that in the uk is called a yamaha diversion, one of the old cheapest commuter bikes you can get, but they run for years lol
I had one of these in March of this year and it was my way of getting back into biking. I fixed mine up and sold it two months later. They are great beginner bikes and whoever gets it will not be disappointed at all!!
1996 Seca II was my first bike. Put 10k on it commuting. I think I bought it around 1999 for $2500, and sold it around 2008 for $2500... glad to see they are the forever $2500 bike! Loved it.

These were a very common bike here in the UK. Its called the XJ600 division here. Yamaha also made a shaft driven 900cc version too. Good machines, I worked on loads of them. They did suffer from carb problems. And they needed to be set up and balanced properly for them to run smoothly. The valve clearances sounded to be out on your one. It was very tappety. Very hard to tell on a video though.

I own a '95 Diversion 600 which I swopped for an air rifle and £100. Starts on the button every time and is a great bike to ride... Really comfy riding position with plenty of power for motorway speeds. Sounds awesome with my Yoshimura exhaust too :)
I had a SECA ll back in 98. I loved it! It was so fun to ride in the city (much lighter than my previous bike) I did notice it liked being ridden hard , over babying it. I wish I had never sold it.
Like it😊 My first bike was a (90' build) xj600 Diverson (so called in gemany) at 30000km in 2010 and drove it for three years and 25000km without any issues. But red is the wrong colour. Look out for the green-blue one, it's a dream in the sunlight...

You guys really do need a Mechanic!!
Id suggest unless they have enough experience in motor cycle trade as a valuer or as a mechanic that can asses the value and do repairs in house, the chances of them loosing your shirt buying at auctions is highly likely.
The fact he took it to a Yamaha Dealer and did not even shop around for quotes on repairs required to it raises a red flag.
I'd suggest that if he's made a million bucks flipping bikes he's doing just fine.
He probably weighed the cost. A motorcycle mechanic can be almost a 100,000 a year after wages, taxes, and benefits, etc. So if his bikes do not need more than a $100,000 worth of repairs annually than it would not be worth hiring a mechanic.
Get a filipino mechanic, we are good in troubleshooting and fixing stuff and whats great is in Philippines most shop owner pay 500pesos per day or 10 usd per day.

This one was in a really good conditions. Also shiny as the sun. Wonderful. The age problems always occur, but you have to be lucky to get one like this. Great video by the way.
My first big bike - had a couple from new in the 90s. Ridden right could outrun a VFR750 (being ridden not so right). In the UK they are called Diversion (rather than Seca) usually shortened to Divvies. Had 5 or 6 of them over the years and will probably buy another as a tinker toy. Really easy simple bikes to work on.
Great video, really brings me back to owning and riding one of these, a 1993 bought new, for 4500 miles back in, you know, 1993. My memories of the bike are that it was nice enough but really tame compared to sportier hardware that followed.
This video brings back great and not so great memories. It was my first bike and the one I learned to ride on. The bad part is I way overpaid for it, $1400 7 years ago but I was new and dumb to the motorcycle world. It needed tires, carbs rebuilt, valves in dire need of adjustment, clutch and cable replaced, new brakes, new battery, fairing was gone, and the tank and muffler was dented pretty good from a fall. I got everything fixed up except for the fairing and the dents and even rejetted the carbs. After that it was an awesome bike to rip around on. It was pretty cool being the only bike like that around in the area though and despite the ugly duckling that it was with the damage people still loved it.
I loved that bike man I shouldn't have sold it☹️
My last dirt bike was a 1978 Yamaha TT500 four stroke single thumper. Wish I still had it. Power house of torque. Both my sons grew up with it, grew into it and we shuffled it from house to house until finally nobody wanted it anymore.

