Suprised they don't mention why it's so rare. Honus was against tobacco companies marketing to kids who ended up collecting these cards. He ordered them to stop producing them early on.
It was sold with tobacco gum. Woupd of probably cost a few dollars in today's money. Baseball was still an emerging sports in the turn of the 20th century (1900) so there wouldn't be all this demand for collecting memorabilia. Very few probably even knew it existed as Honus demanded the company to stop producing the card due to his belief tobacco companies shouldn't be marketing to kids. This card has become legendary as early baseball memorabilia from this time is very rare and this item is at the top of rarity. There is also a major demand for it as well
Damn this guy is pretty badass, he saw through society and tobacco companies lies and tried to help prevent children from smoking by refusing to keep printing cards by that company
Yeah Baseball wasn't as marketable as it is today. I think it too till after WW2 for the sport to become as massive as it is today which would be 50 yrs after his time

what the hell does segregation have to do with this story? on that fact jackie robinson wasn't the first black player in MLB, there was a black player in the 1890's

the fact that the “all white major” was a league
