I've only had 1 car in my lifetime because I never felt the need for it personally but I got questioned and STILL get questioned why don't I have or want a car despite all the good that I did and do with my money. Having an apt instead of a house also got me the raised eyebrow. I used to care but now I could care less.
I honestly think I first began watching this channel because I thought hey, it’s a guy out in the mountains somewhere with beautiful views behind him. I’ll listen to whatever he’s gonna say…Now it’s comforting whenever I hear him say “what’s up it’s your boy, Tim”! After being forced to move my apartment in my workshop, a year and a half ago, I’ve really began to rethink my life in terms of material possessions. The moves really brought to the forefront, the fact that I was owned by my possessions rather than me owning them. It’s a slow change in quite a challenge to be very honest but I’m not going to give up. Thank you, Tim.
I've resisted what society has wanted me to do for many years now. I'm 53 and have never really liked other people's ideas for my life, so I have always chosen my own. It's not always easy, but I know I'm being my authentic self and I can be responsible for my mistakes and successes equally. Great video, Tim. Thank you.
Since I was a kid I never saw myself or wanted to be when I grew up working in a corporate environment in an office in front of a computer wearing a suit and tie, or living in a mansion in a gated community surrounded by golf courses what a lot of people would consider success, I always wanted to be outdoors in the wilderness which was and is what makes me happy.
I just want to be comfortable, basic needs met with enough to do the things I want to do like travel, crafts, and meeting like minded people. I simply want to breathe!❤
Tim, you absolutely *have* helped me to realize that turning away from the pursuit/trappings of success is okay. You ARE a light. Thank you. Shine on, friend.
Great message Tim. I've been thinking about these things for a long time and have come to the same conclusions. Society has sold us a bill of lies and many are waking up to it. Personally I've never fit in to mainstream society. The usual things that motivate people....status, possesions, workaholic, money....just don't for me. I'm one of those that just wants to walk around the woods. And actually have been paid at times to do just that. Anyway, great message. At this point we all need to reassess what matters most. Working a meaningless job to feed the machine ain't it.
I retired last year at 56, after being overly stressed out at the point of illness from my 9-5, I said take this job and shove it! Not worth it at all. I was already living a holistic health and wellness lifestyle but now I have more time to focus on my mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual health and fitness! More joy and peace!
Man, you are so right! We punish ourselves with success which is not for everybody. We were just trained to want it without a question. It’s based on scare of shame only. I’m so glad to see that people waking up. Thank you!
Success is for everybody! Depends on what your definition of success is. Being mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically healthy with peace, joy, and oneness with God is success to me! Along with added financial blessings on top of that without the burdens and stressors of the 9-5 life is success to me! My friend.🥰
You're so right. Personal development, not achievement and possessions, has always been my goal. It does bother me sometimes when people judge me based on what I don't have, but I'm working on rising above it. To be able to do that really is an art.
12 years of school and 4 years of college, and I need more programming before I can teach anyone? You tube is the future… keep sharing your message Tim!
I love the feeling of not caring about the thoughts and judgements of miserable never ending success chasing belittling others, soul type people... I'm happy and unsuccessful those free flying geese came thru on time ....🎉🎉🎉 I'm 51 and very aware of our societal follies...🎉🎉❤ you Tim
No car nor eat out etc everyday (dont feel need to spend) and perfectly fine that way. I smile when people say, how do you do it good for some when I take time off work few months to travel - funny how this is frowned upon yet they never question daily spending eating out, coffee, cars etc... because that is the 'normal' thing to do for success in society.
Yeah, human beings often put too much pressure on being successful... whatever that means to them. I recently decided to stop caring about that and just live so that I can be happy and at peace. I took the leap to move into my car and stop living with my mom and her horrible boyfriend after 6 years. I have been so much happier, and the universe has suddenly dropped one of my dream jobs of working on a cruise ship in my lap. Love your videos and what you stand for. Keep up the great work.
Preach 👏👏 Thank you for helping us understand whats really important & not what has been programmed (& constant marketing) to us on what is important; it takes consciousness & effort to achieve that kind of unconditioning.
I just found your channel and subscribed. I can dig it, and to some of us "success" is defined completely outside of societal norms. I've been in positions of financial abundance, and also nearly broke, and I'm grateful to say that freedom of movement, free time, and simple things offer me the most successful feeling.
