@@PlumpyPig yes, but like I said, Dipper wouldn't be dead. only his body would be destroyed. Think of Bill to have multiple plans and contingencies when he planned to make a deal with Dipper. He thought things out pretty thoroughly. The best case scenario for Bill was that he would be able to "dispose" of Dipper by destroying his physical form but still leave him alive to suffer. If that ever failed, he would have still been able to delay Dipper from finding out about the portal plans. Which is what happened in this episode.
I think the "don't exist" bit would have worked so much more creepily if his mouth wasn't moving and it was just his voice, showing that he can mock Dipper and still look perfectly normal to other people.
German Bill is even funnier I think. He says "Schmerz ist ja zum Schreien", which is a German way of saying "Pain is incredible!". But the funny part is that it directly translates to "Pain is for screaming"
+HopeCvon Puella Magi Madoka has Kyubey, a guy who also adores manipulation and is an abomination against humanity. I felt very many similarities, honestly...
Most Disney Shows: Love each other, do good, be kind to everyone. Gravity Falls: PAIN IS HILARIOUS. Another reason this should not be a children's show/why it is so great.
Your Argument is Invalid well, bill cipher is an antagonistic character and also a demon so it's pretty clear that you shouldn't be following his example. also, actually most disney shows taught me that friends are shallow and will turn on you for the slightest thing, and no matter what the ramifications are, you should totally keep up with that lie instead of just coming clean. gravity falls may be at times dark, but at least the characters have real consequences for their actions that don't just last for an episode. also realistic sibling relationships.
Love the detail that he closes his eyes, the timer starts and then Bill shows up Bill can only interact with people in dreams/the mindscape The timer isn’t even real, Bill made it to put pressure on Dipper
1. Bipper talking to no one probably couldn't be noticed by anyone except Dipper, just like his cat pupils are easier for the audience to discern than the characters. 2. It's theorized that the "data erase" was never real, and Dipper already fell asleep and entered the mindscape, allowing Bill to make it look like the data was about to be gone.
itd have to be a bit more than a theory, given that non-physical bill has been only been visible in scenes people wake up from after, or nod off before, unless they shake his hand and allow possesion.
The pupil thing isn’t true. Ford told Dipper to look at his pupils to confirm he wasn’t Bill, I think it’s just that Soos and Wendy just don’t focus much on his eyes
For anyone wondering, this video was likely marked as "for kids" which deleted all of the comments but was later put back to normal hence all of the comments being recent
Dude the amount of PTSD Dipper must’ve gotten is unbelievable, he’s such a good character. Props to the design and script writers for knowing how to tell the story of this 12 year old who doesn’t know what he’s going through.
In a later episode when Dipper is wearing that machine that protects his mind from Bill, the screen that shows his thoughts says "eenie meenie mienie you"
If you read Journal 3 Bill says that after he's destroyed Journal 3 he would jump off a water tower to frame Dipper's death as a suicide, damning Dipper's soul to wander the mindscape forever... Dark- and appropriate.
“Besides, whats your sister done for you lately? How many times have you sacrificed for her, huh? And when has she ever returned the favor?” Ouch. You’ve got to hand it to Bill. He certainly knows how to strike a nerve. And he does have a point. All the sacrifices Dipper made for his sister sake and all the times he’d risked his life for her. He even gives up a chance to become Stanford’s apprentice. Classic “George Bailey” syndrome.
@@ssj4gogeta130 it wasn't entirely her fault, pal. Ford has created the rift in the first place. She has been helpful to Dipper and her Grunkles. He should have at least told her. This is just my opinion. It is really OK to agree or disagree with me. 😉

Note: Bill has to have someone AGREE with the 'contract' thing BEFORE hijacking their body He can't just take it This adds to him NOT being all that powerful
Yes, but consider this: This dude, with what appeared to be a casual amount of effort, was not only able to trick the smartest and most paranoid character on the show, but also came _very close_ to winning once he had done so. He may be flawed, but he definitely is working with whatever flaws he has.

