I never checked out what Maggie Smith looked like in her early acting career, but watching her in the Potter series and Downton Abbey it was easy to tell that once, she was a incredibly beautiful young woman, as there was still beauty there as an elderly woman. I’m so glad she didn’t do facial modification. A lot of class, and character.
Agreed. My favourite video is when she tries to teach Carol how to speak cockney with a song. A brilliant duet! She is such a classy witty, classy lady.
The Carol Burnett Show is one of the funniest shows ever!!! Carol, Vicki, Lyle, Harvey, Tim & various guests were so entertaining!!! Thanks for sharing this episode!!! 👍👍🙂
I really miss this kind of TV! A variety show with skits, comedy, song and dance and music...and Ms Burnett’s goodbye song with the little ear tug at the end. Its so sad that this kind of entertainment gone. I remember splitting my side laughing and not one “F” bomb was ever dropped. Imagine that! It brings back so many comforting memories as a kid.
The Red Skelton Show and The Carol Burnett Show were two of the funniest shows I remember growing up. Too bad kids don’t have these kind of comedic experience now.
Carol is magic. And has a brilliant cast of comedy and dances. We dont have the tv we used to have. We laughed and spent time laughing with the whole family.
Carol Burnette has always been my favorite comedian! Along with Tim Conway & Harvey Korman! This kind of entertainment is what our world truly needs! Laughing is the best medicine and frankly we don't have enough of it today! IMO I miss those days!!
@@Starrmiller you are so welcome, darlin! And I love the episodes of Mama's Family as well! Vicki as Mama is absolute genius! Have you seen the Siamese Elephant skit yet? Mama takes a very mischievous Tim Conway to the floor when he is ab-libbing and crackin the rest of the cast up big time!!! It's one of the funniest skits ever next to Went With The Wind skit!!! Gotta love all these shows!!! They just don't make em like they used to anymore!!! God bless you, hun!!!
@@michaellarenee4856 Oh your so kind! I'm sure I've seen it but I don't recall it at this moment! May the Lord Bless you & yours in Jesus Name 🙏 Amen 🙏 & Amen 🙏
Maggie and Carol are magical. And Vicki Lawrence and Carol are the genesis of my redhead obsession.... natural beauty mixed with clean comedy... ahhh.. what it meant to be born in the late 70's and watching reruns in the early 80's
I remember Maggie Smith before Harry Potter. She's in a great Agatha Christie Movie "Evil Under The Sun" with another great Dame Diana Rigg and Peter Ustinov as the great Hercule Poirot. Of course she started in "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie". Dame Maggie Smith did exist before Downton Abbey, have never watched an episode because it reminded me of older series called Upstairs, Downstairs and The Forsythe Saga. She was absolutely brilliant in Harry Potter I have to say. I was absolutely tickled pink when I saw her. She's always been a favorite of mine. I love the fact that the city of London was bathed in Purple Lights in honor of her passing. RIP Lovely Lady!!! ❤❤❤
I remember seeing carols home which was located on a.commerce st right before you get to zarzamora st in San Antonio Texas. This house is where she grew up in when she was in grade school. Then I heard they had moved it but don't know where to. The house had a large porch . Bless Carol Burnett and God has blessed us by creating Carol .
@@susantunbridge4612 Oh, okay. I guess one cannot go beyond perfection; not possible. I stand corrected. But, did you ever see her in that film? Her performance was so hilariously droll.
When celebrities still oozed actual TALENT. These ladies had such style and excelled at performing, they didn't get famous from being cheap slags with social media accounts and criminal boyfriends.
This just made me realise how much Susan Sarandon reminds me of Maggie Smith here. She would have played her well in a biopic or something it's almost uncanny.
The days where an hour program had less than 10 minutes of commercials. Now it has about 20. Ernie Anderson replaced Lyle Waggoner as the announcer after he left to do WONDER WOMAN for ABC & Warner Bros Television.
I wish they produce some kind of variety show like this or Julie Andrew’s, or dean martin etc. some Songs some skits. Not political. Just observations of human nature.
She started her career in America doing revues on Broadway, she was so young Julie Andrews rescued her from weeping on an elevator by taking her for tea.
27th September 2024 ... Maggie Smith, another great performer has passed away today... 😢 😭
Passed
Thanks for making this episode available to remember Maggie Smith in her younger years, may she rest in peace.
Have a great day!
Rest most peacefully Dame Maggie. You will always be remembered. Thank you.
Rest in peace dear Maggie⚘
Love you Maggie 💜❤️💜 Rest soundly

Maggie was as stunning a young lady as she is now a stunning mature lady😍
Duh!
Wait til you see her in sister act 1 & 2 ❤❤
Funny how older women are written off as "they used to be" while older men age gracefully . Why? People are shallow.
Rest peacefully and beautifully Dame Maggie Smith ❤️
Dame Maggie Smith will always be remembered
miss you already Dame Maggie Smith. but so glad to have tnese to watch. giving me again something to do on a Friday night 🙂
I grew up watching these shows (and Sonny & Cher), and the humor never ages! Such pure talent.

