As far as I’m concerned, in the ballet world is not. Having a good port de bras is something that is admired and sought for in a good dancer. So I agree with you! ☺️
I'm not a dancer - just a fan of ballet, but these videos have helped me so much perfectionism. If a dancer from City Ballet can make mistakes in a principle role in a major ballet, I'm allowed to make mistakes too.
I LOVE these commentary videos. I would love to see the swan lake as I would be interested in hearing your insight on that ballet. This is beautiful content as always.
I found this video because I enjoy comparing interpretations of the Rose Adagio. The attitude balances are truly one of the most difficult sequences in all of ballet. When I was dancing in the 70s, I read a book called "Ballerina," which was a novel loosely-based on the NYCB, and the author included a discussion of this part. One of the characters said she remembered her teacher's instruction--"I imagine silk ropes pulling me into attitude, and I fight them, just a little." I found that so unbelievable that I immediately put on my shoes and tried it, and HOLY COW! Worked like a charm. I didn't have any princes handy, so I used the refrigerator door handle, but it was so easy to form the crown then bring my arm back down. As I recall, imagining the ropes somehow made my center so secure made it easy to balance. I'd love if any current dancers would try this and let me know if it helps!
I love these because your are not only talking about techniques, but also about emotions and mistakes. It makes it so good, and I LOVE to watch these!!!
Please keep doing this!!!!!! Show us some performances you are especially proud of. I wish you come back to dancing full lenght ballets, your artistry and expression are great, no wonder why you got promoted to soloist at such young age xx
Agree, it's so interesting to watch and usually you can imagine what's going on, but getting some sort of translation makes it more enjoyable, easier to focus and you even get things pointed out you'd probably have missed....
I was so entertained by the commentary! If you didn't say anything about your mistakes, I wouldn't ever know as I'm not a trained dancer. I just love watching ballet. I thought you danced beautifully. I loved, "Oh, hello. Ok. I'll go with you over there." Lolol!
It's so lovely to hear you add some 'dialogue' in the video, it really helps me understand what's going on and your movements and facial expressions make so much sense!
What a joy to watch. It's been a long time but I remember how hard a lot of this stuff was. And it takes a lot to make it look this beautiful everybody here very very good
I have been dancing as a hobby for my entire life and just walking on pointe would be my absolute dream, since my feet are so weak I tried so hard so many times, but it just seems like I am not able to do it, hopefully some day the training will pay off... watching these videos helps me so much to reactivate my goal and to clear my perspective on what is important to me. Your dancing is absolutely beautiful!!! It just seems like it is part of your body, which is amazing
Stunning! I cannot get over your energy, vibrancy, and how beautiful your arms and extensions are! You've probably seen the NYCB performance clips recently of Aurora's entrance and rose adagio (and I love all of them)... but the youthful, beautiful interpretation you bring to Aurora is my favorite and is really a step above the rest in my opinion. Thanks for doing these type of videos!
Thank you SO much for doing these. It's utterly fascinating for me to hear you analyze and discuss the scenes. I'm a professional musician and one of my favorite gigs I've ever played was a ballet. It's so interesting to hear things from a Soloist's perspective. Thank you for what you do!
I love how deeply you've thought about each character and how their journey comes across in movements / expressions as the ballet progresses. And in those final balances without going up to fifth, you still look like a boss! 💜🌸
I don't think copyright should be an issue with these videos since you're just using a small part of a recording to make something new and also creating an educational tool. So in all likelihood you're protected under fair use. I absolutely love these commentaries and insights into your dancing, and I hope you can keep making them!
Really cool idea, to give commentaries along with the performance! It really gives an insight into what you as a ballerina are thinking/feeling in these moments which is something I as a hobby dancer will never know. So thanks a lot!
Kathryn Morgan I would love to see your interpetation of Kitri!!! And also it would be great to see more footage of To Dance. I am a dancer with Panov Ballet Theatre and it would be amazing for us in the company to see this musical about our director's life! Mr. Panov is old and unwell and I'm sure it would make him happy!
Hey Kathryn! Loving these type of videos, can you pleeaaaassse do a commentary to your Juliet? You've always talked about how it was a signature role for you, and I would love to see you do more dramatic ballets. Love you! xx
I'm not a dancer but I admire ballet. I find your commentaries very fascinating. I'm a painter and with my art, I don't always nail things either! Keep dancing!
its really great to see the other dancers on the stage enjoying your performance as well! sometimes you can see some of the girls behind smiling when you nail all the balances and stuff like that its really cool. I like how you emphasised to have eye contact with the other dancers on stage too because many don't care and they make it all about themselves but this way its alot more holistic than just Aurora all the way haha. Great job, thank you for sharing!!
I love that you show how you can still give a wonderful performance, even if you are not 110 percent on your game....all the little fixes and adjustments. You still gave the audience something beautiful to see ! In my life as a nurse, I sometimes do the same thing! We have off days also and must learn to adapt to that fact.
I get pointe shoes this fall, and I am super excited!! This is a great example of amazing technique while en pointe, and I look forward to dancing as beautifully as you one day!
I went and saw the Australian ballet perform sleeping beauty tonight. The whole ballet, especially the rose adagio was incredible. By far my favourite ballet. The rose adagio is also my favourite scene in the ballet.
Wow! Your steps look so secure, even when you are not feeling secure. Please may you do a video on releves in a series? I am learning a Paquita variation and keep bombing the attitude/arabesque releves. (Also, do you have footage of yourself doing Paquita? I would love to see it.)
I really like how you walk us through the variation. It is interesting to know that you don't always stick with the same thing, you adapted depending on who you are dancing with. Anyway really love your videos!
you really are such a gorgeous dancer ! And these videos are so interesting, bc I used to think that proffesiobal ballet performances had it ALL figured out and every single thing they did on stage was completely planned , but it was interesting to find that you do have to adapt, like you said :D
Oh yes- I had to adapt and think on my feet countless times. You can't do it very much with a partner (obviously) but I did it during solos ALL the time
I really really love how you’re like, a human dancer you know? You’re a role model who is realistic. You don’t have these inhumanly flexible feet, or impossibly tiny frame, not every little thing is executed perfectly. But you’re a professional and a beautiful dancer and can thrive doing what you love. It’s just personally very inspiring for a dancer who isn’t “perfect”, to have someone to look up to who “perfect” ( I hope this doesn’t come off in the wrong way, I meant it entirely as a compliment. )
This is very informative and fun to listen to! Thanks! I’ve danced when I was younger, but it’s nice to hear about your thought process during a performance. I stopped dancing and became more of a spectator when I’m older now. My best friend continued to dance and is now dancing for a mayor company. It’s fun to discuss performances with him; for him it’s his job and he pays note to the technical aspects, and for me it’s about the ‘feel’ and portrayal about the choreography/music/story. I have to say, it’s quite fun to listen to your small adjustments/improvisations on the go, without showing it to the audience. Good job!
Great commentary. I remember seeing The Royal Ballet's Lesley Collier towards the end of her career get a perfect arabesque at the end of this and not have to take the hand of the last Prince. The theatre went berserk.
It might sound like a weird compliment, but your arms are so so beautiful 😍
Thank you! xo
Great point! Thanks!
I felt that
I LOVE these commentary videos. I would love to see the swan lake as I would be interested in hearing your insight on that ballet. This is beautiful content as always.