I have a 92 plate ,4 into 1 .Spent 1000 pounds for repairs Clutch,chain,valves carbs done.Mine has a after market carbs on pushes 65 bhp now.Sounds awesome
Great bike brings back memories. Bought a brand new 94 from a dealer as a leftover in 96 for $3400 and rode it for 8 years. Sold it for 3k to the next happy owner. I had 0 issues with it. with a jet kit and exhaust it's was a fun bike.
Seca II was my first pure street bike / inline 4. Perfect starter ride. Ironic at the time my buddy had the GS 750 - as described, the GS was a very comfortable ride.
Man . Classic. I had one of those brand new and my mate had a GSX750 at the time.
I remember as a 13-15 yr old kid not old enough to ride or afford one of those bikes lusting after the Seca II, GS500E, and CB750 Nighthawk when they were new. I only had an old GT185 my dad bought for me on my 15th B-Day from one of his work buddies that pretty much bought any old cheap bike listed in the classifieds and stashed them in several sheds @ his property. Sold the ol 2-smoke Suzuki a few years ago, but have still thought of getting one of those ol 4-cyl UJM type bikes one day. It seems like only about 6 people bought the Seca or the GS there really rare now
From experience an Italian tune up does wonders for a bike sitting idle for a while....
The Seca II was my second bike. Mine was all black and I thought it was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. I couldn't believe the performance it had compared to the 250cc it replaced.
EX500, GS500E, Seca II, ZX600E....I score them all day long for $200-$400 and spend maybe $300-$400 more getting them all sorted. Cheap parts and tires yes, but new is new and most people would go for the same when spending money on a cheap bike. They will typically sell for $1500-$1800 which is totally fair for the age/condition and I make a cool grand doing easy repairs and maintenance. The moral is, you can make decent money by not paying someone else to do fairly simple repair work, and you learn/perfect your skills.
XJ600 6spd! Had a yellow one- smooth power delivery and a lovely exhaust note. Shift her right at 5000 to get an almost perfect power/torque curve. She likes to fly about 90mph all day long. 2500 is a bit much for a bike that was only 5 gs new.

I bought one of these new in 1992... put over 30,000 miles on it before upgrading... Great bike. It wasn't my first bike but it was my first NEW bike...
always check ur petcock and go through ur carbs if its not working well, i wouldnt get a rebuild kit for those the pieces that it came with are high quality and just need to be cleaned, if u ever mess with the airbox/pods make sure u mess with the jetting too so it doesnt run lean or too rich
i had a seca 2 600 as my first bike. paid about $900 for it and had to install 4 new intake boots and thoroughly clean, rebuild and sync the carbs to get it running right. was a good starter bike for sure, but not enough hp.

I did and i fixed that quick, fast and in a hurry.
I went looking at a bike.
I had a friend with me to take a test ride, as i was recovering from a broken collarbone.
He said he had his doubts about the tyres, but otherwise felt fine.
So, i bought the bike and since the seller was coming my way a couple days later, he would drop it off.
A week later i felt well enough to take the bike out for a spin.
From the first corner i took, i had the feeling the tyres were rolling from under the bike.
So, the first trip was to the gas station to check the pressure. Not unlike in the clip; 0.9 in the front and 1.0 in the back.
Punched it up to 2.2 and it was night and day.
From scared of every turn, to no chicken strips in no time flat.

I’ve had the European version (XJ600S Diversion) for 19 years. Bought it new in 1998, and it was totaled by a stupid taxi van driving backwards up my front wheel bending my forks in 2017. Would have been riding it still if this didn’t happen! Love that bike.
The Seca 2 notoriously runs cold for about the first 10 minutes. I have a very clean, black, 92 Seca 2 with less than 10k miles on it in my garage if you’re interested. In Massachusetts.
I ride one of these bikes every day still, they have a few quirks to them but they are a good honest simple bike
I had that exact bike😁I bought off Craigslist for 800 dollars in 2017. Mine was 16k miles and only a faded seat, a need for pads and tires. I ended up putting a full Delcovic exhaust with the 8 inch can (📢 LOUD!!) After the jetting and airbox and filter mod it has 76hp on the Dyno at TT motorsports. Total fork job, some euro shock we ordered (forget the name) , sliders, new paint and seat, oil cooler man I never should have sold it I got absolutely killed on the loss.😒
I have a seca 2 and I've not had any problems the thing even got me home 300 miles on 3 cylinders and after getting it home fixed it and still going good with almost 40 thousand miles on it
My first bike was a 1992 seca in black also forgot to add had a sticky throttle and a few other cosmetic issues but would start every time

