    This man's ears are great. Too many channels dial in a flubby, mushy mess that does no justice to either the amp or guitar. I prefer dialing in tones just like him myself. Lows thick enough to sound "beefy" but not flub, mids high enough to cut but not quack, and enough high end to sizzle but not fizz. Love your channel Mr. E\m/. I use this amp myself, and with a pre/post eq , it turns into a Sabbath MACHINE. Thick, syrupy sludgy riffs that are still somewhat tight.

    I'm very picky about amps. I've owned or played most of the top amps. I was part of the guitar scene in L.A. in the 80s and tried the Soldano SLO before anyone knew about it, and Bogner's Ecstasy, and the VHT Pitbull, every hot Marshall mod, every Boogie and owned one too, and Riveras, and everything that came down the pike. I think Orange makes some of the best sounding amps I've ever heard. The tone is amazing. Just superb, crushing, tube gain.

    The texture of the Orange high gain sound is one of my absolute favorites. Like you said, not really harsh and just meaty. Of course, it's also a matter of taste, many people continue the widely used 5150/5150ish or Mesa "tradition", others vote for the boosted JCM800 but the Rockerverb is as excellent as these.

      You should check out the Guptech PdEQ pedal. The maker essentially was inspired by the lack of presence and a depth dials on his Rockerverb MKi, so he made that pedal for the effects loop to simulate presence and depth controls.

    • @compucorder64
      @compucorder64 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, it's pretty much that, and also the genre you play in. I don't play super high gain, so I find the 5150 a bit OTT, just for me, but they do sound great in their excess. Love the JCM800, really reminds me of the bands I grew up listening to. But, for tone, I prefer the Orange. I love the thickness and creaminess and they love downtuned guitars, and slow sludgy instrumental doom. And they're more versatile in the sense that they work better for blues, less aggressive rock and cleans than a JCM does. For a studio, probably the common sense choice would be Orange OR15 and the Marshall Studio 20 JCM head ... and a JTM and a Plexi :) Because you kind of miss the JCM800 bite in the Orange, but miss the low-end thickness and smoothness in the JCM

    I love all your videos, but this one puts an extra big smile on my face. My very first tube amp was a Tiny Terror, and now I have a Rockerverb 100 MKIII and it's such a blast to play. Tons of spongey, thicc midrange with full lows and a unique sizzle. Super different from my 5150 but just as fun, and just as brutal.

  • @K707OR30
    @K707OR30 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I didn’t used to think I was an Orange guy but now I own 3. They really do sound great and have a unique sound while still being distinctly British sounding. I love the OR30, it gets some killer metal tones. Surprisingly I like the AD30 a lot more than I figured. With a good overdrive it sounds awesome but it really shines as kind just a straight up rock amp, probably not too unlike a 1987 in character just less bass. Not many features but it’s great for just plugging in and ripping. I’d love to try the Rockerverb too!

    I’ve owned the Mk II and Mk III (I currently own the Mk III 50). The Mk III is brighter all round and more like a Marshall vs the Mk II. I know Ade says they’re the same on the gain channel (maybe it’s just the change of iron but I’m not sure) but they do sound different (much more presence and brightness not just on the clean ch). The Mk III also has a much better loop IMPE. Great riffs Euge as usual; extremely catchy!

      Yeah, I had a Mark II and a III 100 watt amps at the same time.
      Doing comparisons was fun.
      Both are great, but the III was better imo.
      Clearer, brighter like you said, the clean was WAY better on the III as was the reverb.
      Cranked and gained the III had better saturation.
      Loop is great, put a 10 band EQ in there and you can dial it to anything you want.
      Having a better clean channel it also lent itself to fuzzy doom pedal platform tones than the II.

    • @mountainpeakcloud8442
      @mountainpeakcloud8442 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s true, they’re clearly different. I have the MKii, and it is indeed more mid rangey, so I use the Guptech PdEQ pedal, which simulates presence and depth controls, to add more brightness (it was actually made for the MKi).

Clean channel has much more headroom than dirty channel and to have same volume of my peavey 5150 set to 2, on the rockerverb I have to set master volume on 7. I know mine is 50w against 120w of the peavey, but I think it's a weird thing...I changed tubes preamp, but nothing has changed.

    I have this exact amp, the RV 100 MKii, and love it. I agree the clean channel is not the best, but the dirt channel is phenomenal. It should be noted that even though Orange says the dirt channel on the MKiii is the same as the MKii, it’s not. The MKii is a bit more focused in the mid range, where as the MKiii is a little more scooped, but both a great.
    I actually put the SD-1 in front of mine, but it sounds like I need to get a TS. Would you recommend a TS9 or an 808?
    As the saying goes, Marshall for the high mids, Orange for the low mids, and Friedman for somewhere in between.
    The Guptech PdEQ pedal was actually inspired by the lack of presence and depth controls on the MKi, so it’s a pedal that has 2 knobs that simulates the presence and depth controls, and pairs really well for adding some high mids, and lows (not like it needs more lows).

    Great sounding amp. Why do they have to make them so damn ugly though?

    Hey Euge, great video. If you're interested I have a video of my MKIII on my channel - th-cam.com/video/j8MoFFcuyIw/w-d-xo.html
    I've owned a MKI and played a MKII in the past as well. I'd say the gain channels are basically the same, but the clean channels are very different across all models. The MKIII tends to be a bit brighter and you can use the attenuator to control the final volume, so you can really crank the clean channel and get an old skool plexi-ish kind of sound from it. Hit that with an MXR Micro Amp, and you actually get a pretty good hard rock and metal tone from the clean channel. It is kind of nuts!