Bill is a dream-demon, master of the Mind-scape. Perhaps he can still communicate to mindscape independently from the physical-realm, meaning nobody outside the mindscape would hear him.
In Journal 3, Bill explains that if it wasn't for Mabel stopping him, his grand feat at the end of the day would be having Dipper's body jump from the water tower in front of the towns people.
You know that Mabel actually realized how wrong she was, feeling responsible for what happened to Dipper, facing the consequences then she saved him. She showed sincere remorse after finding the note. She sometimes has selfish moments but just like Dipper she actually learns from her mistakes and she is a good sister to Dipper, isn't she?
Bill Cipher is hands down one of the greatest villains I've ever seen in a cartoon. His sense of humor, unpredictable personality, and enigmatic nature make him a truly brilliant character.
*slamming dippers arms in the drawer* Boy these arms are durable *still slamming* This is the best part in the entire episode and I don't care what anyone says
Bill Cipher, one of the best cartoon villains. He has the attitude for it, creating tricks and finding loopholes in deals, making them seem what they really aren't, and he has the perfect voice to go along as well. I have never seen a better villain in a cartoon! Bill comes to the top of my list of my favorite villains, and Queen Chrysalis from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic comes next. (Yes, I am a pegasister.) Third, Garrosh Hellscream from World of Warcraft. (I play WoW a lot too. c:)
I feel bad for Dipper both Mabel and Bill have both used him for their own selfish gains and then discarded him for their own ends, not giving him what they wanted.
The fact that Bill is less selfish than Mabel,Bill even mentions to Dipper about how many times he's saved his sister and she hasn't returned the favor