I love these videos sooooo much!!
Thank you Lily!
Me too!
Agree, it's so interesting to watch and usually you can imagine what's going on, but getting some sort of translation makes it more enjoyable, easier to focus and you even get things pointed out you'd probably have missed....
I love that you really pay attention to artistry and your character :)
I was so entertained by the commentary! If you didn't say anything about your mistakes, I wouldn't ever know as I'm not a trained dancer. I just love watching ballet. I thought you danced beautifully.
I loved, "Oh, hello. Ok. I'll go with you over there." Lolol!
Love these videos! So interesting to see what's going on inside your head when you look like a stunning dancer!
love these voiceover commentaries. they're very very informative and i learned so much. i hope you keep doing them.
The Rose Adagio is my favorite "dance" of any ballet. Your commentary made it that much more special--thank you!
It's so lovely to hear you add some 'dialogue' in the video, it really helps me understand what's going on and your movements and facial expressions make so much sense!
I am so glad this is helpful!
What a joy to watch.
It's been a long time but I remember how hard a lot of this stuff was. And it takes a lot to make it look this beautiful everybody here very very good
"Hallelujah! IT'S OVER!" Haha me too
now every time i watch any rose adagio when aurora goes over to the queen i always hear "duhhh dance with them!" in my head lol
I love how you did the port de bras/ couru section, to me that's always been the most beautiful and exciting part of this dance, when done properly.
I have been dancing as a hobby for my entire life and just walking on pointe would be my absolute dream, since my feet are so weak I tried so hard so many times, but it just seems like I am not able to do it, hopefully some day the training will pay off... watching these videos helps me so much to reactivate my goal and to clear my perspective on what is important to me. love what you said about acknowledging the people on stage, so true
So elegant and graceful! Thank you for sharing with aspiring young dancers like me.
These videos are great! Your dancing is beautiful and your commentary is super helpful, would love to see more!
Thank you so much! I will definitely do more!
Just beautiful. I love your commentary. Thank you!
Really cool idea, to give commentaries along with the performance! It really gives an insight into what you as a ballerina are thinking/feeling in these moments which is something I as a hobby dancer will never know. So thanks a lot!
I would love to see footage from the Kennedy Centre performance!! xx
I will see if I have a video - I am not sure if they allowed us to tape the performance or not!
Your “worst ever” is still so absolutely beautiful!!! Keep dancing Katie ❤️❤️❤️
Hey Kathryn! Loving these type of videos, can you pleeaaaassse do a commentary to your Juliet? You've always talked about how it was a signature role for you, and I would love to see you do more dramatic ballets. Love you! xx
These commentaries are so great.
Please can we have more.
I love your humour in the narrative and willingness to share your dancing with us.
I'm not a dancer but I admire ballet. I find your commentaries very fascinating. I'm a painter and with my art, I don't always nail things either! Keep dancing!
Your port de bras is just divine!
I love robbie!! i take classes from him every year and he is the best!
I love these so much. If you didn't point out the mistakes I would never have noticed them. It was beautiful.
its really great to see the other dancers on the stage enjoying your performance as well! sometimes you can see some of the girls behind smiling when you nail all the balances and stuff like that its really cool. You are such a gorgeous ballerina. Your use of port de bras and your head is everything ✨🙌🏼
My favourite videos you make, you're an absolute stunning dancer and you're commentaries are even better!!!
I love that you show how you can still give a wonderful performance, even if you are not 110 percent on your game....all the little fixes and adjustments. You still gave the audience something beautiful to see ! In my life as a nurse, I sometimes do the same thing! We have off days also and must learn to adapt to that fact.
This is highly interesting to watch, you sound so honest. Would love to see more posts like this later on!

I love the rose adagio so much definitely one of my favorites if not my favorite

Wow! Your steps look so secure, even when you are not feeling secure. Please may you do a video on releves in a series? I am learning a Paquita variation and keep bombing the attitude/arabesque releves. (Also, do you have footage of yourself doing Paquita? I would love to see it.)
