightly fuzzy, but the flower was a month old and the petals were all dead. Yours seem darker are mine not ready?
makeing right now i cheaked them at 20 mins fliping every 3 mins i tryed 1 its still a little wetish on the inside i cooked a extra 10 mins still looks a little wet not watery just i can see its not like dry smaller black seeds so whats the deal in the inside after cooking is the nut dry or some what wet mine did not snap it pealed bendable
hi i live in brazil and i really liked the idea, but i can't find this kind of sunflower. does the traditional one work or is its shell too hard? do you harvest half green or is the variety that you grow the bark less fibrous?

My seeds got soaked and I dont know what to do and I bet they can dry but what if they mold man do in just throw them out?...
What was the brine salt water and what in the plastic cup? I was going to do water and vinegar to clean up my seeds wasn't sure if the brine would be better overall

Sunflower seeds is a thing in my culture so we have the 'skill' of splitting the shell easily by fixing the seed between two fingers then splitting it by our teeth ,it's easy,fast and funny ,actually we eat sunflower seeds in our spare time or when watching tv just like popcorn and believe me it releases your stress ,but once you begin peeling these seeds you can't stop till the bowl is empty 😂

I would really appreciate help regarding mammoth sunflowers and the internet has basically not gotten me anywhere. My biggest concern is since I want the seeds to eat for "myself" (not the squirrels or birds) and the internet said wait until the petals fall off before cutting what do I do when alot of the flower head has already been eaten (I just found what looked like little black poop on the back of the flower head that're thinner than mouse poop). It was hard when I tried putting cheesecloth over the flower heads when leaves were in the way and the entire heads immediately drooped badly.

I was reading that you're supposed to wait for the seeds to change color. Is there a reason you didn't? I might get out there and harvest mine sooner. I saw you do this and it really doesn't seem too bad. We usually let the birds (and squirrels) get them because I thought it'd be too much effort.
A fair question. I surmise that it depends on the type of sunflower you're growing. I have had success doing what I showed in this video before the birds & squirrels get to them.

Any tips, on how to grow them this big?
My 🌻Sunflowers are GIGANTIC...usually 15 feet or more and loaded with huge seeds. I can grow them anywhere with ease.....well NOW I can....after nearly 10 years of complete failure..I couldn't grow a 2 inch sunflower if my life depended on it....but THEN ..I started making my own fertilizer and and it's been 100% success and they always grow MUCH bigger than the package says ot will.
📝 My simple 3 ingredient fertilizer :
🌱CHICKEN POOP
🌱ASHES from. bonfire wood (any hardwood)
🌱EGGSHELLS (crushed)
🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻
My shells are empty. Any idea what has gone wrong?
No pollinators. If you don't have a lot of bees you can hand pollinate using a soft paint brush

This could possibly be my last year on earth so I'm feeling a bit too sensitive about this and have actually cried (please tell me what to do to keep the vermin away until the sunflowers seeds are ready for "me" to roast).
Look into barn owl houses, they kill about two thousand mice, voles, shrews, chip monks…
Grow sunflower microgreens. It is easy to cook and more nutritious than the seeds.

No!! Don't do that. The salt would be detrimental to the seed!!
