Thanks Matt. You gave me a couple of tips that I used on my computer. I didn't realize that my stuff on the desk top might be slowing down my computer so I used your idea of putting the stuff in folders and I love the decluttering idea and I appreciate the tutorial.
Being a Computer science graduate, I was unaware of the fact that disabling few startup applications will ruin the computer. It results in booting up issues. I had a very bad time disabling my startup apps. This video is pretty much useful . Thumps up
mm.. to give life to Windows machines, just add SSD and more RAM. It will speed things up a lot. Also, when using Windows, i use FolderChanger to increase my productivity overall, just to speed up my workflow as well. You will find it if you google for "folderchanger"
All components are important. It all depends on the task as to which component is the weakest. Its all about balancing the system to your needs. Plus modern motherboard chipsets have sufficient bandwidth on all channels (etc) to cope with any 'standard' setup. Only for multi-GPU or heavily overclocked PC should you need a specialist or expensive motherboard. That said, its always worth getting the most up-to-day chipset, Intel's Z77 or X79 are where its at now.
This guy is great.... All of these tools are perfect for Computer speed. Idk if its you voice or how you explain but it was perfect, I didnt get confused at all Thank you
Hey Matt, I have a question I thought defrag wiped your computer because when my mum used to do it on our home pc she used to ask me if i wanted to move anything to an external HD? She was a computer technician thanks for the video
Actually something is really so cool that ....This vid was uploaded on 2009 and that is quite a long time ago and it's still working...Still active Thx btw :D
If you are an advanced user, you could also skip downloading extra programs like spybot (saving both hard drive space and RAM space), and in the "run" bos type "msconfig" then click on the startup tab. this will give you a list of startup items with check boxes to enable or disable them.
Best analogy for how a computer works imo after 5 years in I.T. tiring to explain things to people, You have your workers (CPU), work space like a desk or table for things your are actively doing (ram) and storage/filling cabinets (hard disk drive/solid state drive). If you dont have enough ram, its like trying to work on a project and you have to constantly put parts of your project back in storage and out of storage because you dont have the space on your desk witch hinders productivity alot
There are 3 ways to speed up PC: 1. Upgrade to big RAM 2. Upgrade to SSD storage 3. Clean up PC regularly For step 3, My choice is WinUtilities (Awards Winning Solution to Clean Up & Speed Up PC). I have used it many years, it works great. You can search WinUtilities in google to find it.
I'm using SSD and I have 12gt memory. This is my "old" gaming laptop and it has started slowing down. Running some applications takes way too much time and if I have several applications open it gets really slow. I'm running Win 7 and the installation is not too old.
You forgot to mention a virus clean up. Heat can also slow your computer. Desktops can use more fans and laptops can use bases that come with fans or just placing them on a flat surface instead of your lap or a bed. You can also install a SSD. Its always good to know a tech. Most of the time a friend that knows more about computers than you does not count as a tech. If all fails. Wipe and reload.
@MarianaSteal1975 it depends on your machine. these days it's common to have 4GB/ram but even if you're on an older machine, sure it'll take a little while to run (especially the first time) but it doesn't take THAT long. Just out of curiosity, how old is your computer?
That was actually really helpful, only problem I wish you would've said that the defragement would takes hours before I followed you step by step and already clicked it lol
To speed up the computer manually takes more time than using the software to do so. Recently I used a computer clean up utility to speed up the PC i.e. Ninja TuneUp utility which had removed all the junk files from the system successfully.
We can help you with this question. please email to matt@mycomputerworks.com and we will respond by email for free or you can call us for a small fee at 1-866-340-3721 and we will do it for you!
Excellent name for your company! I don't know why you get so much criticism on this page - you have given a great presentation. My internet is usually what is slow. I try resetting (chrome), and even refreshing my Windows 10, and the internet is still slow. I have ATT U-verse (the slowest or cheapest speed because nothing else is available where I live for some reason). When I start videos (on any ad or certain web pages) It does take quite a while to load up - and then might only play for a few seconds at a time - I also find this happens when trying to watch TV shows on cbs.com or nbc.com. Do you have any idea what might be going on? I checked my start up and optimized my computer, and I have a lot of RAM (8GB) on a Dell desktop computer. Thanks for your attention! Rob.
