    The song hits different when you understand all the references! Some references you might’ve missed:
    -yeppi yeppi was a reference to betty boop
    -minnie’s pink gown, miyeon in a movie conference, soyeon dress in rap scene, yuqi white dress, shuhua green dress are all marilyn monroe references
    -soyeon’s cone bra is referencing to madonna’s iconic outfit
    -the book soyeon was holding was “Leaves of Green” which Marilyn also read
    -the chorus outfits and stage referencing to Moulin Rouge
    -the chorus instrumental is sampled from “Habanera” from Bizet’s opera “Carmen”
    -and yes the Banksy reference “Girl with Balloon”, the shredded drawing was symbolic and can be related to objectification of women in the MV

    7:40 Brief Korean lesson here: '예ㅃ- [yepp~]' is a Korean etymon (word root) meaning 'pretty'. It alone cannot constitute a word, but by adding appropriate suffices we can derive many useful words like '예쁘다 [yeppeuda] (pretty)', '예쁨 [yeppeum] (prettiness)', '예쁜이 [yeppeuni] (pretty person)' and etc. Minnie introduces her name as '예삐예삐 [Yeppi Yeppi]', which actually isn't a word but many Koreans can instantly guess its meaning as 'Pretty girl' or 'Cutie'.
    +Some people who seek Soyeon's intention behind this choice of word say that Yeppi Yeppi is shoutout to Aespa's song, and others say that it's an homage to Betty Boop's Yippie-Yip.

      Betty Boop was indeed in her PowerPoint along marilyn when she showed us in tomboy era what would come next, so I don't think it's anything atbout aespa, just their fans that wanna bring something. they're not getting spired only by monroe as you can see the banksy (?) references.

    I legit thought Shuhua was Yuqi for a second when she started singing during the first chorus until she came onscreen and it became clear whose voice that was. Holy balls, Shuhua sounds amazing now, and she has SO MANY LINES. She also looks insane, as if I even need to mention that. This is her era, without question.

  • @shori-ssi

    Essentially, girls talk about how women are often only seen through their looks and appearance in media, much like Marilyn who was this beautiful, most wanted woman in the world but men didn't like when she spoke her mind about anything and just wanted her for her flawless beauty, more like some luxury item than a real human. In Minnie's first verse she sings "Slightly dumb the way I talk, but I've got sexy, sexy figure", which shows that people aren’t really intersted in her personality or intelligence as long as she's pretty.
    The whole concept of "nudity" here is really smartly put out. Girls are "nude" in the emotional level, when they shows their real selves and not just their celebrity personas. Soyeon in her rap calls out all of the creeps that came to the MV and expected real nudity. She also points out how "nudity" in our society is only viewed as sexual or vulgar and that's why she want us to think "outside the box".
    Hope that this messy explenation helped in any way! Also I'm sorry if there are any mistakes, English is my second language 😅

    for "yeppi yeppi" there's actualy alot referrences someone said who is a korean that "yeppi" means "bimbo" or "yeppi" have to do with "pretty" in. korean slang words but "yeppi yeppi" is also a shoutout to betty boop(like marilyn a cartoon chara who looks sexually attractive but a silly woman) since soyeon is imitating her in how she sings on that intro and
    "lorerei" is a beautiful german maiden who threw herself in rhine river because of a faithless lover and was transformed to a siren who lured fishermen to destruction
    and I also think that cartoon character is jessica rabbit since she's also a sex symbol like marilyn

    two songs with deep feminist messages from an idol gg is just so dope to see. the discussion of the objectification and sexualization of women. Women as a product to be consumed in the way that makes other people comfortable either in the most sexual way or in a purity culture mindset as well. Not wanting to hear our ideas, only our looks. So much to unpack here and I love it. Banksy shredding his art RIGHT as it sold as a performative part of the message about art being bought and sold and consumed and then after it shred the value shot up even more... lots of messaging here and I think G-idle was VERY intentional with it.

    Only people who kept up listening ()-IDLE's former albums can fully enjoy the pleasant surprise at the Shuhua's line in Nxde..

