    One thing which helps me is having music playing when shooting the reference, if you need to convey an emotion well while not really feeling it, this is a great way to feel it on command.

    I did martial arts for quite some time and you know how mechanics of kicks and punches work when you did it for many hours.
    Also you can always go to sport club that does something like sword fighting and ask them, they have gear, they fight for real you will get amazing reference and explanation what is going on.

    For shooting references with props I would recommend to use items that are HEAVIER than the actual prop. It will help to read weight way better.

    The motion blur is not due to the frame per second but it’s due to shutter speed. So you can still record in 24 fps but you will need a higher shutter speed to get a sharp image.

    0:17 I AM IN LOVE WITH *THIS ANIMATION*

  • @leobottaro
    @leobottaro 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Just a side note: if your device allows you to change the camera shutter speed manually, you don't need to use 60fps to get less motion blur, just crank the shutter up to 1/100 or 1/250

    • @SirWade
      @SirWade  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is a good point!

    • @pschelp3605

      changing fps to less blur?
      is that for slow motion?

    • @leobottaro
      @leobottaro 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@pschelp3605 higher fps also requires the use of a faster shutter (that's just how videos works), so if your phone doesn't allow you to change the shutter manually, increasing the fps can achieve the same "motion blur reduction" effect. if your phone doesn't support 60 fps but has slow-motion, then use the slow motion. also, sometimes phones doesn't support 60 fps at 4k but do support it in Full HD - try different resolutions.

    hey wade, here's an idea for a video - my contention with rogue 1's digital humans is that they didn't use performance capture enough. the reason why it looks fake and "off" is because you can see ANIMATION. you can see the effects of keyframe animators exercising their craft which is STYLIZED... and that's why the character faces look fake. it's not the modeling. it's not the textures. I've seen renders and they look solid. it's the animation. and maybe use an animator's eye to distinguish between how thing really move and how animators make things move... because while animation is informed by reality it is NOT reality. there is exaggeration and caricature and stylization that simplifies and clarifies in a way reality does not.
    and you can compare to thanos which looked terrific and much more "real" than tarkin or leia.

    Just want to let you know the framerate has nothing to do with motionblur, it's 100% to do with the shutterspeed.
    ie. more light, faster shutter, less blur.

I think it's awesome that you actually have a first-hand handle on something like parkour to help you with your animation because it's something I've struggled with for the past few years now (whether or not I want to pursue a career in animation or in something fitness related). Quick question! What if you are doing a crazy OTT anime style super hero move, where there is no reference for! Like he flips twice, then triple kicks and then lands! I have been editing together/blending clips of various gymnasts/martial artists in AE then using that as a guideline! Would animators do similar techniques please? Or is it a case of what works for the individual? Is it normal to 'bash' together various clips to get what you want? Thanks for any info!

    Great video! Do you have any advice about animating King Kong/Godzilla/Cloverfield monster-sized creatures? We imagine them being very slow-moving, and you'd guess their movements, reflexes and reactions would be somewhat slower if only because of the longer distance down the nerves, but is there a physical rule about this?
