Thank you this video, it helped me out a lot. I raised the deck rear end to access the transmission fill plug, since it had leaked a lot of transmission oil from a bad seal. I had done this before to get the gas tank out to clean it. I know its not the correct way, but you cant even see any creases from lifting up the rear end and its much easier. I used a 12V pump to suck about 1 quart out of the transmission. Next year I will drop the rear end to get to the transmission, open it up and clean the filter and the lower magnet. I was under time pressure this time around. To check the oil level from the top, I used a small palm screwdriver with permanent marker line at exactly 7/8ths of an inch which is the level to fill to from the top. You DON'T want to over fill it. just place the palm screw driver in the fill hole and note where the oil comes. to. I used the cap from the trans oil to add slowing till I got exactly to the marked spot. Make sure the spin the wheels backwards and forwards a few times as you are filling.

Thanks for the video. I was given a tractor with this problem so hopefully 50 bucks or so and I can have a mower!

A small tip for next time. To make it easier on yourself, use a couple of drywall screws and screw them into the old seal. They act like small handles and make it easier to tug on hard-to-reach seals. Something that I've learned from watching others here on good ole You Tube. :)

Slane583 That is a great idea. I wish I would have done that. It would have helped to take the old seal out. Thanks for watching!!!

No problem. Gotta love veteran mechanics with unconventional solutions to minor problems. :)

With mower deck off, remove black fill plug on top of transmission, with brake on belt will be loose, so you can move it out of way, then I use an old , cleaned out 946 ml gear oil jug that has a fill spout to fill transmission, you don’t have to remove trans to fill it, then once full, just push tractor 4 to 5 feet forward and back wards with freewheeler in to bleed it, recheck oil level and put black cap back on

Thank You so much for this video. I have to replace the seals on my Troy-Bilt Super Bronco Lawm Tractor. It has the same Trans.

Easy way to do keyway is put wheel on, line up grooves and slide key stock in

Nice video I see you made sure not to scratch the shift and 20:05 then you took a pipe with no protection and tap that on the seal I would put some of that electrical tape on the end of that pipe for protection

I made a funnel hose combo that would fit into the transmission fill hole. Getting the plug and cover on and off took a few tries but at least I didn't have to drop the rearend.
