I'm confused about the 3rd row, is it 1dc in a stitch and 2dc in the next stitch and repeating it?
Or is it 3 dcs in every stitch?
so it’s 1 dc in a stitch, and then 2 dc in the next stitch, and repeat that pattern - i hope that helps clarify !!

you could make the smiley face separately and then a crochet square, and sew the smiley of course !
