    This is a brilliant video! You've answered a good many of my questions about electrical appliances in a van or SUV. Also, I love your build. It is so clean, uncluttered and modern.

    Thanks for posting the English version. Do you have links to 12v DC powered induction stoves? When search what comes up appears to be AC powered induction stoves units requiring an inverter, not 12v ones. Thx.

      Here’s the link I found online for the 24V version. I haven’t seen a 12V one yet because, at 700W, the current for 12V exceeds 60 amps. Currently, Anderson connectors are limited to 50 amps. You might want to consider setting up a separate 24V system, which would be better suited for high-power devices.

      I have never seen any DC powered induction cooktops here in Europe They’re all 230 AC from what I’ve seen and you run them through your inverter of course. And for a good reason as the current to feed even a (small) 1000W induction cooker on 12V would be in the range of 80 Amps ⚠️

      @ there is a couple with a channel (can’t recall it’s name) that camps around UK in a smaller RV/ van-class B that was cooking on a single burner portable stove top (I think the called it a hob). Although their hob was AC, they explicitly said it was one of very few they had found that did NOT surge up to the top draw to start of 1800w no matter what you set it for, which is beyond the inverter range of many earlier or smaller/less expensive power stations. The only indication stovetop I’ve found for sell in US that does not surge to highest power when first turned on is a NuWave with 600w/900w/1300w, but it is AC requiring an inverter. That works because I mostly cook at medium or low-medium temps.

    You nicely present a makes-sense solution that most van electral system people don't mention (probably because DC appliance diversity was much more limited in the past). I think many people can benefit from your example. Good job. Users need to be fully aware of the low wattage of DC appliances (which you mentioned), but the required longer preps times can be accommodated with simple planning (which you also mentioned).

    Speaking of cooking rice. Do soak your rice overnight in water and it will take only about half the time to cook. As a long time camper, Ive done this for years and it saves on a lot of power.

    If there were 48V systems in cars, trucks, campers, boats and even smaller homes there were hardly any need for AC power at all. But maybe we will switch to battery powered appliances anyway.

      I’m using a 24-volt, 2.52 kWh lithium iron battery system. It features three 10-amp cigarette lighter sockets, a 50-amp Anderson connector, an MPPT solar input, and an aviation plug input. It’s a custom-designed product, and since I skipped the inverter, it’s more compact.

    Here in the U.S. most vehicles have 12v power outlets, not 24v. The "Solar generators" also have only 12v power taps. Do the Solar Generators (battery back-ups) have 24v taps in your country? Taobao does not appear to have English version of website. Maybe Alibaba? Would love to get a 24v induction cooker. Thanks for video.

    • @simeiworker
      @simeiworker  17 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yeah, trucks in Europe and Asia run on 24 volts, so there are a lot of 24-volt DC devices designed for drivers. For solar panels, you just need two 12-volt panels connected in series to make a 24-volt system. As for energy storage batteries, if you don’t include an inverter, they’re much smaller and don’t have heat dissipation issues.

    Thank you for this informative video! How do you manage all the grease/oil/steam getting absorbed into your car headliner and all other fabrics? I want to cook in my car but afraid it will attract bears in bear country as those odors linger for quite some time. Hoping you have found a solution!

    • @simeiworker
      @simeiworker  4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      When cooking inside the car, the key is using low-power DC appliances and mostly opting for “slow cooking” methods. This minimizes steam and oil smoke. Opening the windows slightly for ventilation and keeping the cooking area away from the car’s interior decorations can also help.

    probably the most important point for me, inverters are a wear item. they all seem to burn out after a certain amount of kwh is ran thru them. obviously heat is important, but sometimes they just fail, usually when you need them most in the middle of nowhere.
    I have a video on my channel about how i reduced the power consumption of my dc fridge by around 80%, to the point where its so cheap to use at home it saves energy as a drink fridge coz i open my main fridge less often.

    There is a reason why high power devices use 230V~ and not 12 V=. Yes, an inverter is ineffective. But the very high currents necessary for 12V=, it's best to keep the wire very, very short. Therefore put battery and inverter side by side. Appliances further away should use higher voltages, like 230V~.
    Most cigarette lighter sockets work safely and reliably up to 120 Watts.

    • @simeiworker
      @simeiworker  18 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yes, that’s exactly how it is. However, truck systems in Asia and Europe use 24-volt batteries, which has led to the development of many appliances specifically designed for truck drivers. Of course, their wattage isn’t very high. For example, an induction cooker typically runs at over 1200 watts on AC power, but the DC versions we can buy are usually limited to 600 watts. Other appliances, like kettles, are often only around 200 watts. From another perspective, having more time outdoors makes it easier to adapt. While it takes a bit longer to use these appliances, it helps conserve battery power, which I personally find acceptable.

      If you use the correct sized inverter they have less loss. And if you only use 220v for only the high wattage equipment and shut it down outside the investment is not need to 24 cooking equipment. I have it split. continues equipment on 12v and the microwave, stove and coffeemaker on 220v. So the inverter runs max 1 hour a day.

      When cooking rice, it starts with high power to boil off the water, then switches to low power to keep warm and steam the rice. It works just like an AC-powered rice cooker, where most of the cooking time relies on steaming.