I owned one of these a while back. Paid 1600 bucks for it. Loved it. It had so little power that it was quite relaxing to ride.
I love my 92 seca 2 even though it's just sitting g in the backyard waiting for a carburetor rebuild.
I have been watch your video for a while now. Some day i really want to have 600 cc up mototcycle. Doesnt matter what year. As long as the bike is nice and run great. Now i have honda GL 200 for my comuting to work.

I have a 1995 Seca 2 needs carbs gone through, it is the yellow paint with yellow matching rims, looks great! are they now in the classic bike category?
Dealer needs naming 'n' shaming to let a bike go with tyres in that state and after paying $900...shocking.

Yes, I'm with you on this. With as many bikes as they sell you would think they could get a halfway decent mechanic. To rebuild carbs and other minor repairs.
My first thought.
Yep, this is what I was thinking re get a full time bike mechanic in the shop. On one hand biz owners want to save the cost and hassle of hiring a full time mech' and the responsibility which goes with it but this could be a false economy compared to how much a team/shop like SRK would be spending annually on taking bikes to dealer repairs all the time. A first year mech' you can pay around $27-28K and maybe up to $30K a year, give a young person a start, a break and maybe saving the biz a lot of money in the meantime, esp. long term. Not to mention time wasted taking the bikes here, there and back again. Time is money too : )

I started on a yamaha 600! In europe they sell them called "diversion". There is even a 900 version of it.. it is an exxelant bike to start riding on. Light weight. Smooth driving. And cheap to maintain.. Love your chanal..BTW, do you still own the ducati st3? i saw it in the video's. I owned a st2(1998). Had a lot of problems with it. Mostly electrical... Drove like a superbike though...
I bought a '92 XJ600 Seca II new and kept it for 11 years. Cold running is terrible because stock was very lean. They need to go up 2 sizes of pilot jet and raise the needle one notch. They were good basic transportation, all purpose, standard bikes. I cannot imagine one selling for more than $1500. They really were just a basic good affordable bike, and now the youngest ones are 22 years old.
I had one of those Secca II bikes. It did not have a ton of power but it was good for long rides.
Greetings from the UK! We have the identical yamaha's here but under the guise of XJ600 "Diversion" or "Divy" and go pretty cheap for around 900 to 1100 dollars (running) . They also come in 400, 900, and 1300cc varients, the 900 being shaft driven. If you can shift the 600's at 3750 bucks a peice then maybe there's some money to be made by importing a few in from the UK? I don't know what the rules and cost of import involve in the U.S but food for though perhaps.....
I've got one of these bikes here in Australia, it's an XJ600, but essentially the same. I bought it out of a barn almost two years ago as a non running basket case for $900. It's been registered and running for about a year now, but does not run quite right. It's %95, but not quite there. Very comfortable, and handles nice. I definitely would not get $2500 for it here. I doubt I could even give it away. They weren't very popular here. If anyones interested, I've put up some video of me working on it.

