I have been watching these going most recent, back. I watch late at night, when everyone is asleep, and I have time to knit and relax. Thank you for all of your kindness. Your voice and cadence is so soothing and warm. You are appreciated. ❤

Thank you for inviting me at your table. Because of my postcovid syndrome there are days that I cannot do more than some knitting. And because of your At the table, I do not feel I'm in a quite house but somewhere nice ❤😊

I had an absolutely wonderful time watching this video after a stressful day at work. I carved a wood spoon and my wife worked on a knit sweater while our dogs and cat curled up around us. Thank you for the calming, positive vibes, and, most of all, for being you!

Really enjoyed working on a cable cloche hat while at the table today. My 8 year old grand daughter even paused in her talking and said, "That looks complicated!" Then she went right back to talking about whatever 3rd graders find important. I was touched she noticed. I love cables. And they can be complicated. 😍

I was injured yesterday and have been lying flat on my back for 2 days. I think this blog has helped to heal me. While they were talking I think the calmnwas relaxing. The pain has made me tense but not anymore. I'm looking forward to making the twisted mittens Once I'm up on my feet again. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I don't feel that the project is finished before the ends are woven in, so I do it right away. sometimes I actually start to weave in some of the ends in before I am finished. I used to have a Weaving in ends Sunday, but then it started to mount up.
I'm working on a bathroom towel from a danish knitting book. It has a beautiful diamond pattern on it. It's going to be the wrapper for a christmas gift for my parents, I'm knitting all my love into every stich.
Thank you for another round of total calmness

Thank you so much - your word made me a little teary, but I needed them. In response to your question about ends - I habitually find them on whatever finished object I'm wearing even when I think I've sewn them in!

I'm actually using an antique chamber pot as a yarn bowl. It was under the bed in the room I slept in at my grandmother's house. Ironically, even though they got indoor plumbing and electricity installed in the late 1940s, the chamber pots were never discarded. The one I have is made from heavy ceramic, so it doesn't slide around. It's the perfect yarn bowl. Reuse and repurpose. 👍

I didn’t knit today while watching/listening to you but I did prepare a LOT of yarn to be knit. I wound 4 skeins of Hawthorne Fingering in Deer Island Tonal as well as 1 full skein and 25 minis from Moonglow Yarn Co. (2023 Yarn Advent). The Hawthorne yarn is planned for the Philippe Classic Scarf by Steve Rousseau that will be given as a gift to a friend for Christmas. The 2023 Yarn Advent is going to be a River City Wrap by Allison LoCiero AND a Lamina Wrap by Ambah O’Brien. I tend to feel guilty when I take time for myself and you reminded me that it’s absolutely OK and necessary to take the time to be kind to ourselves. Thank you for that. ❤ And thank you for being a friend to spend time with crafting and doing the things that make our hearts happy. P.S. I’m adding those mittens you were working on to my to-do list! Weaving in ends in therapeutic for me. I don’t mind that but of making at all.

Hi Christopher..I’m making a beret smaller. It has four panels and I’m only going to make three. For me, it’s also best to use a life line. I’ve changed the colour, from dark to lighter as it is my first lace work. I love doing the new stitches and I am enjoying listening to your sit with me. I look up and you are working away, thank you for spending time with me.

Hello, I have saved you for starting a quilt out of my sisters jeans. She passed away recently and I wanted something of hers close by and to snuggle when I think of her. Lovely to craft with you. (Ps. The jeans are stretch and causing me trouble, I like your reminder that it’s ok to unpick as many times as needs be). Take care xx

Hi Christopher and everyone else at the table and greetings from Germany. So great to enjoy crafting time with you again and also read what y'all are up to in regard to crafting, cooking and what else you have to share. As for me, I was knitting on my very first stranded colorwork project today during our time together. It's the Sockcardigan by Dutch designer Eef and it's the first pattern she ever released. I chose a bunch of warm autumn leaf colors for my version. I'm roughly halfway through and can already say that this project broke the ice between myself and colorwork which I always thought was too difficult for me. Up until now was much easier than I thought so I want to encourage everyone to not shy away from new challenges. Christopher, I love your mittens, they look amazing! See you next time when you again invite us to join you at the table in your lovely place.

