    I have 2 M119, both with the old style distributor, a 500 E W124 and a 500 SE W140. My father has a W202 C43 AMG with the M113.
    Both engines have been bullet proof reliable, except on M119 when distributors have moisture on them, caused by long periods of not driving the cars.
    Performances: the M119 likes to rev a little more than the M113, so in lower revs the M113 appears to have more power, but in high revs the M119 is king. In a drag race between my 500 E and the 43 AMG, the 500 E won easily.
    I love these Mercedes V8s, easy to work on, very simple by today's standards and very reliable

    Great to hear your review of the M119. For me, it’s one of the best engines ever made, from an engineering point of view, particularly the early version, with no common failures, other than lack of maintenance. Having worked one many engines this is the one for me. You could say I am a fan, as I own 5, including a high output 6liter unit that’s currently in my 500E, and I built myself. Currently project includes fitting a Transaxle to one, with a view to install in in a mid engine sports car.

      I hear about the timing chain guides going bad with age due to being plastic, but that's about it. My dream would be to own a Sauber C9 replica fit with the twin turbos, but of course it will almost certainly just be a dream 🥲

    You just proved the point of why you need a 500E. The .3 is just fine in that car, but yes not exciting.
    It is your …. DESTINY ….

      Well we all know that the love of the W124 is a sad devotion to an ancient religion.

      Don’t center on your anxieties. Keep your concentration here and now, where it belongs. Always remember, your focus determines your reality.

    I left my sun visors like that to hold up my sun shade for a few weeks and the Texas heat ended up melting the mirror off the visors and cracking their plastic frames.

    R129 sl500 (326 ke-jetronit versio) sure is fun, but the old 722.3 kills the expriemence due to insanely long first gear along with lack of overdrive for highway.

    As owner of M119 powered W210, i can say it's significantly more robust than next generation M112/M113 series, even though fuel consumption is a little higher if you floor it, but it was not the top priority these days...

      I want one, but they werent sold in Australia :( our first e class v8 was the one i have, the e430 with m113. If i had the 420 first thing id do is get a 5L and built a 6L

      only a handful and easy to swap out.

    I keep thinking about doing a 722.6 swap in my 92 400E.

    • @MMWA-DAVE
      @MMWA-DAVE  ปีที่แล้ว

      I would. Find a 1996 onwards S500 w140 and put the 5L engine in there too with stand alone controllers for both. It’s what i would do 😅

    722.6 gearbox have 4 gears + overdrive, like 722.5 gearbox. 722.3/4 have just 4 gears no overdrive.
    Best engine is 119.960 it is 117 like hi end version of 117, same block. 119.97x and 119.98x is different engine. 119.960 tall deck other 119 small decks.

    Dear I have 91 w140 300sel
    Car Start normal and drive normal but when I click down acceleration ASR light flashing and car drive as limp mode and car! I have to stop car and start again for normal drive? can you help

    • @MMWA-DAVE
      @MMWA-DAVE  ปีที่แล้ว

      i have not studied how ASR works, but to me that certainly sounds like a missing or corrupt signal from a sensor. If its going into limp home mode you will be able to pull an error code off it, I have not done this on w140’s so don’t know how. Could be the dreaded bad wiring harness issue too.

    Hi. Do you have a video on have to attach sacco boards on again on w124? Its no one ol youtube 😂

    • @MMWA-DAVE
      @MMWA-DAVE  ปีที่แล้ว

      it is the opposite of removal- the clips all slot into the keyways then the whole thing is locked in place by the edge screws (doors) front and rear fenders are mildly terrifying as breakage is possible. You are best finding the factory workshop instructions. Painted cars with many layers of paint can be VERY difficult to get back on.
