I have a Dell Latitude E6420 that I run Linux Mint on as regular ride and that does everything I need to do. However, I provide voluntary tech support to patrons of my local public library and all of those folks are running Windows. It's been ages since I've used Windows and that was XP so any help I provide requires lots of research done in the library using their W10 PCs. I managed to use Rufus to create an MBR install flash drive and successfully installed W10 on a separate drive that I can plug into the system drive bay if I need Windows. My plan for W11 was to clean install it side-by-side with W10 so I could boot either version as necessary. I created the install stick with Rufus but was unsuccessful with the install. I tried an install wiping out the W10 instance but that didn't work either. I can probably get by using W10 to research for solutions to W11 problems but I would really like have the W11 instance available on my E6420 either side-by-side or perhaps on a second system drive bay disk. Any chance that the "compability patch" would work? Thanks, Terry
No need for a video, just open a command prompt window as administrator and run "dism /online /get-intl" to know what language is installed in your computer.
This reminds me of the exact same thing as I found with mac OS but there is no difference. Windows 2000 install on unsupported hardware. Took me 2 weeks of work along with custom drivers by it worked there's always back doors into software and if your watching this your in early days of computers & good luck learning you'll never stop BTW that was all done on a 56 kb dialup connection lol 😁

Question: One of the requirements is that you need to have a UEFI BIOS. I have a couple of PCs that support both UEFI and Legacy. I have Win10 Running on a Legacy BIOS. Can I still use this method to upgrade to Win11? (Worst case scenario would be that I would have to backup all of my files, switch to UEFI, and then reinstall Win10.)

My old machine doesn't have SSE 4.2 or Popcnt. I was running windows 11 up until the latest build. It just won't work anymore without those instructions in the CPU. Currently running Windows 10 iot LTSC. but will probably switch over to Linux due to the legal issues associated with running Windows iot. The good news is, thanks to Microsoft's ridiculous requirements. There's a ton of really cheap used and refurbished machines showing up on the market. Some with pretty decent specs too. If you're on a budget and don't specifically require Windows and are ok with giving Linux a go. There's a ton of cheap hardware becoming available as Microsoft drops support for them. Linux users have never had it so good. 😂.
Computers that don't support SSE 4.2 are around 15 years old now, like the Core 2 Duo. Linux has moved to mostly 64- bit only now as well which isn't much different in terms of age. The Windows 11 official requirements are a lot more stringent, as processors only 8 years old are affected (Kaby Lake and earlier).
It will run without sse 4.2 if you install W1 23H2. That'd what I had to do with my oldest laptop. Downloaded a script to get the ISO and installed it using Rufus.
@@Britec09 My laptop doesn't have it as I found out when installing a fresh W11 24H2 onto a new SSD. My old HDD was running W11 23H2 prior to swapping out the disk drives so as I said before I downloaded a script for W11 23H2 and installed the ISO from it onto my SSD. That laptop runs great and like my other old desktop and an old work laptop on 24 H2 also runs great. No issues with updating neither. If SSE 4.2 requirements is not met with older PCs then 24H2 won't install but 23H2 will.
I wonder if this method really keeps all your programs and settings, I have some 22H1 installs on unsupported hardware I'd like to upgrade to at least 23H2. I'm still very hesitant to upgrade to 24H2.

I ran windows 11 on my old Dell T5400 Xeon workstation with issues prior to its release. Currently I have an old HP Z440 running windows 10 pro but will migrate to Openmandriva at some stage. I've had it with windows.
My guess is that Microsoft will turn a blind eye to these methods so people can get hooked to W11 then later it will shut down updates to all the unsupported pcs.

I started on unsupported hardware when Windows 11 was released, and have done that until a month ago on a laptop. Now it's running Linux Mint. I hope that Microsoft will allow to run on unsupported hardware after 14 of october this year. But I have my doubts that this i going to happen, when they have announced 1 year of updates for 30 dollars. I'm not going to pay for that on my no. 2 desktop. My main Windows 10 is hopefully secured for security updates to after 2030.

Win 11 just about OK to use on my other Intel Core i5-4200U Acer laptop with 8GB ram & SSD drive. for doing browsing and being quick enough and CPU not on 100% use all the time.
I upgraded one gen 3 i5 and a clean on another gen 3 i5 that failed the upgrade. Also a laptop gen 3 mobile i5 all with 8 or 16 Gig of ram and SSD's works great and a laptop with the CPU is one gen too old and it had a TPMS on the motherboard.
Just wanted to leave a comment here - been running Windows 11 22H2 (recently upgraded to 23H2) for quite a while on a Dell XPS 13" with a 3rd Gen i7 - no issues so far. Using this laptop as a daily driver. Only quirk is that brightness control sometimes do not work and does work. Battery life isn't too good as expected with the modern OS and also paired with a AX210 card - whole machine is working like a charm.
i think just before windows 10 bites the dust microsoft will release a version of windows 11 for currently unsupported hardware that will mess with all the workarounds people made and cause errors
Be careful, there is no guarantee that MS will allow those unsupported PCs to keep getting security updates after you install Windows 11. They could stop that at any time. I mention this because you are in a business environment.
It will most likely be patched up, then you probably have to buy a new PC or go with Linux or maybe a Mac computer. I hate Mac's since I've tried it once and it sucks. Last time I've used a mac was 13 years ago, and I've never used 1 again. Microsoft patches everything, I'm sure some people might try different ways around the patch if it's patched for unsupported hardware.

I get error "windows server installation has failed" after 37% installation completed. Followed everything you showed in the video.

As long as your current setup is activated you should be fine.