Thanks for keeping me company while I seamed the collar to the Douglas Cardi. I’ve always said that I hate sewing, but now that I have done it, it turns out is not as horrible as I expected 😊
I try to weave in my ends while knitting. For example for this striped cardigan, I would take some time to weave in some ends every now and then. Otherwise I get overwhelmed and it will take me forever to be able to wear my new garment.
Thanks Christopher inviting us to your table.

Living in the moment makes every activity enjoyable, just doing what’s called for without overlaid stories, is so simple, no drama. Sewing in ends, tinking, swatching, purl stitches…whatever, I just don’t get why so many people work themselves up over it. I feel it’s all knitting, using my hands on yarn and colors I love. What a joyful, soothing privilege it is to pass time this way. And with kind people like you too, Christopher. I agree with the attitude that “everyone is doing their best” too. It helps with empathy, acceptance and helpfulness. 🎉

  • @JenileeSchwartz

I also don’t mind weaving in ends. I use the duplicate stitch method and just follow the path of the stitches. I find I have to tell myself “that’s probably far enough you can cut your yarn now.” I weave in some ends as I go and let some linger till the end depending on the project. Thank you for a peaceful knitting session and chat. I’m working on the second sock for my Halloween pair this year.

Thank you for the lovely hour of calm and the nuggets of mindfulness sprinkled in. ❤
While waiting for my sourdough bread to proof, I am knitting an all-over lace pullover in the most scrumptious wool made from recycled mill leftovers in a tonal, heathered berry pink. This is my first time doing this much lace, and your words helped me be more gentle to myself about missed yarn overs - just do a lifted increase and carry on!
All your talk of buttons is inspiring me to sew the buttons onto a very autumnal taupe skirt I finished sewing weeks ago! Ive been agonizing over which color buttons to use, but I can always change my mind about later and redo them. I just might do that tonight - or at least get a few buttonholes sewn.

I'm working on an Icelandic sweater for my partner. We travelled from Toronto to Stonnington, CT this past weekend for a kayaking symposium with people from around the world (even someone from Chicago!!!). It felt pretty amazing to be knitting an Icelandic sweater with Icelandic wool while we were visiting the Atlantic Ocean, with paddlers from lots of countries that share the coast with the Atlantic Ocean.

When I make dish cloths, I don't weave in until I get ready to give or use. So, they might sit in the basket close to a year. Your "yarn bowl" is perfect and meaningful. I am finishing gift socks. Just vanilla. A musician friend is learning pottery and was giving away her imperfect mugs. I say a friend, we never met til two weeks ago and then, only briefly and I've had the mug a month or so. So, I made her some socks. The mug looks perfectly lovely to me

Yes, it's my stress reliever however I can still enjoy it when things are calm.
Weaving in ends.....if you like it, you may also like hand sewing! Bags, and other accessories lend themselves well to hand stitching. I also enjoy a little embroidery on the side.

Such a lovely way to spend an evening. It's been a long hard month with work stress, sick husband, and the unexpected passing of one of our cats. I so enjoyed just working on a test knit and relaxing with you.
I can't consider a project complete until the ends are woven in! Although sometimes I do need to let it marinate a little between finishing the knitting and actually finishing the piece.
And as far as holiday cooking, I'm all about the cranberries this time of year. I started making cranberry sauce from scratch about 10 years ago and it's my favorite thing. And a few years back I found a cranberry crumb pie (from Smitten Kitchen) that is to DIE for and I will eat the whole thing myself if not restrained. Best warm with a big dollop of whipped cream.

