The first game soundtrack that made me stop and pause the game just to listen in awe was Sly Spy on the Commodore 64, by Geoff Follin. I was about 10 years old. These guys are pretty amazing, especially to wring such sounds out of a chip with only 3 voices, without using samples. I seem to recall reading an interview with Tim Follin where he said he wrote the music directly into the source code, too... good stuff.
@@azrael-labs Well it's been a few years and the standards of the highest quality SNES music have been raised significantly above this track. For example: th-cam.com/video/dzBpPVd6Y3c/w-d-xo.html
@SockShock: Sorry about that. I thought this was the C64 screen; I had never played either of the versions myself, I just loved C64 version's music. =)
@JoeyJoeJoe5000 It kind of exist. From what I hear it was half finished but never completed. I have a rom of it but haven't had much time to mess with it at all. Also rumor has it that a few copies are out and about somewhere.
You know it’s a big job when Tim Follin had to call up his brother for the track. I loved this one. The follins are legends!
Whoa, whoa, hold on. How'd they get strings on the SID?
+Xiusho Cavettes Its Tim Follin, he pushed the systems he worked on to there limits!
+Xiusho Cavettes Low attack rate, quick pulse-width modulation and high notes.
+Highway Guy A fairly accurate violin-like sound is present at the beginning and end of the piece.
Sounds like a filtered sawtooth wave with a long attack and maybe some vibrato/tremolo
there's even a very subtle portmanteau between stringed notes
oh follin, such fine details...
Rest In Peace Geoff Follin
If I was ever involved in an epic battle, this would be my theme song. this song is badass.
You still stand by that in 2022?
@@ihatelaptops4704 I would, this shit s t i l l slaps.
ofc its the one with the eduardo profile :sob:
@@ihatelaptops4704 i use a laptop :trol:
Immense tune, came out near the end of the C64's life so not as well known as some of the other stuff
Idk why but this music scares me, but in a good way. Like it was written by an occult master.
TBF, it was.
This's nothing short of beautiful.

Today I became a Follin fan
Welcome. Music for you will _never_ sound the same ever again.
Never heard of this game before and stumbled upon it on pure chance but the music is indeed good.
fucking masterpiece
HOW DID HE GET THE COMMODORE 64 TO SOUND LIKE AN SNES
You should hear what he does with an SNES! (see Plok OST)
You can thank Mr Follin for that
The commodore SID and PAULA chip was always superior than the poor chip in the SNES, without the sampling feature in the SID one

@@8squared007 But the Amiga PAULA chip on the amiga is still superior, an octamed track with 32 channels is a banger tho
actual cracking software music
ABSOLUTELY fantastic.
I used this in one of my videos, because it reeks of badass-ness - I miss gauntlet....
best of the best
0:16 Kinda reminds me of Geoff Follin's Ingame Music from Spot (GB)
That's really a nice piece of intro music
Follin for teh WIN! :D
Tim is my dad and geoeff is my uncle i am 9 years old
John Timothy so you have a awesome dad and uncle.
If that is true, tell them that they are awesome!
Gabriel Abramoff it is very well true
I want evidences that the kid is, indeed, Tim Follin's son.
You're such a lucky kid.
That is awesome, sir!
really great
Thank you Legacy Music Hour
The most intense bit tune.

@TearyEyesAnderson Because all you need to know of this game is this song!

@SockShock : hey incredible :D you drew it on an amstrad CPC or an atari ST then converted to CPC screen format mode 0 ?
I'm guessing that Gauntlet 3 is not a real game, as there is NO gameplay footage of it anywhere on youtube.

There is now.
