Wow, my thoughts travelled to Coach Peter, many thanks for this video and that's what I was looking for. I'm 56 & playing great at club tennis and still want to improve. The same way my wish will also travel to you God bless you Happy Healthy & Wise life.

My take on #3. There are the shots you want to have. There are the shots you learn and make in practice. and there are the shots that you have when you walk on the court when you play a match. At 63 that changes for me depending on the day and even throughout the match due to tightness, soreness , fatigue, etc . Being aware and adapting during play is soooo important. BTW as to #2 , years ago when I started missing the shots I owned during a match I used to get frustrated , till I realized it's usually that I was not splitting on the opponents swing , moving to get spacing on the ball or prepping the racket soon enough. Now I just find the problem and fix it .

words of wisdom. totally agree. "find the problem and fix it" is a great mental advise as well IMHO

“Move your feet”? Hardly any rec player I watch moves their feet - because it’s HARD WORK! But I’ve found by making a commitment to do so (and constantly monitoring myself on the court) it actually gets easier. The “Principle of Gradients” should always be used in learning anything, so the “student” can have a succession of wins, not losses. In this case, perhaps try split-stepping on every ball for a minute or two; once accomplished fairly easily, add a minute or two and so on. Hope this helps, because footwork is HUGE in order to progress past a certain point.

I'm 50 and really need to work on my foot work. I think that's the biggest thing keeping me from reaching 4.0 and of course been more consistent. I definitely have to give my ball more height I love hitting very low over the net with very little margin but do hit quite a bit of balls in the net hitting the tape.

People who don’t move their feet have a hard time returning heavy top spin.
