Quick tip - Got an Ortis yesterday. The clip created massive discomfort so I swapped clips with the Odium. BOTH now feel better in my medium glove size hand. Give it a try.

@jeffrey abrahamse My Baklash needs a big brother too! I've had the Praxis in my Amazon shopping list for a couple of weeks now. The Praxis has a blade only .25" longer than the Baklash. That is why I haven't already ordered.

Complex, I purchased the Ortis like a month ago when you first mentioned it. Didn't even need the full review to hear the gush and excitement haha. Zero regrets, it is an amazing knife. Thanks for the recommendation!!

Ordered the Damascus/CF version last night as a Christmas present to myself. After watching some reviews, I cannot wait until it arrives. Beautiful looking knife. Will be my first Civivi.

I’ve had my Ortis for about 3 months now. Great knife. Nice fit and finish and the action is very smooth. No real complaints, except my hands are fairly large and the liner lock can be tough sometimes to disengage the blade. Other than that, love it. Been carrying it as a gentleman’s knife when I want something a little classier looking.

As soon as these were available I ordered 4. The plan was to have 3 for Christmas gifts for friends. The issue is not knowing which to keep for myself. Leaning towards the green handle with coated blade.

I bought one of these right after seeing it in your recent video talking about the RAT 1. It's definitely a great little knife & I really like the bowie style clip point. Compared to others I own in the same price range from Steel Will & CJRB this is a step up in quality for sure. Cheers for the recommendation MC. 👍

Got mine last week, great knife, been in my pocket since it arrived, it'd be a great platform for other steels as well, I'd pay almost whatever they asked if they had a version in black micarta and 20cv, wouldn't be budget anymore but would still be worth every penny.

And, now, for something completely different...
I go back and forth between the Ortis and their Appalachian Drifter (a dual-detent slip joint). Both good looking knives and both in my wish list. After spending too much at the Spyderco Seconds Sale, I am trying to hold off further knife buys until after the first of next year. It isn't proving easy. Don't think I missed that near-Ortis-on-Ortis crime around 18 minutes either. 🧐

The damascus version was my first “nice knife” (I know it’s a budget knife/entry level for many people), and I cannot praise it enough. It’s perfectly sized for EDC, the action is near perfect in my opinion, and the ergos are perfect for a small-medium hand size.
That said, I haven’t put it through any truly hard tasks, so I can’t speak to its durability for “tougher jobs”. Had for over 6 months though and it has no blemishes or signs of wear. Would recommend to pretty much anyone interested in knives

I would have assumed the carbon to be lighter, guessing the Damascus added the weight.
To anyone on the fence between which to buy, as an owner of the Damascus/carbon fiber version... I would 100% go for it. It's waaaaaay worth the extra 40! Looks much nicer in person and feels like a $150+ piece. Hope it helps!

I stopped buying budget knives except small ones like Spyderco Dragonfly 2’s, mini Kizer Domin, Begletier etc.. But, these Civivi’s look so good I need to get at least one or two. I don’t like flippers but will buy them on real good knives (I kept 6-7)...
Consistency is a big part of quality. IME-MT Socom Elites (manuals) Spyderco Sage 1, ZT 0562 etc are all the same (F&F, lock up, action etc). It’s usually just found on higher end knives. I have the MD WE FF Crux, Dao and Buc and they are all excellent quality. WE/Civivi are killing it and in general making the best value knives.

The dogma has G2 scales with D2 steel and a very similar blade profile. Perhaps we can get that video of you making sounds and shaking the table after all. If you don't mind, I have a quick question as someone new to the world of knives. How durable are the protective coatings on these, or on blades in general? Do the corners and edges end up uncoated after a while? It looks good, but I am curious if wear over time makes stonewashed preferable.

    • @metal_complex
      @metal_complex  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Depends on the coating. True DLC or PVD coatings are extremely durable. Cerakote is pretty good too. On less expensive knives, it's more likely just "paint" or something similar. All coatings will wear away over time, but the ones I listed will last quite a while

Wow. I was just about to recommend the Sencut Citius for your mom because last week they were only 32 bucks. They're now back up to base Ortis prices though :( Still, might be worth checking out. It does sport a more narrow blade and handle. I *suspect* it's lighter too, but I can't check that right now (it's just so much more narrow that it's gotta be using significantly less steel).
Still, I figured it'd be a great recommendation for $32, but now that they're basically the same price as an Ortis, I'm not as confident in the recommendation :(
