    The capacitor I’m replacing doesn’t have the window circle like the replacement
    I have two yellow wires and two orange wires
    Can someone tell me how to connect the replacement capacitor ?
    Thanks in advance

      Put two of the same colors on the same connected terminals.
      If you put one of each color on the same terminal, the opener will run backwards.
      BTW, the window does not matter, when it’s dead, you will know ;)

      @@aqualitygaragedoor6366 how do you test them using your meter?

    I've seen some Amazon reviews say that the grease you use will drip in high Temps, have you ever had that happen?

    Appreciate your video. Yours confirmed what I thought was the problem (capacitor). Unfortunately, replaced the capacitor and still have that buzzing/humming sound. Any other thoughts? I am not in Cali, but do you have any suggestions for a good repair man in NM (Albuquerque, specifically) to come and take a look at it. 20 year old unit, and I certainly don't want to have to buy a new one, especially as we are looking to sell this house in the near future. Thanks in advance for any aid.

      @@charlescollins4757 I called Genie and they stated that as I had replaced the capacitor it may be a circuit board issue. My replacement costs about $70.00. Looking for other help before buying the circuit board. It may be the problem, it may not. Maybe it's time to replace the whole unit?! Any thoughts?

      After actually reading it twice, the sad truth is if after trying a capacitor, likely the motor has cycled out at end life.
      Generally what happens is the bell housing that holds the motor shaft wears away so much that the motor servos are now rubbing against the rotators. When that happens nothing can save it, with all of the fragments inside that motor are not worth the trouble at this point.
      Sorry for the bad news, and I apologize that I do not have a contact in New Mexico that could help.
      I do wish you the best.

    I have the same model as in this video. One day I tried opening the garage and all I heard was a hum. Faulty capacitor. Replace it and garage is working again. Only problem is that the capacitors keep burning up every 2 months and I don't know why. Any advice on what could be causing it?

      Actually no, I usually see these fail once in ten years and only once on a brand new opener.

      @@aqualitygaragedoor6366 maybe the connectors are faulty or there's a short?

    Other than being a different model number, my Genie screw drive looks identical to yours. With the exception of light brown staining on the little window of the capacitor, there was no smoke, burning, or leaking. In fact it looks new! But the motor for the most part just hums for a few seconds. Do you think it's probably the capacitor?

    • @aqualitygaragedoor6366
      @aqualitygaragedoor6366  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. You described a capacitor failure perfectly. It will hum, maybe nudge and the area lights come on but no movement. Buy a new capacitor - it should do the job,,, but watch out. I know there is a lot of juice in one of those things!! I have never had a problem before, just be safe,, and, make sure the leads go back on the same terminals or else the motor will operate backwards. (-:

      Well I ordered the capacitor from Genie and it still does the same thing. I removed the assembly to bench test the motor. I'm still trying to figure out the motor circuitry so that I can determine if it's in the circuit board (faulty switching) or the motor windings. The motor/windings look brand new; absolutely NO burning smell.

      Try holding down the activation terminals (constant contact). If that still does nothing then likely the fault may be the transformer.

    • @jakejones5736
      @jakejones5736 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Already tried that. It still does the same thing. Only difference is it stays humming until the contacts are released. Transformer is good. I am an HVAC tech, so I deal with motor stuff all the time.
      Would you happen to have the motor schematic? It would be a big help if I could identify the windings. Then I could bypass the electronics which would determine if it's the windings or the circuit board. Like you, I think this is a great opener. I want to salvage it rather than buy the crappy California battery back up stuff.
      Ha, we both have the same ladder. Probably bought our ladders AND garage door openers at the same time. :)

      What model do you have? I just took down a working CM8600 IC/A this weekend. You in Cali?

    Hi, my door goes down a few inches and then right back up or variations of that. I replaced the capacitor and nothing changed. I've tried force adjustments and other remedies to no avail. Any ideas?

      check the sensors

      Correct, check the lights on the sensors for connection indications. 👍
