I don't care for sweet potatoes, but I have a story about them. When my husband was a small child he was a prisoner of war for 3 1/2 years, held by the Japanese who invaded Indonesia. They were starved deliberately, and they made the little kids work in the garden where the Japanese guards grew sweet potatoes and cotton. They would sell the cotton, using slave labor. My husband would sometimes hide a sweet potato under his shirt and bring it to his mom to feed her, him and his brother.
Thank y'all so much for telling us we can get Windmill cookies from Dollar Tree! Steven brought back a good memory and I already got my Windmill cookies too!
Oh, was that Gideon in the ending shot? He is so cute. With sweet potatoes, I think it is all about what texture you enjoy - crispy little squares roasted or air fried, or baked to a nice softness. I think doing that last recipe on a baked one would be yummy. There are a few companies doing sweet potato fries (that are frozen) and some of those are so good, and with ranch dressing to dip they are excellent.
Not sure how long they've been around but my dad was born in 1917 and lived mostly in Texas. He loved them and we had them often when I was growing up in the 60s and 70s, so they must have been around before then. Ah, google tells me 1947.
Another good way to have sweet potatoes is sweet potato fajitas just use wedges of sweet potato that are baked or air fried with oil and taco seasoning on them in place of the meat also taco seasoning on your onion and peppers it’s really good
You two always make me smile! I don't comment often, but I wanted to let you know how much I've loved watching your videos and trying your recipes this last year while I've been battling terminal cancer. It was an especially hard week with treatment and you both brought some joy to me today while I'm recovering today from a chemo treatment early this week. Thank you and I bought the cookbook you recommended also. It looks great! Stay safe; we have some bad weather ahead this weekend. Happy New Year!
Keep smiling and fighting the good fight! I was 6 years old when doctors gave my mom a 5% chance of living 5 years after being diagnosed with three kinds of aggressive cancers. Well, I’m 23 now and starting nursing school next week because of my mom’s inspiring journey…and thank God, my mom will be by my side as she celebrates her 17th year of surviving & thriving! Praying for your miracle too!! ❤🙏
I love , love , love those cookies ! I'm 60 + and I thought they had stopped making them , but since you mentioned that you can find them at the Dollar Tree store I'm going to go see if I can find some . I haven't had them since I was a lot younger . You have opened a lot of doors for sweet potatoes . I now want to try a lot of new ways to eat them . Thank you very much for your video !
That breakfast bowl looks delicious 😋. I'm like you Mandy...no runny eggs. I prefer scrambled eggs all the time. I will definitely make the air fryer sweet potatoes.
Hi Steve and Mandy ! Merry Christmas and a blessed New year to you all! As far as how I like my eggs cooked , I’m with you scrambled well done . I hate runny eggs too . The recipes look delicious! Will have to try all of them. Love sweet potatoes!
I do sweet potatoes like you did in the breakfast bowl. I do a bowl with cottage cheese, sweet potatoes, an over easy egg, red onion and jalapenos. so delicious!
Just came from the grocery store and now have to go back to buy some sweet potatoes :)😋thank you for the recepies they look really good! Also just ordered the Cool book, it looks so beautiful Cant wait to put my hands on it.
Thank you, everyone for your prayers 3 weeks ago when I mentioned some prayer request. I ask y'all to please continue to pray for us. My hubby goes on January 7th for total shoulder replacement surgery and I go to meet with the surgeon the next day on the 8th. We appreciate all of the prayers and continued prayers. Y'all are a blessing to pray for us. Thank you, again. God Bless.
Shredded sweet tater cakes with Asian flavors are DELICIOUS too!! Sooo many add-in options like scallions, shredded cabbage, ground pork or chicken, etc.-you’ll love um!! ❤
I never thought to put sloppy Joe filling over sweet potatoes. Brilliant. This video also comes at a great time because our harvest of sweet potato has just finished curing.
Hey y'all! Hope y'all had a wonderful Christmas and got to spend some time together with family and friends! Yes,please I love sweet taters,I can't wait to try these recipes. I can't believe Steven ate a raw sweet tater,he's face was funny 😄. I agree with you I don't like scrambled eggs wet. ❤Nancy
18:38 The Sweet 🥔 & eggs 🥚 would be awesome if you cooked some turkey sausage with it. Like crumbling..I ❤ breakfast bowls 🥣 so fulfilling 😋 and will last u til lunchtime or a late brunch😊! I'm actually loving these recipes for someone who doesn't like sweet potatoes 😋 u guys are changing my mind..😂
I found the ground jalapeno in the international section at the grocery store. It is amazing and a little goes a long way. So much better than cutting them up lol, Safer too.
I love you guys /gal sooooo much!!!! You've become like family, and you're always so cheerful, down to earth, real, light-hearted, and funny!!! You brighten my days without fail, EVER!!! For all of these reasons and millions more plus the added bonus of yummy foods, I profoundly thank you and appreciate you. ❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤ Ps, today's recipes, all three, sound delicious, omitting the super hot stuff and W sauce (never liked that stuff) .... Lol But that's the beauty of recipes. it's always subject to tweaking for the personal taste buds. I have, in recent years, discovered that I rather love sweet potatoes, and it's always nice to find new ways to prepare them. I often combine sweet potatoes with regular potatoes, onions, and garlic, toss with olive oil, and whatever spices /herbs I fancy at the moment and roast them. Sometimes, i add meat to the roast. Super simple, tasty, and good for you as well. ❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤
omgosh you two are so cute and funny together!!!! I totally enjoyed this video!! you both made me giggle the whole time. Steven sure got some hilarious one liners and his facial expressions to go along with !!! now for the recipes.....I will be trying those for sure. I love sweet taters matter of fact I'll be cutting up some this afternoon. Thank you so much, the best of health to you and all your love ones!!!!!! 🥰😍😍😄
I made a crockpot meal for Christmas. I had sweet potatoes, a few regular ones, and onions. I drizzled olive oil and sprinled garlic powder and seasoning salt. I had turkey tenderloin on top of the veggies on high for a couple of hours. Very tasty.
I had forgotten all about the windmill cookies!! I’ll look for them the next time I’m shopping! I love sweet potatoes. I’m going to try your air fryer recipe!
We use the little manual chopper like yours for the sweet potatoes, so we can get the pieces small enough for us! It’s tough even then, but it does chop it up. My daughter made a salad for us with roasted sweet potatoes, onion, Brussels sprouts, and rice with a mustard vinaigrette and roasted chicken. She topped with pecans, apple slices, and craisins and served on a bed of baby spinach and arugula. Was good! Enjoyed this - we love sweet potatoes! TFS.
Those Windmill cookies bring back so many memories of my nana and cooking with her in her kitchen … She’s the reason i love cooking so much …. Thanks Mrs Mandy and Mr. Comment Tater lol Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all
I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas! I made beef stew and put a couple of regular potatoes and one sweet potato in it. I love the additional flavors
Thanks for sharing these recipes, I will definitely have to try them. I love me some sunny side up eggs, and you burst the yolk into the potatoes and eat it together with toast. Yum!! You should try it Mandy 👍🏾. I love how you and your husband are together y'all are so cute. I also love how your husband helps with the recipes, and how he appreciates your cooking. ❤️ this channel!! Happy Holidays!!
All three recipes look fantastic, I'd like to give them a try. I'm going to send this video to my Sister, I think this is something her family will truly enjoy!! 👍👍
We actually had sweet potatoes with our Christmas dinner (I just cooked them in the air fryer). I tend to prefer them savory, so I'm always happy to have more options.
HUGE sweet potato fan. I just was gifted 40 lbs of semi small ones. I shared with a couple of people cause I can't eat that many. It's just me now. I also enjoy a good bowl meal. Well done.
I loved all these sweet potato options. A favorite dish I don't make often enough is hashbrowns. I shred a white potato and a sweet potato and cook them as fresh hashbrowns. Oh, that is so yummy. I also roasted sweet potato cubes and add them to what we call a burrito bowl. I'm team Mandy when it comes to no runny yokes for fried eggs. I shudder when I see people cutting into a funny egg on a sandwich or in any setting. But my eggs days are over as I am allergic to them. Anyway, love your videos and Happy New Year!!!
Those recipes look absolutely delicious. I'm especially excited to air fry the sweet potatoes. It'll take me time to peel and cube them, but it looks worth it. Thank you for the healthy, delicious recipes. Have a wonderful weekend. FYI.. I made a new cookie recipe. They taste just like Windmill cookies without the nuts since I can't have the nuts.
I do like the lighter side of these meals. I eat a lot of sweet potatoes. I usually cut them up and roast them in the oven. I use some of the same seasonings as you did, but I also add dill. It is really good. Sometimes I cut regular and sweet potatoes and roast them together.
I finally feel justified that I am not the only person to call it a Windmeal cookie! And Mandy, I agree on the eggs; too runny or any kind of liquid and it's a definite NOPE for me! Love you guys! Happy New Year!!!
Hi Steve and Mandy. It's always good to see you guys. I just wanted to tell Steven that back in the day. The windmill cookies use to have sliced almonds on the cookies. One me favorites. But ask your mom about it. I will be trying the recipes.❤🙏
Thank you for the video and the cookbook recommendation. (I bought both even though the code didn't work for me!😬) I will be trying these recipes soon. Thanks, Mandy & Steven!