  • @insertnamehere5739
    @insertnamehere5739 ปีที่แล้ว +29

    there's so much to unpack holy shit, but i can tell this is gonna be one hell of an iconic era already!
    shuhua looks so confident this comeback and i'm so happy! her singing and stage presence stood out so much to me in the mv and album and you can visibly see the effects of the hard work she put in to improving 🥺
    like what others in the comments are saying, my overall take on the concept is that it is commentary about the sexualization/objectification of woman in the entertainment industry. especially in the kpop world where the industry values beauty as a top priority (evidenced by the audience vote picking visuals over skill on an idol survival show soyeon mentored on), it feels very fitting to reference marilyn monroe, whose intellect and individuality was undermined as she began being mostly viewed as the "pretty blonde sex symbol". she also wasn't a natural blonde, so gidle dying their hair just furthers the symbolism.
    banksy's reference was also a super pleasant surprise! besides the drawing itself in the mv representing a nude figure, the shredding (literally) strips the woman's body apart, baring the true "nude" plainly in front of an audience as a spectacle. if banksy's intention was to criticize those who only look for one specific idea in an image and determine value through that, then it's a perfect message for this comeback's concept. the post-shred painting also doubled in value, fun fact, which maybe can foreshadow something for gidle's future onward 👀?
    i also find it hilarious that "she can't rap" and "music for dumb people" are within that sea of comments in that one scene, as i've definitely seen haters insulting gidle like that exactly. the inclusion of those messages feels very much like a meta callout, especially since we've been mostly seeing vintage/burlesque aesthetics in the mv up until that point. maybe i'm just reaching too far with this thought, but it feels like it's immortalizing and mocking the stupidity of the trolls who think they can say whatever disgusting thing they wanna say when hiding behind an electronic screen. soyeon also doesn't physically strip fully, but the viewers are still shown the full "nude", or truth, about the reality of society that in the specific scene. again, like someone else stated, soyeon and gidle are baring themselves emotionally naked, stripping themselves of their celebrity personas to bluntly express their message to the audience (even calling them out as perverts for thinking of/hoping for actual nudeness).
    also, i was kind of thinking the same thing as you at 11:38, though going both ways as well. conservatives would argue that showing skin inappropriate and shameful, while others, as you can see in the live chat, want even more of it. like what you talked about around 13:25, the double standards and hypocrisy are blatantly shown.
    tbh i don't think nxde is my fave gidle title track song-wise, but the artistic quality of it all is astounding. the album also reflects the dark sides of celebrity life, going from self-deprecating desolation to the full acceptance of the self (if you listen to it in reverse order, as gidle recommended). it's overall such a bold and possibly controversial concept, but it's done so stylishly and candidly that it just works perfectly.
    everything being said, though, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE REACTION! i've always love hearing your thoughts and interpretations! i also apologize for the lengthiness of this comment. i've kind of been itching to analyze this song all day lol, though i don't even know if anything above made sense at all 😅
    (also, by the way, sorry if this is annoying, as i hate to be "that" person, but may i ask if you're planning on checking out n.flying's comeback from today by any chance? it's their last one before the '94s have to enlist 🥲)

    I appreciate that you are moving on, understandable. but I believe that gidle are still including Soojin in the video. To me, it feels like idle members are not leaving Soojin behind.
    She's was and will always be (G)I-DLE's Main Dancer. They even acknowledge in their poster that none of them holds the dance position (even if Soyeon & Yuqi are great dancers) still, they don't want to leave Soojin behind.

    • @coolandtrending
      @coolandtrending ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Of course. If the girls don't feel a need to move on, why should we? It's no secret that the girls love Soojin very deeply. Also, the members happily pointed out Soojin signs and shirts several times from audiences on the world tour, Minnie's friend gave them six gifts (one for each member) in their tour in Bangkok, referenced Soojin many time on the I Never Die album, let's also not forget that the members have creative control with the m/v's. so the mole near the eye? Soojin. Marilyn's mole was lower on her face towards her lip. Everything in (G)I-DLE's m/v's are intentional since they have creative control. Nothing is a mistake. So what's with the cherry on Yuqi's shirt at the 2:44 mark of the video? Just a coincidence? Nope. The outfits are chosen for the m/v carefully. At 2:30, the hair styles in the cartoon change, all past hair styles of Soojin's. Also remember that Marilyn Monroe was Soojin's role model. Does anyone think it's just a coincidence that the group would make a concept of Marilyn Monroe and it's also Soojin's idol just by happenstance? Of course not. It's not a crime not to move on from Soojin, especially if the members still love her and reference her.

      The song is about how people view the word ‘Nude’-smt inappropriate or lewd, when ‘Nude’ should be viewed as “one’s true self” with no mask of act or anything.
