Back when the X8 was announced, quite a few were skeptical that it would be on par with the originals. Understandably, because this had big shoes to fill. I always thought, “Let’s wait for Luke to put out his soundset, then we’ll be the judge.”
And sure enough, it’s classic Oberheim all the way through. It just goes to show, don’t doubt Luke. His demos will make any synth shine!
That means a lot mate. I put so much work into making this soundset sound as Oberheim as can be. Thanks for noticing
Jesus Luke... this one is a mind blowingly nostalgic. Listening to this, my t-shirt instantly grew shoulder pads and I'm somehow now wearing rollerskates!
Ace work as usual Luke! Another must-purchase. Hope you are doing well man! Give your curly-haired son a high five for giving you enough time to knock out this soundset. My 3 yr old son barely lets me touch my keyboards before he's jumping on there with me, turning all of the knobs. I bet he will dig this soundset too ;)
Vintage/Classic for the OB-X8 features a huge library of classic sounds. 128 singles and 24 multis.
The emphasis has been to create those big fat warm tones that the vintage OBs are so well known for. But it doesn’t stop there as it became clear throughout the making of this soundset that the OB-X8 is very capable of producing convincing vintage Prophet sounds as well as some surprisingly accurate Minimoog stye basses.
You’ll find many recreations of classic tracks such as Prince’s Little Red Corvette and 1999, as well many Prince style chords and leads, Van Halen’s Dreams and Jump. Rush’s Subdivisions. Lots of Jam and Lewis style patches, the Terminator lead and many more.

This synth has become my favourite synth. It just sounds so beautiful. I hope you enjoy this soundset as i’ve worked harder and longer on it then any other soundset before.
Hi Luke! I hope you are doing well! Out of necessity, I have transformed into a VST guy, so it's likely that I will never own an OB-X8 (the temptation is there, but...lol). Nevertheless, your soundsets are always *spectacular* , so I made myself a coffee, plugged in my headphones and just started to enjoy your latest creations. So far they all sound superb! Cheers!

It's already my favorite synth and I haven't even bought one yet. I used to own an OB-Xa and the DSX sequencer. Nothing sounds like an Oberheim but nothing sounds like a Prophet, or a Juno, or PPG...you get the idea. 🙂

I don't suppose you made patch sheets for this did you? I'd definitely buy it just for that, just to see how they were created on this. I have one but having never used an original I've found there is a learning curve to the workflow on Oberheims versus other vintage synths I've used, it's almost a different ballgame, lol! Great job on this either way!
I didn’t but if you get an editor such as Soundtower it will show you everything that makes up each patch :)

They can load to either the OB8, OBXa, OBSx or OBX banks
