I think the aggro decks were already fast prior so adding broodscale to the mix is a breath of fresh air. finally combo has an actual arctype and it doesn't feel broken by any means. (im a midrange player btw) blue/black decks answer it well, Broodscale punishes people that are too greedy with ramping out big boiz (Ponza/etc), and the aggro decks still can go under it/answer it with some of their targeted burn cards. Mono red is still at the top IMO followed by everything else. Its just hard to get better than synth/bolt/bushwacker stuff. Also a side note, IMO Rat has a wayyy bigger impact on the format. pushed G/B gardens out of the meta and forced a third color for writhing so you can at least answer rat. made grixis affinity an actual threat again. Made orzov ephem an actual threat... i even see some mardu lists doing well. Didn't they ban glitters because if you were running white you had to run artifacts and glitters? starting to see those signs with rat... Better frogmite? oops... (FYI i love rat)
I agree with you, RDW Is top tier near a Tier 0. Longer we go i think this meta Will eventually become RDW vs anti-RDW. Played 2 leagues Yesterday found 6 opponents on RDW 2 on Affinity 1 uw cawgates 1 broodscale
I was thinking about this just this morning actually. on MTGDecks it is actually the highest ranked deck within the past two weeks being almost 13% of the meta which is a lot. But it has only a 53% win rate. This is a great winrate I know but it is right among the rest of the top Pauper decks right now (some of the decks seem to actually have a higher win rate). So its presence is monstrous but in terms of winrate it actually is right at home among the top Pauper decks: it doesn't surpass them and seems to be among some of the strongest decks but isn't some Nadu situation. But I understand how a singular card coming out and creating such a powerful archetype in such a short amount of time could be seen by some as a problem.
Only time will tell if this new archetype will be a welcomed edition or not. It’s always jarring when the meta game gets challenged and someone’s tier 1 deck is suddenly tier 2 on the charts in a short few months. As long as people can play against it and still feel like they had fun (or at least had a chance against it) it shouldn’t be to bad
Wait, only 13% of the meta is a lot? Idk man I come from yugioh where we have decks taking over 30-40% of the meta at times, so personally I think it's fine, the format still has a lot of different cool decks you can play lol
I'm not sure that the Splinter Twin comparison fully works with Broodscale. Yes, the deck can punish opponents for tapping out at the wrong time, but the Splinter Twin decks also had a very functional plan B with Lightning Bolts/Snapcaster Mage/countermagic that let it play whatever role it needed to play in any game. The Broodscale decks (especially GB) are far more linear and so it's much easier to cover all of their angles of attack in game
I think pauper is in a pretty good spot. Should something get banned? Maybe but the meta honestly doesn't feel bad. This is coming from someone who isnt a league grinder. Maybe the people grinding leagues and challenges feel different tho
Honestly this combo is fine, it’s not nearly as oppressive as other combo decks in the past, plus it’s still a 3 card combo to win on the spot, I play it religiously and no matter what build I play, you can still lose to a well place removal spell or simply just not doing anything while your opponent runs you over
Pauper isn’t ruined, the basking broodscale combo is a welcome addition to pauper, this is the first in a long list of 2-3 card combos that has made it to the tier 1/best deck in the format
Intentionally so. They pretty much stated that MH3 was there to force players of non-rotating formats to buy new decks once in a while. My only follow-up is that I don't believe this ruins pauper. You just need to be patient and build accordingly.
The thing with Splinter Twis was that you either lost to the combo or you played removals with ”greedy manabase” against it and then you lost to Blood Moon.
I think it's perfectly fine as it's not always a guaranteed win and there are a lot of other decks that can counteract it... Yeah, it's efficient but so are other combos so I really don't see what the issue is...
Broodscale combo isn't even that broken The thing is that AFFINITY is just too oppressive to any other strategies, or you combo, or try your luck against a deck tha draws 10 cards every turn, while attacking your hand, wiping the board for 1 mana, gaining tons of life and reviving everything.
I'm not gonna lie, I do play broodscale, but I think the bigger problem is all of the artifact tings going around making everything in broodscale and other decks way too consistent and uninspiring, I play a different kind of broodscale deck that also has a lot of gruul monsters elements, which makes it very tricky, but it won't combo of nearly as often because it doesn't play an artifact package. Banning something like deadly dispute would probably solve the broodscale problem as well as the problem of affinity being to strong, options like dislute would still exist, but are just slow enough to give other decks time to catch up.
@@ferificatienodig1025 that seems like an uninformed opinion. Fanatical offering is already preferred to DD since it gives counters for the combo. You've had to ban 8 cards to get that draw engine out of the format. I agree that artifacts are too free tho, but if they don't ban, then a functional reprint or dust 2 dust is needed. hell, even vandalblast wouldn't be enough
The big problem in MTGO pauper leagues is RDW taking over 70%. So broodscale and other combo have space to try taking a Place in the metagame... In paper magic the metagame Is a lot different, luckly
Pauper could use a board wipe but need to fit a common. Maybe like 3BB destroy target creature, each other creature gets -1/-1 until end of turn. So it can kill a the main creature and kills there’s and your tokens
I can't understand how players, especially pauper players, like to talk so much about banning cards, if banned one today they're talking about another tomorrow, if they used that energy to fight or build I believe it would be different, it seems like this type of player is too lazy to think about how to combat certain decks. And a reminder, banning X or Y card won't make your bad deck stop being bad. Congratulations on the video.
Perhaps that happens cause a lot of answers are already banned, and this format is meant to be eternal, not a forced rotation to sell boxes of new sets. I would expect some insight in the birth Spirit of the format coming from such an arrogant position.

I honestly think Writhing Chrysalis is more of a problem than the broodscale combo itself
Look at grixis's winrate. Rat has a bigger impact imo. i don't wanna see it banned but im worried :(
@@miketouhey6486 what is rat?

Ban broodscale combo? Meta warping? Are you even playing pauper?😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅

Gotta love Wizards shitting out these products that keep ruining formats

Ayyyy thanks for the shoutout in the video! Much appreciated!
I think it's ok tbh. Affinity and mono red still can compete but definitely one of the best decks rn. Mono blue terror is good against imo.

Broodscale basically does what altar tron does but only better..
This gives me some ideas
Are eternal formats just cooked?
If they aren't cooked, they're at least well seasoned & the oven is preheated.
Instantly banned cranial ram though…. But an a+b combo was greenlit…
they didn't spot it