That song and dance number with Maggie and Carol is gold ❤
Opening song w Maggie is embarrassment. Poor Maggie.
Prof McGonagall!!!! Wow ❤
The Red Skelton Show and The Carol Burnett Show were two of the funniest shows I remember growing up. Too bad kids don’t have these kind of comedic experience now.
CBS has generations of new fans here, don't know about Red.
Bless you Dame Maggie..and Thank You, Carol for talking about saving the Environment, before it was fashionable❤ ❤❤❤❤❤❤
I love how they wouldn't always just skim past mistakes when they happened but would ham it up and go along with it. So brilliant. 27:15
This episode originally aired in November of 1974 😊😊
RIP Dame Maggie ❤

I don’t know much about Maggie Smith, but I do know I loved her in Hook! My kids loved the movie and I did too! 😊
She was Professor McGonagall in the Harry Potter movies.
She was also in Downton Abbey and Marigold Hotel.
i loved watching that show
Professor McGonagall had quite a career before Hogwarts.

What a pair of beautiful and wanderfull actresses.
I really love both!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤.
They left us gai joy laughs and .....happiness.
Never knew she was on the show. I learned of Maggie in Sister Act. She was an amazing woman.
Maggie Smith was beyond comedic perfection in 'Murder By Death' , from 1976.
Hot millions is brilliant too.
That was a wonderful movie with a lot of great actors!
beyond?

As soon as Maggie Smith starts singing, the Essex girl really shows herself. What was that “peeenatts?” Cawe blimey gavnah!
The goldilocks interrogation 😅 in that new York accent ....brilliant

They were too good together!
Always so funny and beautiful. 😊
So the Simba lion name was already used in the 70s and Carol Burnett beat Disney to the punch err claw 😊
Simba is Swahili for “Lion”
I love you have a great new year.Carol
Absolutely Fantastic
💜 RIP Dame Maggie Smith
I watched season 1 to the end when new 👍👏😊❤️
And then Simba walks around the house and climbs back in the window mwahahahah
The husband leaves 😂😂😂
❤loved the Burnett Show.
I remember that episode from when it first aired.
43:40 At this exact second, Carol's shadow resembles Whistler's Mother, amazing!
When celebrities still oozed actual TALENT.

Dowager Countess/Mother Superior/Professor McGonagall!
What a ferocious lion.
Why can he read, but not talk? He can fix his own food though.
Cuddle up and be my little clinging vine….😂
She was!beautiful in spirit. Also she had a great body. I like the positive living g vi es I get from her show.
Carol Burnett IS Beautiful in spirit and has a great body. She just celebrated her 90th birthday and had a special on.
She really looked great in her wardrobe.
I love that she says "comedienne.".
People want to say "female comedian" now, and it sounds ridiculous.
Funny!
What kind of heartless ppl throw out their poor lion. That they had since he was a baby. I could never do it. I’d love him forever
The husband needed to go 😂😂
So funny
Safari Carol 🦁mreeoooow 🥰💜
It’s Maggie from Harry Potter and Downton Abbey!
And Plaza Suite and Murder by Death and Othello and The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie and...
Oh yea, she was in Downtown Abbey! I think she got better with age!
She was great in Hot Millions.
She also played Wendy Angela darling in the movie “hook” with robin williams
This just made me realise how much Susan Sarandon reminds me of Maggie Smith here. She would have played her well in a biopic or something it's almost uncanny.
This lion won‘t make it, I‘m afraid. The costume was so cute.
They should have kicked out the husband ❤
Anyone have the sketch where a character played by Maggie Smith is at a boat launching?

And just for the uninitiated: viva Bob Mackie.
They look like twin sisters
Maggie Smith ---> Prof. McGonagall in the Harry Potter movies 🧙♀️
two cultures complimenting each other... damn, that's old school
Simba? Is that the same name of main character in the Lion King?
That‘s right.
At 25:00 the story perfectly describes what its like to turn 13.

Wait - Simba - Is Disney's The Lion King of the 90s was a remake or something from the 70s... How old is the story?
The movie Born Free. Check it out

The double hat?

The Lion skit would have been funnier if the husband was put out instead. ❤❤😂😂
The great talents of Dame Maggie are wasted in cliche routines. Yuk.
