Brother I been following you for a couple years now and finally in my own truck at Prime. Researching the fuel costs now since last week (Christmas) I got DESTROYED in fuel costs because I refueled before I went home. Lesson learned !! Now on to more self induced schooling!! Thx.

Ferris here.......yeah I'm old school as well......but I'm a numbers person too.....I'll have a big note pad ......then write down the starting milage and everything that's done in-between including fuel and other stuff bought for the truck.......then do the math on how much it costs per mile to operate the truck.......great info.......can't wait for more videos......😁

New drivers must get use to a 24 clock,i.e. driving at night. Your discussion on fix,and variable cost is on point.

I am so happy to hear that someone is mathing out this fuel surcharge because like you I hear the claims of seven MPG is no more than 99 cents, And I see that in the math but man if that doesn't feel very inaccurate to me haha
And also very much related to this fuel prices have drastically changed how I've been trip planning lately.

I've been lease for 3yrs. I am getting upset now when I decline a load for particular reason and request a certain load that might be available they come back and say we're not picking loads we're not here to play games. This isn't okay when I'm a independent contractor I should have the ability to request a load I want, destination, time of pick night shift, day shift driving, how much time is on the load ect.

When you decline a load you are documented in their system. The best way to do it is when they send you a load you don't want to do. Call the dispatcher and ask them if they have something different or closer to what you are looking for. That way they will take it off and your not being documented as someone who declines loads. Relationship is key.

    • @fr8sk8r

No most definitely read your contract in depth…ALL OF IT. Also make sure to do a thorough inspection of any truck you plan on leasing, even a brand new one. I don’t care if it’s a tiny scratch, note it on the inspection form, you will be liable for any and all damages or problems to that truck if it’s not initially noted on that inspection form. .99 for fuel lol lie lie lie,Prime charges different for dryvan, reefer, tanker and flatbed, your leasing the truck it’s not your load or trailer so That’s one way the company gets away with cheating the driver, when your experience is not long enough to lease a truck in that one year is not experience one year is learning I suggest wait 6 or 8 years before you lease a truck, 99.9% of the time if a brand new driver leases a truck it will fail

  • @carhauler00

I got to laugh. Never lease a truck though prime or any company. Save your money for down payment. Buy a truck from a dealer then you can lease on to a company stay away from company’s like prime. They are starter company’s and will take advantage of you one way or another. Find a small company to lease to use there numbers pick your own loads. Or get your own authority.

Trucking is not a lifestyle it is McDonald's with a steering wheel.its just a job .I know I have been doing it for 20 years..the mega carriers have made it where any body can do the job.notice I said can not capable. The problem is everyone thinks they are the difference maker.when training you need to let them know that trucking can and will cost you everything. They need to know they will be missing birthdays weddings funerals special events.you are going to lose friendships your spouse close connection to your children your going to lose sleep your health.they need to understand that trucking companies don't care it's all about the money you the driver has one purpose and that's make more than what you cost to all companies we are just an extension of the equipment we are all replaceable. Once you get those truths planted in their head then you can start explaining the other side . without giving them a dose of the real world they will not be able to make a proper decision