Currently it's Me, Myself and I, my bicycle and good ol leg power. Traveled from New Jersey on down the coast to South Carolina so far, after journeying out west to Arizona by vehicle. The Beachfronts, Forests and Mountains make me feel right at home. Peaceful Indeed.
This is healthy conversation right here my friend . Sad part is when you don’t have a bunch of money ( even if you have a home , car and food and extra for some fun ) but not enough to flash around and look good on social media then you are broke and it’ll be family too that cuts you down
I always always make sure I have funds available, the joy I get from financially helping out my mother is much more than the joy I get from buying a fancy watch or getting drunk
Amen brother. The Word Of God says that if we have food enough to eat and a roof over our heads, to be content. I'm addition, having less stuff often means having less debt and worry.
I live in Indiana, and everyone drives either a Jeep or a big truck. But they can't pay their rent on time or afford groceries. Groceries are expensive as hell, but shouldn't that be the priority over living up to society's expectations?
Yep. I broke my back for years and got little to nothing in return. It’s like my existence is worthless to society so forget everybody. I’m chillin while they never get a chance to sleep from chasing the “American dream”
Thank you. We face a lot of pressure to stay busy all the time. Success to me has become figuring out how to save a little at a time while remaining fed and housed, but also to afford the luxury of time when I need to rest. It has taken sacrifice, to be sure, but mainly it’s been about prioritizing myself and paying attention to the signals my body and psyche send me.
Absolutely love this video. Although I would consider myself to be quite ambitious, it does help to question the why behind my doing. I've had to turn down opportunities that did not truly speak to the joy in my heart, but rather would have looked good to others on paper. It's tough, because of the ambition and wanting of "success", but you're right, it is not everything, and in fact, it's hardly anything. I really appreciate you and the wisdom and comfort your videos hold. Thank you!
Literally! So many ppl & family members stopped messing with me because I lost my car lol & I’m currently in the process of buying another cause I need one but the absolute relief I felt of not having to worry about scrambling to make those payments was amazing😭.
Its funny how people board the ego train and off they go. They only take the occasional break for a vacation but they must keep going. Gotta impress. You must drive the nice car, have a boat, have a great body, vacation somewhere exotic. If you can fit it in you may even find time to attend church (Cristmas and Easter). Thats the crazy world we live in today.
My greatest success was not becoming a money slave to the system, having lots of free time while being an abject failure in the eyes of society. I take it as a encouragement given the ugly mess capitalismm has made of just about everything.
Thank you for all you do Tim. You are my favorite person on TH-cam and I haven’t super chatted in a while so I wanted to help and support your channel and am really annoyed at people who said there was a mountain lion in the background. Thanks for this thought-provoking video brother. I've been feeling this pressure recently. I know it's a symptom of the Western capitalist structure we live under, but it's still tough to rewire even with that understanding. One step at a time I guess!
In my humble opinion, this advice is "nice" to hear when times are good, but when times are bad, which they will be very soon (economically speaking) then people with no assets will regret not working to achieve anything. Just my opinion. You made a lot of great points in this video, I just wanted to put that out there.

@ all the best!
My friend.🥰
There is literally one definition of success in western culture. Anything else is unacceptable.
“Since I’m happy, I don’t care”..🤷🏻♀️ 👍🏽 ❤
Thanks Tim!
😂😂😂😂😂 great men
You're so right. Personal development, not achievement and possessions, has always been my goal. It does bother me sometimes when people judge me based on what I don't have, but I'm working on rising above it. To be able to do that really is an art.
my boy Tim should write a book 😀
People don’t read books much anymore
People don’t really read that much anymore
When he does I'm passing it on to my young daughter.
Cant be more clear and straightforward in your argumentation, i concur 100% cheers
Bro even the geese agreed with your sentiment..😂..thanks for another great video..Tim Wood Talk..🎉
Absolutely one of the best most positive videos I've seen in a long time. I'm new to your channel, I'm glad I found you. Thank you.
Thanks so much! Welcome to the channel!