Thank you for yet another lovely episode. The backdrop gave an incredibly lovely atmosphere.
I love your mittens. I keep looking at them, thinking I really need to make myself a pair. Could really have used them at the trip to the rescue zoo yesterday - petting and feeding all these adorable animals (most of them former pets) was truly cold on the hands in 8 degrees Celsius!
Today, I’m working on my second Carol bralette (Elizabeth Margaret pattern). It’s such a cozy knit.
On the side, I’m working on my first all-over lace sweater, which is both very exciting and slightly terrifying.
Regarding baking: I’m planning to make carot cake with walnuts and spices, topped with lemon cream cheese icing. Been craving it for weeks now.
Your chai cake, apple cake etc. all sound absolutely divine. I need to give them a go.
Hope you are having a lovely day. 💙

I love coming back to these videos when I have a particularly frustrating or finicky project. Today was a thickly cabled headband that's pretty hard on my hands, so I've been putting it off for the last few weeks, but I'm determined to finish it and clear my conscience about it lol. I got quite a bit done today!
Also, I am team weaving in ends. I find it very soothing and I (almost) always do it as soon as I'm finished with a project.

❤❤❤ lovely crafting with you. As for weaving in ends, I prefer to weave in as I go. By the time I cast off the last stitch, ideally the ends are all ready in place and the blocking process locks it all in even more. I love that flow, the way it all comes together.

I got my chores done, made a cup of tea, made a warm fire, my knitting and a little piece of dark chocolate to sit and spend a lovely hour with you. I am on the last sleeve of the Trinigan Cardigan by Andrea Mowry. It is an oversized cardigan using a mosaic stitch. It will be so cozy and warm when finished. Your autumn decorations are so pretty and festive. Thank you for inviting everyone to your table today.

I am working on a pair of mittens for my youngest son. At his request - so mama will knit them 😍 I am also loyal to my mitten pattern -Miks Mountain Mittens - written by the owner of my LYS that has since closed . I am happy to have the pattern to remember my happy knit times there.
I also bake according to the season - so much so that my kids see a yellow leaf and they ask for pumpkin chocolate chip muffins 😍 which makes my mama heart happy.
I couldn’t figure out why I was behind on your videos- I was on Vacation to London and Edinburgh over Canadian thanksgiving!! We had an epic time - loved all the woollies and wool to purchase …i May have had to purchase a suitcase to bring home my loot 😍 both cities have great yarn stores.
Thanks for a great space to enjoy & share.

Hi from Australia. I so love these episodes of yours, so peaceful, blissful and engaging. I'm sitting here, listening to your talk and the peaceful music, knitting the Latte Coat for my 2 yr old grandson for our next winter. It doesn't get cold here till mid May. We don't have Autumn food traditions here other than the annual 'chocfest' aka Easter, which is our Autumn, so it's all things chocolate with hot cross buns. Autumn here, tends to be a lot of camping, days are still warm yet with a freshness and the glorious colour changes of the trees & native flora. Plenty of people go hiking in Autumn too.

Thank you! This is what I needed for the end of this week. I’m thinking I need to make a pair of those mittens for winter.
I’m working on the pattern Calico by Dawn Barker, and learning about assigned pooling. I’m using her yarn, color way Sockeye. I got it last winter from Indie Untangled from their knitting the national park series. I think the yarn is for Katmai, when the salmon run up the river, turning red from being spawned out, and the bears spread out in the river to eat and get fat.
I live in Alaska, and when I saw the color way, it really did look like red salmon running up the silty river, I knew I had to get it, knit the pattern. Today felt like a good day for it.

So great to sit and knit with you. I’m knitting a shawl that isn’t too complicated, but I do need the instructions and chart in front of me, so I only work on it during calm times. I don’t mind weaving in ends, but I will save up a few projects if I’m completing them within days of each other, and will weave in the ends all at once. I do sometimes leave the last few stitches of a hat on the needles until I weave in ends. 😂 The dishes from your grandparents farm sound like a real treasure.

