It's so weird watching you guys attempt something I achieved over 20 years ago and by myself. There's literally a music Easter egg in the hole. On the 3rd ledge down, I believe. Back in the day, I did it five different ways. First was riding the pelican partly down and jumping out. Then hoping and sliding down the edge to reach the bottom. This is the most difficult method but less prep work. The second method was by using both turrets and nades AFTER getting off the pelican. Lots of prep work and a pain if they fall off the edge. Third was with a warthog, nades, and bouncing off areas at the right angle, to cancel out the fall time. This is fun to do, but tricky. Fourth was doing the same with a ghost. More fun and control due to the ghost's hovering and ability to climb nearly 90° slops. Fifth is by far the easiest but requires the most prep time. The plus side is you get checkpoints incase you screw up. Thus cutting most prep for repeats. And that is by using a banshee. Getting the vehicle through some doors is tricky. For one room especially. And you must angle just right when going up the lift, to prevent the game spitting you out of it. But once done, the rest is a absolute breeze to complete.
You’re not wrong I had the same thing when I was a kid, and I went back on MCC it turns out it still exists, it’s on one of the ledges I think the reason it plays is because the trigger for the Seige of Madrigal song, maybe overlapping at that part of the room
@biffyeah4255 It's a legit easter egg. Marty confirmed it back in the day. It also play at the top of one of the entrance to the control room. But you need a banshee to get to it. Did you ever try getting to the bottom of the Silent Catagrapher? It's tricky but can be done with a warthog. You can also get across the casim at the top of the bridge (cutscene local). Nothing there though. The bottom of the drop has a weird shape in floor. You can barely see it in the OG game, while down there.

But from an hour of my older brother and I just messing around in that area it actually happened. Never been able to do it again since haha
Actually those grunts at the bottom of the floor are actually the grunts from the beginning cutscene of the mission, they are teleported there to instant death because they need somewhere to go after the cutscene finishes
I will say (without watching the video)... This is a very easy trick that I've done with a friend: take the pelican down all the way and try to stay alive. Throw a frag before exiting the pelican and you'll stay in the seat. At the bottom, there's like 2 dead grunts, probably from the cutscene
I remember on the base game on original Xbox you can jump back into the drop ship super fast and ride it down to the bottom. It’s was almost 20 years ago so maybe I’m remembering wrong but pretty sure did it that way.
The part about Bungie controlling Pelicans is similar to the old Rocket League rumor that the bots in game were actually overseas players paid to be on there.
Could’ve set the difficulty to heroic/legendary, done the banshee grab trick from the speed run after the first room, brought it back, and flew down. Riding/flipping the pelican was definitely a neat way down though!
The "bungie flew pelicans" thing is kinda true. When Bungie built Halo 1, the scripting engine required someone to control everything. All the AI running around in the game, aside from a few animations, like Chief catching the dead marine that falls through the doorway in the flood room or Keyes gesturing in the opening cutscene. So, all the marines running about in cutscenes or scripted movements were made by a Bungie employee (likely Joe Staten) controlling them. The pelicans in-game were absolutely piloted by him, and he more likely than not piloted this pelican. Maybe that's just been altered through playground whisperings and interpretations, but it's kiinda true.
A lot of these areas in halo really are confusing from a development standpoint. In general your hardware resources are your biggest constraint. So the golden rule to game development is. If the player will never see it or never interact with it. Don't waste resources putting it in the game. But halo flipped the bird to that rule apparently because there are all kinds of areas and landscapes and rooms that you can't see or access if you play the game normally. But they used the resources to put them in there and then used barriers to keep you from exploring them. Any other developers just wouldn't put them in there.
Huh... I had always assumed "Invisible wall" shenanigans was why you died jumping in the hole, not a fall timer. That's why I stopped attempting. (Original Xbox Halo CE, so about 20 years ago)
You can also put the turret near the edge and whack it off 😉 You can get the turret to the first level down, though you usually fall out. Or bring a banshee

Your brother excelled in this one!
When I was a kid, I legit thought NPCs were controlled by people at the studios 😂
Funnily enough I got into this pit last week, Somehow managed to get into the pelican and ride my way down there lol.
Day 2 of asking "Will you ever do a Halo Infinite video?"
Probably not
A lot of these areas in halo really are confusing from a development standpoint.
I’m a simple man. Shilt show uploads . I like.
YT recommendations are good at times. Made me install the game lol
Huh... I had always assumed "Invisible wall" shenanigans was why you died jumping in the hole, not a fall timer. That's why I stopped attempting. (Original Xbox Halo CE, so about 20 years ago)
You can also put the turret near the edge and whack it off 😉
You can get the turret to the first level down, though you usually fall out. Or bring a banshee
Ignore the debbie downer. You and your brother are a cool duo
Excited for more my guy.
More CE videos!
This is the Eggmaster right here.
Every Sunday, whether I like it or not, I'm having eggs.
Sunday Shilt Show! Let's go! Let's give it a shot!! 🎉
Now i want to see you get back up. That would be interesting
