I was once driving South from Darwin to Adelaide, when I stopped for fuel at Tennant Creek. This was back in the mid-1980s. An agitated tourist in a rental car was asking the duty mechanic why he couldn't fix the car's aircon. The tourist spoke with an American accent. After explaining several times he did not have the appropriate equipment to do the repairs, the mechanic suggested that a service station which specializes in vehicle aircon repairs was just down the road. The impatient tourist asked directions, and was told to head south, stick to the main road, which in fact is the only road, and just past the next set of traffic lights it's on the left. The man jumped into the car and took off.
I turned to the mechanic and said from memory, the next set of traffic lights is in Alice Springs, half a continent away. Yeah, he said, ain't that a shame.

The reference to Australia being upside down is explained as....... Australia is in the Southern Hemisphere, “below” almost all other countries on the usual arrangement of a map or globe which places cardinal north at the top..... When I was a child I remember countless British TV shows referring to New Zealand and Australia as being up side down💖💖💖

@jonathonwessling541 Actually, i do know that, and people also keep claiming we have a hole in the ozone layer above Australia. NO WE DON'T if we had an actual hole in the ozone layer, we would all burn alive. What we have is a thin ozone layer above Australia, not a hole in it. The ozone layer also holds earth's oxygen in the atmosphere. If we had a hole in the ozone, wouldn't the oxygen be sucked out of our atmosphere? Think about it 👍.

Its all-relative mate. Who said north is on top? Glendambo has a nice roadhouse. A little bit dated but good meals and a comfy bed. After a 12-hour drive the beds are as comfy as home.

Well consider water flows downwards. The south pole has a land mass under the ice cap, but the north pole is all water eith ice floating over it. So clearly the north is down relative to south.
SO THE WORLD MAP IS TYPICALLY DEPICTED UPSIDE DOWN, AUSTRALIA, ANTARCTICA AND SOUTH AMERICA BELONG ON TOP, THE REST DOWN BELOW....