Oh, Christoper, what a lovely chat. I didn't go to my regular Sit & Knit this week because my life was too peopley and I needed a break. I'm so glad to have this chat with you, instead. Your mittens are GREAT! They will be so warm and welcome.
Apologies for the length of my response, because it feels like a real conversation. No need to respond because I feel like you have.
Your grandparents are probably smiling broadly that you are using that stoneware pot. It's a beautiful piece. And what a great use for it! Don't you love finding a piece of your heritage and using it for something?
I love bringing in the outdoors, too. I want to try my hand at making leaf skeletons this winter. I need to gather some leaves to press so I can use them later. I don't see me doing this project until later this winter.
Mittens and socks are my joi de vivre, too. I love creating them with all their different styles and colors. I have too many of both on the needles now. I need to get some of them finished so I can enjoy them on these frosty mornings. I'm working a pair of striped socks as I enjoy our conversation.
Nothing wrong with starting your recipes early. I am hoping by next holiday I'll be more able to do some baking. We have a lot of good competitions at our county fair, so I am thinking it's a good time to try some new recipes. For the holidays, I usually love pecan pie and sweet potato casseerole since I grew up in the south. YUM! This time of year, I love to make soups on Sundays, two crockpots of it. I do it every other week and have some to give away and some to keep for later. It's a great opportunity to have a great variety of soups ready for my evenings, with a nice piece of warm crusty bread with butter. My daughter and her family come over and enjoy whatever soup they want and take some home, usually a couple of quarts for later in the week. My SIL is learning to cook more and was asking how I made soup the last time they were over. I need to text him how I do it, so he can make some, too. I don't use a recipe, though.
Have a great week and I will be back for some quiet crafting.

What a great way to end my evening. I have a hard time shutting down my mind at night and your soothing voice and relaxing music help immensely. I am working on a pair of socks for my middle child. Both my middle and youngest were wearing normal day socks to bed to keep their feet warm. I made them wool socks last year and they adore how warm their toes and feet stay at night in the winter. Both of them will be getting an additional pair this Christmas. I am enjoying your podcast and particularly your "at the table" episodes. I find it soothing to have on the quiet music and to hear your thoughts without there being constant chatter, and to feel like I'm with someone even thought it's a recorded podcast. You really capture the feeling of being at the table together. I agree that socks and mittens are wonderful knits for self or friends and the pair you finished up with Fisherman's Wool look really special. Right now I'm working on the Korshavn Cardigan but desided to go with a soft worsted yarn and no mohair. I had an intense desire for a cozy cardi even thought I tend not to wear them regularly. I think this one might be one I actually would wear at home when relaxing.

For Christmas instead of money, my niece asked for a crocheted version of a knitted pixie hat her friend got, in either red or light blue, so I found a few patterns on Etsy. As I watch this delightful video, I am working on the Pretarian Pixie Hat by Wools & Tools, which was the only one that uses bulky vs super bulky wool. I got 4 skeins of Cascade 128 Superwash merino in a light turquoise (colour 231) and 4 skeins of Berroco Ultra Alpaca chunky in a true red (colour 7234). I have to attach a scarf to this pattern, so I will be doing a little finagling to get that right - wish me luck! If things work out and there is time before Christmas, I may double the Berrocco and make her the Very Winter Cable Hood&Scarf, which is nothing like the design she showed me, but it looks so cozy and warm, perfect for a Canadian winter. Half tempted to make it for myself! Well, maybe after all the gifts are done. Thanks for another relaxing hour crafting with you. Always such a pleasure to come across genuinely kind and gentle souls.

Each small loop is an individual chain stitch. All together I guess I would call it a button loop. I crochet and would love to learn knitting. Knitting is elegant for sure. Thank you for this podcast and thanks for the hilarious uproarious Halloween horror story. Geez. I really feel for you.

I love autumn food too. I've been eating root veggies soups and apple crisp and drinking hot chocolate many times during the last month. Mmmm. So good!
I think your mitts are really nice. I hope they're gonna keep you warm 😊

Another lovely at-the-table interlude! I used the opportunity to get a sock to the point where I'm just going in the round to make the foot, and then switched to sleeve #2 on my Water Bearer cardigan. The cardigan is for me, and the sock is the second of a pair that will be a Christmas gift for my mom.
We had a really quiet Thanksgiving at my house. In ordinary times, we'd go to my parents' place (out of town) for the weekend, but my husband is recovering from a few health issues, and he doesn't like turkey, so we had homemade chicken curry and hardly even acknowledged the occasion. (I don't think Thanksgiving is quite the big deal here as it is in the US, actually. It's a family-dinner occasion, but a less pressure-filled one, at least in my experience. The US holiday seems to be a big travel occasion, and I don't think that's as generally true in Canada.

