Just got a group of 9 black emperors, never intentionally spawned tetra before but once these guys grow out im gonna give it a try update: after breeding these guys a few times with various levels of success one thing i havent seen mentioned is (this applies to the black emperors dont know if the same can be said about the normals or the purples) after the female is done spawning and are tired and maybe a little stressed from the male still going after her she will loose a bunch of her colour and thats how you know the females are done spawning also might just be me and my tank conditions but regardless the size of the spawn or the success i noticed about 1/4 to 1/3 are " slow starters"
these videos are extremely useful when trying to learn about how to breed less common tetras. There is so much information that's typically really hard to find online
There was a youtuber, I think he goes by Aussie Aquatics, and he kept emperors in a heavily planted tank. The emperors bred on their own, his population grew relatively quickly. This put me under the impression that they may be pretty easy to breed.
I believe it. I've had a similar experience so far. A fry or two pop up every now and then even in tanks where I wouldn't expect it. I would categorize as them as fairly easy but at least in my experience not especially prolific. I want to hear from some other people if they've ever had large numbers of fry come out of a single female in a single spawn.
Marbled hatchets and I think silver also have bred now in captivity. The methods weren't complicated or unusual but if it was easy, everyone would do it. I would love to try at some point.
Can you please do a whole care video on these I can’t find very many and I want purple and blue tetras in my shrimp tank but can’t find very much info on either species ❤
Your videos are amazing! I just started breeding some zebra danios (glofish) and I'm currently growing them out with fry powder (new life spectrum) I've seen you have also used fry powders with some fry, how do you determine whether to use paremecium or fry powder? have you had issues with fry powder in the past? e.g. some fry just don't eat it at all?
That's kind of a judgement call. I'm not sure I've dealt with fry that would refuse to eat powder, though it's possible. I look at their behavior. Are they moving around looking for food or are they more careful, waiting for something edible to pass in front of them? How much powder do I need to spread around just to get them to eat a few particles? We always want to limit, when possible, the amount of uneaten (non-live) food. The great thing about paramecia is that they will live until eaten. There's zero excess food to rot and pollute the enclosure. Sometimes they feel necessary or at least very helpful, other times not. It's just a nice option to have in certain situations.
I absolutely love your breeding videos always such great info! May I suggest a fish for you to work on in the future? Aphyosemion striatum the red striped killi. I got 2 pairs from the wet spot that I’ve been working with I’ve gotten fry but I’m small numbers so far. I’d be curious to see you try them and your strategies! Either way keep up the great videos
Oh very cool! I’m honestly totally unsure they seem to do a bit of both. I had them in a tank with moss and a mop together I saw them breeding in the moss but I’ve also seen them with the mop as well. I’ve only been able to get about 3 to 4 fry each time. I’ve tried putting a mop with the 4 adults for a week feeding them heavily with bbs and then pulling the mop and I’ve also tried moving a male and female to a separate tank feeding them for a week and then removing them back to their main tank. Still only 3 to 4 fry lol
Yo been watching your videos for a bit now, I’ve been keeping fish for under a year. I’ve been able to successfully breed albino Cory’s and Venezuelan Cory’s. I have some gold lasers that I got a few months ago but I’m not having any luck breeding them yet. Can’t wait for the next video!
I have 1 Male and 6 females and my male is VERY aggressive. I see them breeding often but haven’t noticed any fry yet. I’m wondering if my velvet shrimp or existing tetras are eating them
@@MakeMoreFish wow ic thats a decent swing but on the softer side, mine is 300 - 400 I use ro to keep my tanks at around 100 in the 30 g planted. They should be breeding but iv never seen fry. Gonna try pulling them out and try ur method! Thankyou!
My cousin saw paramecium in my betta fry tank and he was like : hey you breed worms in fishtank 😂 Question : I have a outdoor pond in direct sunlight having female bettas , tiger barbs, widow tetra , angel fish , and German blue rams They doing really well since last June What I observed is that when sun comes up they get active and night comes they seem low is that okay ? Love from India 🇮🇳

Have you tried congo tetras?
I love your channel, I've recently setup lots of 40 breeder and 20 longs for breeding projects and these videos are a treasure trove of great info.

I had these in a 29 gallon a few years ago. I don't see them mentioned very often, but they're so much fun.

This is one of my favs tetras. I don’t have tanks anymore so I love watching these videos.
U should get some more tanks! U won’t regret it
Felt like forever since your last post thanks for this one!
I always enjoy your videos. Keep up the great work!
An excellent video. Thanks for the update on your project!

@@MakeMoreFishI don’t have any infusoria or paramecium at the moment, would green water or vinegar eels work?
I have a nice challenge for you! Try breeding Kuhli loaches. Or some neon tetras. Both will be a bit hard to pull off.
Excellent video. As always. :)
What about to make video about maintenance of ifuzoria ? How many to feed? When? How do you decide the questions?
Yesh another great video in addition to your content. What are you using to record? Just epic!
A canon M50 recently but you'd be surprised how much is a cell phone
Man I just got these a week ago, thankyou very much for the vedio, very enjoyable and lots of info
Nobody (probably) has ever bred hatchettfish so you could try with them

Yes what I meant is that it is very masochistic (to use your words) and that here in Italy it is impossible to find non wild ones.

I was wondering if you can try challenging species like pea puffers?
Yes, I will certainly try. I have a group and at some point will put on the barry white and see what happens.
@@MakeMoreFish lol. That'd be amazing.
@@MakeMoreFishjust a heads up, the parents apparently needs two years to mature...
Can i suggest doing Congo Tetras, i have a group of 10 and to see you cover them would be ideal to learn from
Sure. I would love to try congo tetras at some point.
@@MakeMoreFish Magic. i look forward to it in time:)

Are they mop or substrate spawners? I'm raising some Gardneri Killis right now, that might be somewhat close. I'm sure I'll try other species.

Love these videos!
Great video! Have you considered trying green neons? They're trickier to breed than normals and there is also very little info on breeding.
Not seriously, at least not yet. I would do regular neons first and then maybe
love your videos
great video as always👍
VERY INTERESTING INFORMATION :)
THANK YOU FOR SHARING :)
THANK YOU FROM ISRAEL :)

ya, the males are jerks aren't they? My guess is predation from adult fish rather than the shrimp.
@@MakeMoreFish must be! Yeah much more aggressive than I thought they’d be. The females are fine though
bro can you make a vid where you feed you fry with bbs and the other batch with frozen bbs, curious which is better?
live would be better in every way except convenience.
Diamond tetras are very easy like this too. I got 7 babies on accident.
Hey, I love ur videos! Can I ask what is ur tds
It ranges throughout the year from as low as 30 to nearly 300

I like emperor tetras, thay have so much character comparing to most other tetras. I only found Congo tetras similarly amusing.
Hey man, in what temperature and acidity did you spawn them? Ive had a lot of difficulties with tetra spieces in terms of spawning
77F and pH in the high 7s. Emperors were not picky in my experience. I expect many other tetras want softer and more acidic water.

Sounds normal to me. They must all be diurnal
@@MakeMoreFish yes 😁
Pls share ur water parameters like gh,kh
3 dKh and 7.9 ph, if I recall
Man you are good at breeding fish u should breed congo tetras
That's a nice male! I ordered 10 from breeder, got 13, out of them 1 or maybe 2 females, plus he threw in 2 GMO tetras in the package 😂
