  • Smeg recently acquired one of the world-renowned coffee brands of all time: La Pavoni. Smeg known as much more of an appliance brand has been trying to improve its position in the market and by buying such a unique historic brand like La Pavoni it might have done the trick.
    I spoke to Leon in Australia about the range that they offer of semiautomatic and manual machines, and what people can expect in the future of their espresso machines.

    I am super passionate about coffee and educating people on all aspects of this amazing drink. I love bringing the stories back from the other side of the world about how they grow and process the coffee differently in each farm, in each region, in each country. I also love helping baristas around the world make better coffee for themselves, whether they're at home, professional, competitors and or even just venturing out into the wide world of coffee.
    About Ryd!
    In a world where coffee has become elitist and over-the-top hipster, Ryd is on a mission to make specialty coffee inviting and undiscriminating; creating a community of coffee lovers who want to share their thoughts, ask questions and appreciate that we are all on a journey uncovering the delights of home-brewed coffee.

    Great video and info session. I got my Stradivari Europiccola and Kube Mill grinder in December. It took a lot of practice for me to dial it all in, but now I am pulling the most exquisite shot and making a delicious cappuccino every morning. It's a commitment but well worth if you like to engage with your coffee on another level. I've since had coffee from hi-end cafes but nothing compares to the rich and scrumptious espresso the La Pavoni delivers.

    10:51 A 58mm filter would require 30% more pressure on the lever. A smaller filter diameter requires less force to make your espresso.

    Under new ownership, it seems La Pavoni is leaning towards the Boutique market. While I'm sure there is market share to be had there, I feel a more simplistic machine with solid quality control and improvements will wear better in the long run. Provide the required improvements and build it bullet proof and your dedicated followers will remain along with the new crowd.

      It will be interesting to see how it goes and if the Smeg machines improve as a biproduct of being attached to La Pavoni.

      @@Rydecoffeecoach Actually it's appears La Pavoni is now attached to SMEG, a good opportunity regardless.

    I bought my La Pavoni Europiccola about a year agao and I absolutely love it. I use it daily and would never want anything else. Probably a Stradivari.

    So weird to think of buying a La Pavoni from Harvey Norman! Great video Ryd, it's so good to see this brand coming back properly. Any chance we will see some usage of lever machines in your upcoming vids?

    I’ve been researching La Pavonis of late, thinking about whether to buy a new or used one. One complaint that I’ve read about the new ones is that they’ve gone with a cheaper, thinner gauge metal for the base, and that it creates more flex when force is applied to pull a shot.

    10:55 a big reason it's not 58mm is because the bigger the portafilter the harder it is to press. Flair 58 gets away with it with a really long lever, Cafelat Robot uses two levers.
    He's right that the group head would need to be bigger but also it would need a heavier reinforcement to the boiler.
    Also 51mm was introduced at the turn of the century, "pre-millenium" machines were 49mm and there are still many of those in circulation to this day second hand.

      Thanks for sharing that insight! 🙌 Yeh I guess I've just become so used to everything 58mm that I have set myself up with bias 😅

    @antoniokozmas9916 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Ryd I was sold up until the 51 porter-filter 🤣 but I must say if I ever do look at another machine I’d definitely look at the hand levers to actually have that kind of control is amazing 😊

    • @Rydecoffeecoach
      @Rydecoffeecoach  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh I know! Why 51mm just because it throws the design out? Man, I just disagree with that. 7mm ruins the look? Maybe it would, but still, the hassle in all the accessories. 🤦

    Does the Cellini run a 58mm basket??

    Im between cellini and esperto edotto, wich will Create better espresso you think?

    • @Rydecoffeecoach
      @Rydecoffeecoach  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Ooh you'll open up a can of worms with that question! 😂 Lever heads will always say the lever machine makes better espresso and probably between the Cellini it will do. The levers have two unique abilities: to control pressure and flow, and full saturation of the puck in seconds.
      So, I would say you need to ask yourself these questions: Do I want a super manual machine to be able to profile each individual shot? Do I want convenience over that extra 10% better shot? Do I want to be able to find accessories easily (like tampers, puck screens, dosing funnels etc) the Cellini is standard 58mm.
      If you're keen to dive deep into chasing perfection then go the edotto

    • @raymondnafouti6451
      @raymondnafouti6451 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hahaha well the convinience sure sounds nice but at the same time i dont mind doing the extra work, the only important part for me is the 58mm head and that i wont be able to be able to get proper double espresso shots with the 51mm…

    Машина La Pavoni Botticelli Dual Boiler потекла при первом же включении, рабочего давления помпа не показала. Стоит такая красивая, кнопочки горят, но совершенно бесполезная и течет по-тихому. Приобреталась в качестве подарка, не включали 15 дней, попали на гарантийный ремонт. Гарантийный ремонт в исполнении ООО "Время кухни" (продавец) и ООО "СМЕГ Руссия" (поставщик) превратился в кошмар - машинку забрали и 12 дней никакой информации. Дали телефоны 3 (трех) авторизованных центров. Первый сразу же забрал машинку, никакой информации о ее судьбе больше нет. На звонки обещают уточнить и перезвонить. Может и уточняют, но не перезванивают, следующий раз - опять обещание уточнять. Уже боязно, не мошенники ли, вернется ли машинка, опять же - какая?! Ведь если врут, значит это кому-нибудь нудно. Вкус кофе - ужасный: его нет.

    feels like they looked at what the community was already doing with the mods and just re-branding it. Rather than looking into why the community did what they did and innovated based on that. Their is nothing new other than accent statements and a price tag. Feel exactly like Smeg. Do the least amount and expect the most. Other than the wood finishes and the metal choices, why wouldnt someone just buy a used or older model and refurb and/or mod it for cheaper? Bragging rights? Why keep the 51mm basket? Inventory and tooling :D

      Yeh nothing much since early days. I expect that will change once the Meticulous hits the open market. Then companies will have to respond.
