I met this wonderful old gentleman whilst on a cruise, he said he would rather travel by boat that a plane as they were safer….an honour and a privilege

It's crazy how so many people have different stories about the band. Many people say the did. Others say they didn't. I think the truth is what a person considers "playing as it goes down." Do you mean "all the way down as their heads go under?" Or do you mean as the ship sank 70% & then stopped. Im sure they probably stopped at SOME point. The debate is when. Id imagine they stopped around the time the boats were gone, knowing they were men & wouldn't be getting on one, then as the ship began to tilt, knowing they couldn't stay, said their goodbyes, & went to swim for a boat as best they could. Which would have been around when this gentleman made his swim for safety.

According to most witnesses the band statement adds up. They say the band played for the first few hours but as time went by and more chaos arrived they stopped playing and stood back with their instruments

It is correct the band played yes, but not till the end and the 3rd class we're kept down until the lifeboats were away, so when they came on deck, there was nothing there for them.