Amen Brother and a Happy and Peaceful New Year 2025 🙏🎉🎉
One of my favorite quotes of all time, cant remember who said it. “Your problem isnt that youre poor, its that youre bad at it”
No car nor eat out etc everyday (dont feel need to spend) and perfectly fine that way. I smile when people say, how do you do it good for some when I take time off work few months to travel - funny how this is frowned upon yet they never question daily spending eating out, coffee, cars etc... because that is the 'normal' thing to do for success in society.
SOOOO good : ) Thanks Timothy!
All we have to do is get from womb to tomb and your point makes a lot of sense
It’s my mission!
@TimothyWard A worthy mission my friend. And you do it well. 👍
Tim, True philosopher ...👍
You are on to something. I don't like hustle culture and the emphasis we place on money. I have no heirs and don't care if I am ever wealthy.
I find that if I am happy and less stressed, that I can help others more. This channel helps others!❤
I want to like this video 5 times
Glad I found this Gentleman.
Amen brother. The Word Of God says that if we have food enough to eat and a roof over our heads, to be content. I'm addition, having less stuff often means having less debt and worry.
They were very good at selling that particular lie. ❤
The sold us materialized slavery
Tim, write these down in a book format, I will buy it. I want to have these in one reading
👍🏾
Love your outdoor videos and minimalism is the way to go. And being a Nomad does free the soul to travel . . .
Very wise words. Subscribed
You are so cool. Geese are a sign of goodness.
Older you get, who gives a sh*t what people think.
Thank you!
You are spot on! Please do more on this subject.
Simply put..You decide what success means for you! Don’t allow society or others define your success.. Your success is YOUR business, not theirs!❤
Literally! So many ppl & family members stopped messing with me because I lost my car lol & I’m currently in the process of buying another cause I need one but the absolute relief I felt of not having to worry about scrambling to make those payments was amazing😭.
Many "trappings of success" are just *traps.*
Hence wallstreet got many slaves.
@@aswad1371 Yeeup.
I LOVE your perspective ❤
I make it a point to listen to at least one of your videos per day and have shared with others. ❤️
You nailed it
! We do ir for others.
Your topics are real and your talking in front of the camara skills are second to none. Keep up the great work
Thank you! I will! 👍🏾
That background is "chef's kiss".
it’s like wanting to be successful can be a form of people pleasing
Its funny how people board the ego train and off they go. They only take the occasional break for a vacation but they must keep going. Gotta impress. You must drive the nice car, have a boat, have a great body, vacation somewhere exotic. If you can fit it in you may even find time to attend church (Cristmas and Easter).
Thats the crazy world we live in today.
My greatest success was not becoming a money slave to the system, having lots of free time while being an abject failure in the eyes of society. I take it as a encouragement given the ugly mess capitalismm has made of just about everything.
It’s SUPER REFRESHING TO SEE YOUR VIDEOS TIM!! 😊
Thank you for all you do Tim. You are my favorite person on TH-cam and I haven’t super chatted in a while so I wanted to help and support your channel and am really annoyed at people who said there was a mountain lion in the background. I really hope you are okay 👍 Tim and will be okay ✅. Praying for you and wishing you all the best.
Thank you Praveen! I really appreciate you my friend!
@@TimothyWard you are okay 👍 if I’m correct? Just checking. Thank you 🙏
Love ur content, Sir.
Thank you!
You have really deep thoughts in your videos. Thank you sir!
U r so strong man miss those lives hopefully I will join soon ❤
That’s purity Tim we’ve deviated from our natural purpose just the regular creatures. We think very highly of ourselves but ultimately we’re just ordinary. Love your show
Thanks for this thought-provoking video brother. I've been feeling this pressure recently. I know it's a symptom of the Western capitalist structure we live under, but it's still tough to rewire even with that understanding. One step at a time I guess!
One step at a time…👍🏾
In my humble opinion, this advice is "nice" to hear when times are good, but when times are bad, which they will be very soon (economically speaking) then people with no assets will regret not working to achieve anything. Just my opinion. You made a lot of great points in this video, I just wanted to put that out there.
Excellent talk today Tim🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thank you!
Thank you for reminding us to enjoy our lives. My dog looked so confused when she heard the geese, it freaked her out 😂
😂😂😂
This is exactly the video i needed to watch because my car is what’s taking the most of my pay 😊