Old bikes, check the tank for rust, otherwise your going round in circles re spark, fuel, air etc. Reline it with a two-pack if needed.
And, bad compression will make a small engine not start at all......
Ive actually had two, my first one was stolen by a drug addict in the woods, my current one, I have, and need new tires for. its actually a really nice bike. I love the SecaII. the first (1996) was 1200, and my current one (1992) was 800 dollars, plus a battery, new carb joints, and petcock seals (in total about 950, after tires itl be about 1100), its an amazing bike, and really good price. Ive offroaded them and stuff too, they are amazing
I almost got one of those as my first bike I ended up picking up one a buddy had its a 05 suzuki gs500 shows 500 miles on the clock and I'm in the bike running and riding for a little over 500
I bought the same bike off craigslist for 800 bucks. Paint was perfect just a slight plastic fade also only had 15k miles. I put about another 3500 bucks into it new paint, brakes, R6 front end, shock upgrade, jet kit, filter and Delkavic header with 8 inch can, wider rear wheel, new brakes and tires, custom cut out fairing for clip ons ect..... Such a basic bike and air cooled lol just a bare bones budget sport bikes. Screwed up selling it 😐
Man you need a in house mechanic that specializes in all motorcycles. It would be cheaper in the long run, you would have to slow down on buy ,but give you more time to turn over your stock.

My dad bought a Seca ii for me when i was in High school. Been sitting In garage for 25 years. Less than 1,000 miles.
The Seca II is a great looking bike. I have the OG baby Seca, the Maxim 400.
that motorcyle has a 3 position petcok 1 reserve, 1 normal and the other (PRI) only to start the bike after you run out of fuel. In this position you'll choke the engine if you don't turn the petcok to normal or reserve after the bike starts.
HEY! YOU HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD! I have one, paid $650 for it. Got the carbs rebuilt; the guy at the shop told me the same thing. The Yamaha dealer should've known that as well...and told these guys!

I notice you have only had one Buell Xb on the channel. I'm local and have a low mile Buell Xb9 that you could review, rides totally different then the xb12 you reviewed in the past

Fuel treatment=Seafoam. Ditto on other comments. As a former motorcycle dealership mechanic, it IS time for you to have a corner of your building set up with a lift, a tire changer and a bona-fide mechanic. But, you only work on your own bikes that you are selling. Plus you could offer 30 day warranty on any problems found after the sale. Maybe go 50/50 on parts.
You guys still have this bike? If not, how much did it go for? That was such an amazing example. Honestly, you should have kept it for display. Finding a clean, Seca II that hasn't been dropped by a new rider, or modded by tinkerers, is super hard. Damn I miss those bikes.
These bikes are sold here in the UK as the Yamaha diversion,,in either 600cc or 900cc we never had the 750

I had one of those bikes (here in Portugal they are called Diversion). It has a very good reputation being a very cheap and relyable motorcycle. Saddly i made a similar mistake and bought a even cheapear one...and his engine blow up.
The seca ii was my first street bike when I was 18 years in old in 2000. I bought it for myself for my burfday for $1500
I like the SECA Genesis better! i know, i'm a tool but in all seriousness, you got hosed. Even a carb rebuild kit for that bike is under $50. I hope they replaced every o-ring and seal in those carbs ( please don't tell me it's a single carb) along with all new jets, slides and diaphragms and of course they double checked your float height SMH. Excellent! now that the carb has been %100 rebuilt and benched sync'd, new plugs, fluids and labor, we're at about 350, lets round up tp $400. The fact that they didn't bother to check the air in the tires says everything and it's pretty tough to make sure Venturi is on point without a good test ride checking all throttle input control points ( pilot, main and needle position ) . If I lived near you guys I'd rebuild them all for you for free, I enjoy it. The reward would be to test ride all the fixed bikes just to experience the history. It's a two hour job tops, on that bike at least.
Until now I never noticed how much a Suzuki Bandit 600S looks like a Yamaha Seca II...

I was wondering if you had thought about getting an in house mechanic. Could pay for himself easily I'm sure. And if he wasn't busy on your stuff you all could possibly pick up a side business repairing for others perhaps. But he could actually be a plus to take a look at bikes for you at auctions and such. Just need someone able to work on a variety of brands and get someone with their own tools! Sound like a good idea?