They talk in the commentary that dipper blinks before Bill appears, suggesting that he was asleep for this whole confrontation. What I didn't realize when listening to the commentary is that he blinked before the whole countdown on the laptop happened, suggesting that Bill made that happen in order to get dipper to make the deal
I noticed that too, is there was a failsafe on the computer to keep intruders from taking looking into data, why after days of failed PW attempts, using when something like this happens it would be after the first few attempts, even the first time they met in this episode dipper woke up after the conversation, bill can’t be in their world physically yet so he had to resort to when dipper’s asleep, which is easy because of how sleep deprived he is, my god is bill cleaver
This was a strangely creepy episode. Soos and the Real Girl was, too. Does anybody else have a feeling that Gravity Falls is slowly going to get scarier and scarier? If it does, that will be freakin' awesome.
Exactly! they're way creepier and more violent now, plus they're showing more and more blood, which is rare in cartoons (Dipper's nose, Wendy's scratches). Not to mention more humor for adults (like when Stan said "I can't tap anything" in the last episode... LOL). I just hope the show doesn't get cancelled :( ...
bloopyblop Judging solely by the various genuinely creepy things in this show, for once, Disney seems to have done a really good job at balancing the light-hearted humour with the stuff that will genuinely haunt my dreams ("Here, kid. Deer teeth.").
+Bree Holthus Or Bill should possesses Mable next time. becuse since Mable is so incredable random and crazt, if someone notacied possesd Mable eating food with the wrappers still on it of try to climb a tree just to jump of it, thery will all just assume that it's just Mable being Mable. "HEY DIPPER! WHERE'S THE JOURNALS!" *Bill says while pulling at his/her own hair* "Um.. number 3 is in the shelf in our room, and 2 and 3 is with Grunkle Ford.... why do you need it?" "I NEED IT TO THROW AT A SPINE SHAPED CLOUD TO MAKE MALE FLAMINGOS FALL OUT OF IT!!!!" *Bill mumbles while trying to eat a whole, uncut watermelon in one bite* "Ok...... knock yourself out then..." "OH I WILL!" *skips backwards up the stairs to retrieve number 3*
They did that on purpose to invoke an "Uncanny Valley" effect. Look it up to get what I'm talking about; it really made Dipper's possessed body seem that much more unnatural and disturbing.
Tem flake Cupcake I think he meant that he has to help Mabel at the expense of himself. Like if dipper got into Harvard and Mabel the community college nearby she’d put on the twin talk and waterworks and he’d be so guilty he’d sacrifice his future for her even though their relationship is strong enough they could probably stay in contact and/or dipper could see her on weekends. Remember dipper did sacrifice his relationship with Wendy multiple times for Mabel and in return Mabel really hasn’t done anything significant in return besides maybe say sorry or give him a pat on the back. Bill does have a point that their relationship is a kinda take and no give.
Something I love about this scene is how you can’t actually blame Dipper. Usually in shows and movies, the writers make the characters act stupid to create the conflict and it just makes the audience extremely frustrated. In this scene though, I never once blamed Dipper for making a deal with Bill. He was at his most desperate moment and the deal didn’t sound bad whatsoever. It was a perfectly logical decision.
Bill is so cool, I mean I like his personal speech patterns, it's very colorful, like using the words "by the by " or the names he calls them "pine tree" "shooting star" "question mark" just because of the symbol on their clothing, And I love the way he's so random "hey you wanna hear my impression of you in 5 seconds", or the part with Gideon "here have some deer teeth" Gideon: "you're insane !" them bill responds "sure I am what's your point" Don't think of me the wrong way but just like before gravity falls was aired I liked adventure time and my favorite character was Magic Man and now Bill Cipher reminds me of him. 0_o I always thought I was weird for Magic Man being my favorite but it all looks natural since a lot likes bill even thought they're not exactly the same.
Allyson Reyes Lol you're the same as me, I didn't watch Adventure Time back to front but I saw an episode with Magic Man in it, and he became my favorite, and Bill is the reason why I'm finally marathoning this show. He's insane in a cute yet at the same time menacing way and I love it.
Could think of a few Exorcist jokes right now... Hmmm, let's see..."The Power of Stan compels you! The Power of Stan compels you!" Bill Cipher: What an excellent day for an exorcism.
+deedeeke1991 Well actually when Bill comes in at first all the colours are Black and White, and the only way Bill can enter someone's mind is if they're weak minded (like Dipper, hence the open window), so when Bill came in Dipper passed out, and when you sleep, time goes faster, and the whole thing is actually a dream, and when Bill pulls Dipper's soul out off his body, all the colours are back except for Dipper, so to sum it up Dipper fell asleep and this was a dream, and Dipper dreamed making a deal with Bill, (kinda like when you dream of going to the toilet, but you acceidently wet the bed. Sorry for the long post............Potato.
TheADDNinja05 I think that’s the point. Even though Stan and dipper have a better relationship he still probably resents the fact that Stan is making him do chores while letting Mabel sit around and do nothing. So he’s echoing Stan to show he’s doing a permanent chore for him.
I like that to Wendy and Soos, Dipper just randomly turns to the window ominously and says "but how can you stop me, WHEN YOU DONT EXIIIIISSSSTT???? HAHAAHHAHHAHAHHHAAHHHAHAHHHHAHAAAHHHAHAH!!!!!!!!!" and no one in the car bats an eye.
Why did Bill destroy the laptop? If he destroyed it befor the eraser countdown (and the hard drive survived the stomp) he just saved all data he wanted destroyed. If he did it after the countdown it was completely unnesessary. Then again the eraser countdown could have been a foil by Bill because dipper could enter passwords for more than 24 hours until it kicked in. It doesn't look like a logical safety thing to put on a PC. Not even in the 80's
Well even if it was erased the data is technically still there expect it is set to an overwrite mode were new data will replace the old. Like old VHS recordings.
I thought dipper fell asleep and bill made it look like it would delete everything so dipper would have stress and would be easy to handle. So I thought if dipper said no he would just wake up with nothing wrong with the laptop. But these are just my thoughts...
This gets more interesting when you realize the bodies have previously possessed were 1). A corpse of a man named Silas Birchtree 2). And Standford Pines, back when they were partners
I always loved how Bill is so unhinged that his “deals with the devil” don’t need to make sense. Usually in a deal with the devil, “the devil” will fulfill his end of the bargain, but in a way that causes outsized negative consequences. “I wish to be rich,” your father discovers millions of dollars worth of gold but ends up dying, now you’re rich from the inheritance but your dad is dead, that kind of stuff. Bill doesn’t do that. His “deals” are literally just a trick to get you to shake his hand
it's so hard to watch Bill when he's hurting himself like that. like, you cringe when he's laughing while drinking soda because you're afraid he'll get some in his lungs. and when he falls backwards down the stairs, you're terrified he'll break his neck.
I know, right?! Demonic possession stories never scared me until this episode, mostly because the implications never get fully explored. The demons in question, they just... I dunno, throw shit around with their demon brain powers or make it look crazy-obvious that a possession is happening. Bill's blatant disregard for the well being of Dipper's body to pursue the sensation of pain is quite terrifying to watch (imagine being Dipper in that situation- gah, and those forks!), but that's just the more obvious stuff this episode brought up.
3:17 "But how can you stop me...if you don't exist?" This line genuinely frightens me. Sounds like a line Big Brother would say in 1984 right before vaporizing someone.
Technically Dipper hasn't made any terms before becoming Bills Puppet (the deal is implied but never flat out stated). Also even if Bill did use the correct password to the laptop he would destroy it upon opening.
He did actually. Bill promised he'd give him a HINT, not tell him the password. And by smashing the Laptop Bill gave him a hint that led him to McGucket
Note to self: Possessing people is hilarious! To think of all the sensations I've been missing out on-burning, stabbing, drowning. It's like a buffet tray of fun! Once I destroy that journal, I'll enjoy giving this body its grand finale-by throwing it off the water tower! Best of all, people will just think Pine Tree lost his mind and his mental form will wander in the mindscape forever. Want to join him, Shooting Star?
Dipper: Are you going to replace my eyes with baby heads, or something!? Bill: Yeesh kid! Relax! You know Bill made a mental note to give that a try on someone once he took over the universe
One time my brother and I were watching this when my sister came in and asked for help to fold a blanket. Then bill starts talking at 0:57, and when he finished we all started at each other and said "what"
There's one thing I noticed, in relation to Bill's wheel. You know how he refers to Dipper as Pine Tree, Mabel as Shooting Star, etc, which corresponds to what they are on the wheel? He just calls Wendy "Red". So maybe she isn't on the wheel after all? If she was the bag of ice people think she is she'd be called... "Ice Bag" or something.
angel absol my theory is that could be another reason why he chose to possess dipper when he was sleep deprived: he could just pass off his weird irises as a side effect of not getting enough sleep, kinda like when you don’t sleep or you go to bed for an hour and get startled awake they’re bloodshot.

