Looking back on it, the beginning of the video I don't see much wrong. When he lunged the horse for the second time, he was a bit more aggressive (of course I don't mean straight beating it) and he was hitting more than leading. A lunge whip is supposed to be used to guide the horse one way. You can whip the ground near the horse's hooves, you can take the whip to it's legs (not hitting, but getting it to move) and such. But I could see some of his takes with the lunge whip(forgive me if I'm not terming it correctly) we're actually a bit more 'making sure it moves' than 'leading it's direction.' Again I'm not saying he was straight up whipping the shit out of the horse, but be couldn't been a little more gentle(and istg if you say shit about being gentle and saying untrue shit like "city slicker" or "you don't know what you're doing" cause sometimes that's the only comeback they have, very creative, 9/10) Getting to the part where he puts the saddle on, it's obvious that no matter how connected you are with a horse (Which I doubt that this person was connected), they will still be spooked by new things. I can't call it abuse for making the horse try something new, obviously. HOWEVER, you need to do that continuously. That horse (young) has never had anyone or anything on it's back before from my guess (and that is a horse's danger response is to buck because that's where predators attack), so you need to let the horse get used to it. I don't think this horse is going to be permanently scarred per say from this "training" method, but I CAN say (with a horse of my own) that this isn't the way to go. Everyday, consistently, train the horse to be comfortable with a saddle. Walk around, run around, let it go off and run around w supervision obviously, just let it get used to it. When the boy gets on, is that what you're telling about crying? That if I got bucked off I'd cry? Okay- and? I've gotten bucked off before from a horse who'd I'd spooked by getting on wrong, and that WAS MY FAULT (take ownership ppl) I barely got scratched maybe bruised and I teared up, but I got back on and she was cool. Accidents happen and I understand that. And if you're gonna make fun of someone for crying you may as well make fun of everybody who's been bit by a dog or kicked by a horse, because they're obviously softies according to your logic. Going back to training, I don't think the horse knows the kid that much. I can't say this definitely bc it's been a while since I watched any of his videos, and I didn't watch a lot, but when you get on a horse's back and it trusts you, it's not going to be insane about getting you off (unless you haven't trained it with tack before, most likely such as in this video) and of course that doesn't mean you have to have a connection with all horse's you train-I understand there's people who just train horse's to train horses, but there is still a much better and clearer (not to mention you get more when u allow the horse to get to know u a bit and at least become familiar with you) way of training. I didn't finish the video because I just wanted to see what I might've mistaken when I watched this before and things that I can take note of now. So yeah call me a softie for wanting a horse to be trained, not controlled. (I say controlled because I feel like this is a very quick and lazy way to 'train' a horse)

At 50 years old i sure could use these 3 boys. Mine are all grown up and got smart. No more training for them. For me i haven't figured out breakin colts sucks without boys and daughter to laugh at. Great job boys.
The only thing I would suggest is have them keep a constant hand contact when walking around while saddling it will help you read what the colt is thinking so you can react. Otherwise this is awesome! Makes me feel bad keeping my kids out of the bronc pen.

First off let me say I've started around 300 head so do know a little.Started out breaking,rough,hobbling,laying down running w's, all the cowboy way.Got em all broke but came to realize a lot of them could've been better,could have liked people more.LoL. We've learned a lot since then,starting instead of breaking so to speak.Turns out better horses that last a long time and are nice to be around.If the horse isn't being rough then we don't want to be rough either.When we know better we do better.Now for a little friendly advice.Your boys are so lucky to get to start young,lots of different horses,each one teaches something.Bad habits are hard to break,in people or animals. Please teach your boys how to be a little more deliberate in body position,body language.All that flinging around with that long whip...he might be able to handle a buggy type whip a little easier.Lets him be precise on turning the horse and learn to point and send and see just how tuned in him and the horse can get.Quieter,use just enough to get what you want turns out a more finished confident horse.Only reason I mention is cause just like a colt its easier to start him right than try to correct "it"later.To see them perhaps be one of the great ones like Tom Dorrance,Monty Roberts ,they have a opportunity to do it right from the beginning.Making working partners out of our horses and dogs not slaves working from fear. I know for a fact that Clinton starts off horses by teaching the colts not to give you the back side cus they will try to kick you the first chance they get. They should always turn towards you paying attention to what you want them to do. I'm guilty of that mistake and I corrected it a loooong time ago. It does makes a lot of sense. Again great job buckeroo. Oh and a lunging rope is always a must. You want to have full control of your horse when your working him from the ground up. 🤠👍👍👍 Cowboy up.

Yep, when you pop/hit the horse with a rider, its going to do crazy things......funny. They need to watch CA and CC & others more first.

What a crappy, abusive way to work with a horse. Whipping a horse with the lunging whip that has done NOTHING to deserve some punishment and that CAN NOT escape, chasing it around the round pen, that's not training, that's animal cruelty. I worked at a barn where we regularly started young warmblood colts, none was ever mistreated with a whip or chased around, none has tried to buck when first mounted
Instead of teaching the kid to just jump on and hold on for dear life, try teaching him some respect for the poor horse. Unlike that kid that came into the ring and grabbed the horses ear right off the bat. You get nowhere quick by teaching the horse to fear you. Respect them and teach them to trust you and you will get even better results. And don’t pull that bullshit telling me I don’t know what I’m talking about. I’m 38 and have been working with horses since I was 9. Teach the kid the proper way to train a horse. Teach him to have respect. Yes he may still get bucked and fall off from time to time, but it’s a lot less likely if he’s not running into the ring grabbing, squeezing and pulling the horses ear.

With all due respect ma'am you need to use pressure on a horse. They wasn't hitting the horse they was teaching it. That kid has a huge future in the horse training industry and its kids that are raised the way that he is that make the good horses so all you city folk can lick the frosting of the Bran Muffin and have you a nice broke horse. You should just let us do our job and let us train them horses properly.

With all due respect ma'am you need to use pressure on a horse. They wasn't hitting the horse they was teaching it. That kid has a huge future in the horse training industry and its kids that are raised the way that he is that make the good horses so all you city folk can lick the frosting of the Bran Muffin and have you a nice broke horse. You should just let us do our job and let us train them horses properly.
