  • First ride for this two year old filly ridden by fourteen year old Jade Barrett with dad helping from another horse. We love starting colts and believe that it is also a great way to build courage in our young men. (Please excuse the poor quality of the video, little brother isn't a professional videographer.)

I like seeing dad's raising their sons to be men.... Not many men around these days...God bless brother.

Love seeing the colt loped on the first ride... makes it so it isn't a big deal for the colt later. The young horse got a great deal of confidence from the older more experienced horse too. Lot of horses in the world that need to get put under saddle glad to see a good young colt starter coming into the business.

Loved This. The Dad's voice sounds familiar. Is he the same guy that told his son in another colt starting video, "My grandmother could ride that horse, while crocheting!"Best comment ever! The son was starting a colt he got from a guy that raises bucking horses. Lol,his voice sounds the same. Have a good day everyone. 👋

Great video. Love seeing videos of getting colts started. That’s the right way to do it. You will get these idiots saying cowboys like us are to rough with horses. They are ignorant and don’t have a clue. Keep the videos coming.

Question here. I have a miniture horse. He is a colt, not fixed yet, I have been training him mostly ground work, and he has a disrespect towards my kids. He hasnt reared up like he used to until today. After he did this I took him in the pen and worked him.
Is there any suggestions, answers to what else can I do to get him to not be disrespectful towards my kids. Oldest is 13, 9, 6 and 4.
Bridget 13, has gained respect through her listening to me. Do as I do.
Jesse James is 9, he is scared of "Pony". He doesnt listen as well. Hint hint.
    Ethan 6, well, hes scared.
Emily 4, she maybe after today.
Being afraid doesnt work with trying to break a horse. I know that.

Jessica Hawkins my brother had one that was the same way I took him and gave him a job after I rode him to teach him what I wanted from him and he completely changed he had a good relationship with any person he met but he took two summers on the ranch doing pen work ( he was to small for pasture work) and he was dead broke and my legs were glad for a real size horse after that but I will say what I tell everyone it doesn’t work for kids to learn on a green horse get a well broke older horse for them to learn on