Well... I guess that young children don't know what is hilarious 😂😂😂😂

Love the detail that he closes his eyes, the timer starts and then Bill shows up
Bill can only interact with people in dreams/the mindscape
The timer isn’t even real, Bill made it to put pressure on Dipper
It is like when you dream and see the clock, it shows different time.
The second one is confirmed to be true
The pupil thing isn’t true. Ford told Dipper to look at his pupils to confirm he wasn’t Bill, I think it’s just that Soos and Wendy just don’t focus much on his eyes

TheADDNinja05 I think that’s the point. Even though Stan and dipper have a better relationship he still probably resents the fact that Stan is making him do chores while letting Mabel sit around and do nothing. So he’s echoing Stan to show he’s doing a permanent chore for him.

1:37 I think he did dipper a favor by snapping him out of this and stop him from being a maniac
Bill didn't want Dipper to find out his plans,so he wants to destroy the laptop and the journal.
Robloxlover666; but if the laptop already erased the data itself than it`s already gone. No need to desrtoy it right?
I thought dipper fell asleep and bill made it look like it would delete everything so dipper would have stress and would be easy to handle. So I thought if dipper said no he would just wake up with nothing wrong with the laptop.
But these are just my thoughts...

0:52 The deal that spawned a Transcendence.

Gideon cut the deal off when bill couldn't do his job, same thing could apply to dipper
Technically he did give him what he wanted. He broke the laptop revealing McNudgets name which would’ve let him to the password

Best of all, people will just think Pine Tree lost his mind and his mental form will wander in the mindscape forever. Want to join him, Shooting Star?
This was, is and will be my favourite episode of gravity Falls.
Same.
up until the whole cipher gets defeated by the same girl who inadvertently made the deal with pine tree possible. Geez shooting star is annoying af.
Dipper: Are you going to replace my eyes with baby heads, or something!?
Bill: Yeesh kid! Relax!
You know Bill made a mental note to give that a try on someone once he took over the universe
Hey Dipper! I borrowed your journal to use as the prop of the show, I'm gonna go before you proscess the sentence "Okay", BYEEEEE!!
-Mabel Pines
One time my brother and I were watching this when my sister came in and asked for help to fold a blanket. Then bill starts talking at 0:57, and when he finished we all started at each other and said "what"
LOL😆
@@derekfloatzel254 holy crap, Bill can see EVERYTHING!!!!
How did Wendy and soos not notice that evil laughter at the end
There's one thing I noticed, in relation to Bill's wheel. You know how he refers to Dipper as Pine Tree, Mabel as Shooting Star, etc, which corresponds to what they are on the wheel?
He just calls Wendy "Red". So maybe she isn't on the wheel after all? If she was the bag of ice people think she is she'd be called... "Ice Bag" or something.
A comment from before the finale out in the wild
EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE NOTICED THE WEIRD PUPELS, anyway to me this episode was
AWESOME BEST EVER
angel absol my theory is that could be another reason why he chose to possess dipper when he was sleep deprived: he could just pass off his weird irises as a side effect of not getting enough sleep, kinda like when you don’t sleep or you go to bed for an hour and get startled awake they’re bloodshot.
1:53 crazy faces😂😂😂😂
Bill did made a point, Dipper sacrifices everything he wanted for Mabel, and she never made it up for him.
She helps him
But Mabel sacrifices something she wanted for Dipper in this episode
"Boy,these arms are durable." I love that part.
isn't it against the rules for bill to break a deal
Been wondering that too.
Not because he did give him a hint
as if he actually cares
@@cradica what was the hint?
He said a "puppet" it mostly definiton sock puppets or actual puppets
but when said to a person it means controlled or controlling a person
