I rolled up on a white oak in a guys back yard about 30 minutes from my house a couple of days ago that was a twin with two stems at least as big as that one. The cut were they separated was over 60" wide. I had to leave that, but the limbs are 8-14" and there is at least 100' of them. I've filled my trailer twice and will go back Saturday. Free oak is the best wood ever. Great find and a great video. I'm sure most guys that saw that log just drove on by due to the size. That big saw took care of business.

    Hi Scheib!!😀😀
Glad to hear you have permission to take the wood.
Before you made the first cut you should have threw a few 4 to 6 inch logs crosswise under the trunk. That way it would have kept it up off the ground while you bucked it up.
    Take care my friend!!😀😀

Also before the first cut, run a chain around the tree, do you can drag it onto the road. Cut on level ground whenever possible.

Hello good sir. May I kindly recommend a raker depth gauge for when you file the rakers. It will stop the jamming and bogging. You're having a tooth digging issue not a pressure bind. The saw is just trying to take too much wood per tooth, so much so its bogging almost to a stall in some cases. Either a depth gauge or just don't take them down as far and it will surprisingly cut a lot smoother, it will also get rid of the chatter and heavy vibrating during cutting giving you much more control over the tip of your bar.

Man be careful you should never have been down hill of that tree while cutting off the root ball. Get a bigger saw for that tree, like a 660 or a 661. I own a very nice 500i-R but only run it in 20"-24" stuff. My 660 comes out to play when big cotton woods and big pines are being bucked down!!! Thanks for the video!!

For big rounds that roll, I use one of my 2x8x8' wood trailer ramps to roll the round into my truck. Then if you keep them on the 'roll', you can shut the tailgate or strap them in. Then simple roll them off at home.

Scheib, nice Roadside logging at its finest! I really like these video's because no 2 roadside logging videos are the same.
One suggestion that may help is maybe throwing a small round under that log as you cut it off the stump, that way it is up off the ground just a bit.
You did awesome by not hitting the ground though. This past week in Michigan between Joe's Premium Firewood and Dave's Outdoors and More. I could had a semi load of Roadside logging. It was unbelievable. Then if you go along the State highway, there is tons more, i believe though they sell those logs and the people doing the work take the smaller stuff as they clean up near power lines. So much standing dead trees, trees blown over. I was in wow mode as i was traveling. Great job once again getting that nice oak log. I took outside with Scheib with me to Wisconsin and Michigan. I had your T shirt with me. It was really cold though. So it was used as an undershirt.
I thought of you and stopped to get a picture of a log in Michigan as i was traveling home. I will send it to you!

Dad cut rounds on top of a hill at my uncles and it was our job as the kids to roll the rounds down the hill. We had a blast. It was a big hill. This might be my last comment for a while. I’m probably going to be in jail for a few days. I can’t take it anymore! I’m going to go do some roadside logging!!🤣🤣👍🏻👍🏻

Regarding the 290: I sold my ms290 after 10 years of use. I couldn't believe it, that I sold it for almost what I paid. Great saw, but I had to take advantage of this strange Stihl market and the 290 phenomenon that is still happening. I sat on the cash for a while and bought a brand new shiny ms261. Pro saw, lighter and yet more powerful. Swapped out the .325 B&C and put a 20" 3/8 B&C and it cuts like a 60cc saw.

That's one big boy oak! You should see how many trees are along the road in the Beachie Creek Fire zone in Oregon, they are everywhere. I asked ODOT if I could cut a cord or 2 and they said no! 😳 They took down so many trees after the fire its ridiculous. Not all trees were burnt. The good sawmill grade trees are taken to the mills, but the others that will make good firewood are just sitting there. Oh well.

The Game Commission would never give anyone permission to remove any wood from the side of the road. They could maybe sale permits like the State forest sells.

Save some time with the saw by only cutting halfway, and bust them with a maul.

Should've brought the maul with you and you can just start the quartering cut and pop it with the axe. Saves on wear and tear on saw and time but non the less impressive haul

SCORE ; great idea to have both saws , so you were not caring from side to side . Those 1/4"s are going to make some nice splits .

You almost need a tractor or skid steer to help you with all the roadside wood..