Thanks alot, im going to buy a gaming pc instead of the new gaming consoles i have one that i think would be good. Can i tell you the details and you tell me a little about it?
All this means is that a portion of your RAM is set aside for the onboard graphics processor. this occurs when the graphics are integrated to the mainboard. I think it may also be the case for intel i3/5/7 CPU's with integrated graphics. This is perfectly normal.
As long as your not playing any BIG games or running 15 programs at once you should be fine. Games (and other programs such as maya) will require about 4 gigs to play without much lag (I went a little overboard and bought 10gigs.)
If you feel the need to make it faster, try removing some non-essential programs from the startup queue; That is, programs that automatically start when you log on. Otherwise you could invest in an SSD or new processor, or an entirely new computer.
As silly as it sounds - rebooting on pretty much any OS does help performance - this is usually down to software which holds onto memory (not necessarily anything to do with the OS itself). I found Macs and Windows are particularly bad if you don't reboot regularly. Linux tends to cope better due to optimisation and the fact that there are so many flavors, any software has to be written in a sympathetic way!
I never said I couldn't deal with malware, but I like help at least. I use Windows so I can program things easily. You can't say a lot of bad things about Windows XP, it's the most stable and safest Windows OS ever.
Ram is important the more the better. But the simplest and cheapest way is stop downloading apps and software that either you don't know what it is or or you don't need it, some software even if you don't use it some will be running in the background which slows your computer by at least 30%
stefanManiak262011 :) Since Windows 7 the OS it's defragmenting your disc automatically, you do not have to do it yourself any more, also you have to be check that your SSD boot drive it's not checked for defragmentation, only the mechanical drives can be defragmented.
What you do to access this RAM is to click control panel and then system . if you have windows 7 look at the top left there it advanced system settings. most computers is set 750 as the page file. Look at the advanced at the top. Most have automatic page checked at the top left. to change the size you have uncheck it and and click advanced. , most of time of the min 1500 max 2000. Click apply .

I have 2 more tips for you guys: 1: Change the theme of your windows 8/7/vista into windows classic, as shown in the video it saves alot of ram! 2: Clean your ram. By doing so: Open notepad. Type in exectly like this or copy then paste:mystring=(80000000). Go to File option from the drop down menu. Click "Save As" and type in the name of the file "Ram.vsb". Save it to your desktop, after which you can run it. After you run it it wont show anything, thats fine, that means you cleaned your ram and you are ready to play lagless minecraft!
***** Yes it does, even mid minecraft i just go double click my Ram icon, and get like +15 fps boost! try it just click there click it here CLICK IT EVERYWHERE! :D
Start menu>All Programs> Accessories> CMD. Type in ipconfig/flushdns then ipconfig/renew. Also try opening up notepad typing mystring=(80000000) then save it as.vbe and then double click then you are done.
I also have about 400 Gb of memory..... so is that good on memory? I would have more but I've had this computer for like a year now so yeah I've downloaded quiet a few things.....
My current PC is so slow. It's horrible! Everything goes "Not responding". I have 4 GB of RAM. Luckily, I bought a new PC. It's coming Tuesday. 32 GB RAM DDR4. Hell yeah!
I have a laptop that was running slow and I got rid of a lot of PUPs in it and then did a complete restore, but it's still slow, it runs faster than before but still very slow and I'm not sure what the cause of it

And as an old pc my father's files are there which are very important, so I can't reboot it. I have downloaded just one game called Minecraft which mostly relies on GPU. You can always safely empty the temp folder, as this is only a storage for unnecessary files that are created when moving data or loading files. Basically, it's like emptying the cache :)
I don’t think Stones that deleting only the temporary files will speed up the slow computer. In fact, hidden, duplicate files and all junk files deletion are necessary too.
Thank you VERY Much! I have an Acer Aspire 4730Z Laptop, and it runs slow as heck on software and games like Minecraft and such. I hope this will help me on my ways for my gaming career, and hopefully I will get a PC in the future! XD
I had A Lot of desktop shortcuts, grouped them into folders named: Shortcut Image, shortcut game, shortcut exe, shortcut, music, shortcut video, shortcut url...
Actually, the maximum amount of ram most hardcore games will use is 3.5 ish, so 4 GB should be good if you have a high end cpu/video card. and you can buy G skill 8 gigabytes of ram for 40 bucks from newegg. :3