I like to save the ends for knit group because it doesn't require much concentration and it gives me a time frame to give them my attention. While watching this with you all, I worked on knitting Modified WWII Army Gloves for my husband. Mittens are so much easier! (and I still might make some too) but his chemo treatment makes him really sensitive to cold things. So he has to wear gloves to get anything out of the fridge, for example.

When I just started knitting I started knitting socks with old 2 mm needles of my mom, my second pair was on modern 20 cm needles of 2,5 mm. No more sock knitting for me I thought! When I was starting to watch knitting video's on youtube a year after I didn't understand why everyone seems to like knitting socks so much and telling it is something that is a quick knit! DK weight socks seem like the way to go for me. Maybe next year!

I tend to weave in the ends either as I go, if I'm changing color, or at the end of the project if its just one color yarn. I consider it the "final step", and once I'm done weaving in ends I can toss the finished project to the side and move on to the next one.

Thank you for a cosy time at your table :) About weaving in ends: I do it right away because I feel that doing so I make my project shine. It`s done. It is as finished as it could be only missing the good soak and maybe a blocking prosess. No jewelery would make a beautiful ring and not polish it afterwards, right? So finishing my project properly is to me is the reward to myself to see how good a project looks when it`s finished :)
I`ve been knitting on Eva cardiganjunior by Petite Knit. Knitting christmas gifts to grandchildren. Love to cook stews and food that take a long time to cook and filles the house with heavenly goood smells. In Norway we do not selebrate Thanks Giving, but in our family we do have our kids and grandchildren on sunday dinners. We love making good memories to the little ones. Happy fall.

I love Thanksgiving, too. In recent years, my family has been celebrating Samhain, which is only a few days away now. We're going to make some food that our passed-on loved ones enjoyed, take time for reflection and connection, and eat some yummy pumpkin pie (that's probably my favorite food for this season). Myself, my husband, my 3 kids and their significant others, and now this year some tiny scrappy socks for my first grand baby! Love your autumn branches! My favorite fall decorations are the ones foraged from the outdoors. Also, loaf cakes are the best, especially when paired with a hot cup or tea or coffee! Your mittens are lovely as well, I was thinking of making some fingerless mitts as Christmas gifts. Now I may need to make the Twisted mittens for the men, they look great on you! Although currently I am working on a sweater for my dad, so I don’t know how much other Christmas knitting I will get to! It’s the Saven sweater, a gorgeous cabled knit that makes me think of the celts (My dad is a lover of Celtic music). I am thoroughly enjoying working the cable charts, especially while listening to your relaxing podcast. Thank you for making this space for all of us to enjoy (and your words of wisdom)!!

I love these videos, I love just getting to sit and knit. I am currently binding off this years MKAL shawl and it's my first time participating and my final shawl has exceeded my expectations. I love baking during this time of year and trying new recipes. I don't usually bake sweets for thanksgiving anymore as my mom makes sweet potato pies and that's everyone's favorite, I bake a few loaves of bread now. In the past my favorite thing I've baked was an pumpkin gingersnap pie, but no one ate it. I have food allergies and sensitivities so Thanksgiving isn't my favorite holiday but I do love being with family.

I am a half and half when it comes to weaving in the ends, if the item will be going into my in-person knit group as show off your FOs I will weave in ends. Knits completed, out of the season for their wearing, can wait 6 months to have ends woven in, as I generally do them between projects in the warmer months when the light is better and about a month before I am likely to want to wear them.
The warm months is when I also do fitting modification to completed garments, ie bamboo and cotton stretch with wear and can sometimes require adjustment - surgery after a seasons wear. Darning and repairs when it is too hot to knit, or crochet.
Thanks for the sit and chat.
