Panauti Jatra combines the chariot and palanquin festivals. In Panauti, the Jatra is celebrated: a tiny town about 30 kilometers southeast of Kathmandu. God Bhairav and Goddess Bhadrakali are pulled in chariots during the festival, while Goddess Brahmayani and God Mahadev are carried out on various portable shrines on shoulder poles. Lord Mahadev's participation in the Panauti Jatra is unique in that: Along with other gods and goddesses who accept the blood of sacrificial animals, one of the Hindu Trinity that does not accept blood is honored and revered.
