My little tip for making a small space look less cluttered is to get boxes or picnic style baskets to conceal things in but that you can still easily get them out of. I also transfer my coffee and nuts or any other food products that are always visible on a bench out of their packaging into neutral containers- like glass jars- it makes everything look so much tidier

your apartment is so cute!!! i'm planning on refreshing my place soon, it's getting so boring and dull. a tip for the frumpy baskets: turn your shower on the hottest it will get and let the basket sit in the steam for about 15-20 mins, stretch them out to shape and they should keep the shape afterwards. i have one woven basket like yours that arrived all wonky, took a couple of steam trips but it's perfect now. hope this helps!!

Cut a long piece of cardboard to coil in the cat basket to give the sides support so it doesn’t flop over. Or you can put a slightly smaller plastic bucket 🪣 into it for support.

Tip: (because I have a bunch of those woven baskets) Put cardboard in the bottom of your baskets and they won’t fall over 😊
Also, for getting out any wrinkles in your linen cloths, just throw them in the dryer for like ten min with a damp washcloth and the folds with come out super easy ☺️

For the cat toy bag get some liquid starch and soak in in the sink or a bowl or something with the starch and water and the stuff something inside to make it the shape. Let it dry. Water alone might work too.

Watching people organize is always so relaxing and helps to give me ideas for my apartment as well :) Also for the old towels, if Japan has any and if they'll let you donate them given the pandemic, I heard a good place to give such things to are animal shelters. They often need towels for things like pets giving birth and all the random spills and accidents that come along with pets.
And also on that note, I'd probably still hold on to two or three old towels. Never know when you might need some for a spill too big for a mop and it would be awful to have to use your good towels for that moment. Ended up running through half of my towels when the spot where my washing machine was located at my last apartment sprung a sudden leak after it was disconnected and donated away. Was just about to walk out the door and lock up when the faucet erupted 😅 The area behind the washer wasn't the cleanest, so I was happy to not be using nicer towels for that.

I would get a plactic tub for the cat toys, no chance of it collapsing on itself - plus, it's an extra area for them to hide in.
The grey bedsheets brought the room more together.
Those black shelves are amazing. Need to grab me a few for my place too.
With the fake plants though - maybe get some decorative rocks to go on top - just in case the cats go investigaing and try to use the dirt as another litter tray.

@@sharlainjapan Here we just put two curtains together, the blackout on the outside, the nice one inside (on the same rod). It works if you have hooks or grommet curtains, if they have that pocket top I don't think that you could it. We do the same with the shower curtains: crappy transparent one on the inside, nice one on the outside so that I just need to replace the inner one if it starts getting too full of mildew. We buy mildew resistant stuff, but it doesn't seem to actually work that well.

I told myself I was going to clean and organize today but woke up so tired. This video was perfect timing! Now I'm going to make coffee and get started! Thanks Sharla :) Your apartment looks so nice by the way!

Ooo...the stone soap dispenser is a hook for sure. NICE choice. And I love the feeling of not just a cleaned space but a freshly organized one. It's somehow calming.
The table cloth Maro pull was perfection.
Tofu karaage is a thing? I wonder if I can find that somewhere around the Bay Area, California.
Those assembly instructions were hilarious, too. May as well be Step 1: Remove packaging. Step 2: Make. End of steps.
Super fun video! I enjoyed it very much. Thanks for sharing!

Great video! When you were asking for some ideas I was hoping for some decorating and organizing ones. It is so satisfying seeing spaces be transformed. All the best to you and the cats (and Chris) ❤
