    The flip out tabs that hold it up in the tool box... I would worry about that maybe being a weak point vs the original insert even though it is a little smaller. I also feel like you loose too much space with the gaps around the sides of the newer trays. It appears to be a decent set up, so don't get me wrong, personally I would rather have more versatility and options such as the packout set up!! Dewalt does make a sturdy looking set up though. I love the many options of the Milwaukee packout better. I will be getting craftsman versastack soon to go with the main versastack tool box I already have! This is just for a smaller and cheaper style set up that I can use. Plus I hear that you can mix the versastack and T-stack and they connect together!!

    • @jeffostroff
      @jeffostroff  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Remember there is a weight limit on this tray of 11 pounds. That's probably as much weight in tools as you can get to fit on it. So each tab is supporting no more than 4 pounds. It's doable.

    The picture shown at 5:00 of the person carrying them seems off. -Wouldn’t they need to use the bottom-most handles? They don’t actually clip together when outside of a case, right?- After using these for a bit, I finally noticed the four small yellow notches on the left and right sides (two on each side) near the bottom, which is what the handles from the lower trays clip onto. You kind of need to pull the handle up and away from the tray above it, then push it over the yellow notch to clip it in, but once it’s in, it feels pretty solid. Two deep and three shallow trays in a tower with only about 5 pounds net feels just fine.

I want to transfer that 300+ piece $72 mechanics set from Lowes to the small trays so I can take it with me when I am rolling my TS2.0 Medium Box. Also waiting on the Craftsman mats to drop to $10 so I can buy a bunch and cut them up for home made tool organizing in those trays. On the half boxes that come inside of the small TS2.0 case, pretty much useless, especially if you leave the dividers in place.

    Is it possible that DeWalt made the side walls of the trays irregular shaped to make them more rigid? Seems that a longer straight section would flex inward more easily with weight on it. It does suck to lose real estate in the box, and for some of my 1.0 TS boxes, I built some thin plywood trays which filled the entire interior. I am certain they store more than the newer trays, even though the 2.0 trays won't fit. Given the fact the 1.0 boxes don't work with 2.0 trays, i am glad I didn't buy many of the older boxes.
    Overall, it is still a good way to gain versatility with the boxes, as my tool setups evolve over time.

    Overall the tray is sturdy but those black tabs or wings that hold the tray at the top of the box are pretty janky. They show the wieght capacity of the tray but those tabs are a horrible design. Just the absolute minimum necessary for what is otherwise a very beefy box. I have to return my tray because those tabs should stay extended when pulled out so you can place it back in the box. But two of them just flop down making it a royal pain to try and place back in the box. If they were old or broken you could rig something.

    Shame on Dewalt for making their 1.0 boxes obsolete with the 2.0 and not making them backward compatible. I don't think they are as good as the Rigid or Milwaukee anyway. I have both the Dewalt and Rigid tool box systems and wish I would have gone with the Milwaukee Packout. I have Dewalt 20v tools but many of the Milwaukee 12v tools. They are good for 80% of my work. Judging by the quality of their 12v tools if I wasn't so heavily invested in Dewalt I would have gone with Milwaukee. I have sent in both Dewalt and Milwaukee tools for repair and for me the process was much better with Milwaukee.

    These trays are pretty useless… they need a 2.0 drawer system like the 1.0 had and a compatible tool bag like Milwaukee has….

      No they do the job they are designed for, hold a bunch of hand tools at the top of the storage box.
