    I'm a life long tennis player and have done all of these tips over the years. The result is being a fit tennis player at 74 years old. I play competitive tennis with players 20, 30 or more years younger than me. These tips really work.

      Preaching to the choir here! All my opponents are at least 20 years younger too (one is 40 years younger and another is 50 years younger!) You are right that those tips work. I’m only 65 but hope to follow in your footsteps. Keep blazing a trail for us youngsters!

    Whoever gives this video a thumbs down is a tennis hater, this knowledge Peter is giving people for free is priceless to anyone who likes to play any sport not just tennis. I have many of Peter's videos and because of his teachings I have helped my team reach districts, I have been asked to play on many different teams and clubs week after week (Doubles or Singles). If you love tennis and want to improve your game Peter is the man you have to listen to in my humble opinion.

    You are someone that I would love to get a lesson from. Everything you said in this video I totally agree with. I am 65 and am playing the best tennis of my life by pretty much doing these things. I made the Canadian 60+ team last year! I’ve only had 4 lessons in my life but I am constantly on the Internet looking for videos like yours with tips for improvement. Discovered shadow swinging last year which, combined with self feed drills, completely revamped my technique for the better. Fitness and strength work off court... essential. Moving the feet... the more steps you take between shots the better a player you are. One thing I would add is to limit the amount of time playing tennis... for sure the goal is to constantly improve even as you age but also to extend the shelf life. So many of my peers play too much and are hampered by nagging overuse injuries. I love tennis so much (you obviously do too) and I never want it to end.

    Thanks Crunch Time.....you are so right about the feet. Prepare and move, gain preparation time. Stay current and practice this stuff...ball machine, shadow strokes, progressions, ect. Love these tips and I do write them down and practice....the ultimate "rally" ball. Also the value of the high deep ball..your .tip #5

    In addition to these excellent suggestions, I would add one more. I have always supplemented my tennis fitness program with cycling. Cycling is a low impact/high aerobic exercise that strengthens legs, lungs and cardio fitness. I still ride 10 to 12 miles a day when I'm not playing tennis and my knees love me for it....

    Good stuff as usual. In the future could you maybe do the series for tennis players that are 70 or older as far as quickness and Fitness. Thanks

    So simple yet so wise. Came back to tennis after a 10 yr break. Thought it would be like riding a bike, it certainly is not! Half a second slow to every ball makes a massive difference. Have to work on your body and your game!

    Here's my tip for you: GET NEW TENNIS PARTNERS!!! It is SO easy to always play the same guy or same gang, same time, each week. You'll be declining if you just do the same old, same old; find new people to play tennis against---find some that are even a half-notch better than you. But playing the same people devolves into "social tennis" which is funnsy tennis, lukewarm tennis.

    • @dccrowther
      @dccrowther 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The flip side of this... I’ve been playing the same guy every week for more than 15 years. We have both improved over the years though he has maintained his edge over me and has probably won 80% of our outings. He is an amazing athlete and I consider myself very lucky that he condescends to play with me. I am retired and he is a very busy academic who appreciates my willingness to play whenever he can get a spare moment. It is a collaboration that I consider the high point of every week. I think your advice is basically good but I also think that if one’s goal is improvement rather than winning, it matters less who the opponent is because you can always work on some aspect of your game no matter who is on the other side of the net.

    Pete, love your channel. I have a question : if one wanted to invest 30 minutes (maybe twice) purely into footwork, which exercises would you prescribe. Skipping? Ladders? What would be your top 3? I want to take more adjustment steps and position myself better to hit the ball. (I am 4.0/4.5)

    "Move your damn feet!" is some kind of "tip" for the over 40? Are you for real??? Is this supposed to help???

    • @ramyg5037
      @ramyg5037 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Moving feet makes you more loose, makes you lose more calories, keeps your movements less stressful when changing directions....Split step in tennis is very important for any age..