When you make candied pecans, add a tablespoon of cayenne. Game changer!❤❤❤❤
To the Commentater, my grandparents always had the windmill cookies too. Definitely brings back memories.😂😊 Mandy, you are such a delight to watch.😊
My favorite!
Not a sweet potato fan but a channel fan. You two made them look very appetizing!
Another cookie that brings back memories are Maple Creams. Shaped like maple leaves, they are so pretty and good with tea.
I love watching the two of you. I can tell how much in love the two of you are.
He threw in one last pun at the end "Yes I Yam". You two are the best!
We also love the common tater..you are very lucky to have Steven..I've seen the way he looks at you...a man cooking in the kitchen is an honor too❤❤😊

I grew up with Windmill cookies in the house. My Mom had a sweet tooth! LOL
An easier way to cut sweet potatoes is to cut them in rounds instead of length wise. Less "tater" to cut through.
Mandy..I always meant to get the first cookbook..so now I have them both coming.. thank you... ❤
I love all things sweet potato. Mostly sweet potato souffle. Y'all should try it sometime.
Thank you. I love sweet potatoes! ❤

You can bake sweet potatoes/squash whole. Half way through pull out, skin pulls right off, cuts easier and return it oven to finish.
The windmill cookies bring so many wonderful memories with my grandma. I’m 75 so that was a long time ago! 😆😆
Love you Mandy and Steven!
I ventured out and bought a sweet potato last week! That sweet tater tried to kill me lol! No joke that they are Hard to cut! For some reason when my knife wasn't going through, I thought it would be a good idea to pick it up in the palm of my hand and continue trying to cut it. Don't do it folks! Sliced my hand wide open... then the Urgent Care bandage caused a Massive pressure blister above my thumb 4 days ago.

I'm with you Mandy, all the yolk needs to be cooked. Where did you get that air fryer basket?❤
These look so good! I wondered if the veggie chopper you have would cut through the sweet potatoes? I'm getting one and the are SO hard to cut!!
Thanks for putting the sweet potatoes in a savory light! These all look delicious! Sadly I only buy them for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Would you say the whole cookbook is geared toward healthier eating?
