    That fight on the 33 was epic! Great catch!

      Sure was! My fishing rod was a little under powered, but sure did make for a great battle

    You have a lot better language than I do when I miss a laker! Great video again!

      I’ve got some nieces/nephews watching, gotta keep my cool! Plus, I’ve lost so many fish in my life I’m not even surprised/angry when it happens anymore 😂

    Tighten you drag set hook then loosen drag. Those trout have the hardest mouths!!!! Nice Trout!!!

      Yup! It took me a while to figure that out - I miss a lot less trout now

      Thank you!! This was one of the best ice fishing trips I’ve ever been on-I can’t wait to go back!

    Awesome catches. I spend most of my winter cross country skiing and snowshoeing-you’re convincing me to add some lake trout fishing.

    • @therealfarwater
      @therealfarwater  ปีที่แล้ว

      I am surprised, of all people, you would need any convincing! So much fun, second only to catching them out of a canoe on open water.

    Awesome! Wild how much less ice there is this year, compared to last.

    • @therealfarwater
      @therealfarwater  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, and I’m loving it! So much easier to move around on the ice, too, with the lack of fresh snow cover.

    Great video Eric! Very inspiring, and especially for those with an adventurous spirit! Not sure I will huff it that far into Basswood, but maybe once I get a few shorter trips under my belt I will try it. What a great bunch of fantastic fish!

      Thank you! We definitely should have been lighter with our gear for that long trek, but you know how it goes...I would like to go back fast and light and see how quickly I can get in there. Skiing, under the right conditions, I think I could get there in just under 3 hours, which would make it more realistic.

    Incredible! that was nerve racking watching you catch that big togue

    • @therealfarwater
      @therealfarwater  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! I was nervous, too! I knew I’d need to be Lucky to land such a large fish on light line (12lbs) through an 8” hole

      @@therealfarwater caught 2. No lake trout yesterday but got a burbot and unfortunately a fat 24.25" walleye. I say unfortunately because I was fishing in 58 feet of water and the barotrauma did it in. I would have loved to release it.

      @@differentfins that is a bummer but it’s better than releasing it to die

    I hooked a 33 inch lake trout in the narrows right before Bailey Bay in May. Maybe the same fish? Was my PB.

    • @therealfarwater
      @therealfarwater  ปีที่แล้ว

      Awesome! Could be the same fish, we’ll never know!

    nice videos... that is part of the route I plan on taking winter 2024... just wondering if you get cell signal out there? very nice trout by the way...

    • @therealfarwater
      @therealfarwater  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you!! We got cell signal out on the lake, but not back in the woods. We had enough reception that one of the nights we live streamed the Vikings game on my buddy’s phone 🤣🤣

      @@therealfarwater Hey Eric,,, it was nice to meet you and your friend on moose lake a few weeks ago and thanks so much for the info... I decided to hang around moose and new founder lake... next year thinking about taking the teardrop camper and setting it up in parking lot and use as a base camp. (called ranger and they said I could do this) that way I can go out for 3 or 4 days,,, come back and refresh at camper and move to different lake and go out again. take care and leave me a fish or 2... Michael

    What brand and model of electronics do you use?
    Thanks!

    • @therealfarwater
      @therealfarwater  ปีที่แล้ว

      Humminbird helix 5 g3 gps with autochart paired with a 10ah Dakota lithium battery that will run 3-4 full days (35-40hrs) on a single charge

    Where do you buy those tubes ? I find it hard to find them.

    • @therealfarwater
      @therealfarwater  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I got these at my local baitshop Arrowhead Outdoors. Fleet Farm and other big box stores that carry Northland products should have them

    Is a 6” nils a good size to bring?

    • @therealfarwater
      @therealfarwater  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For most lake trout I’ve caught through the ice, the 6” is sufficient. If you plan to catch fish approaching that 5lbs mark (24” or more) I would HIGHLY recommend sizing up to an 8”. You only need to lose one really nice fish before you’re happy to spend the money to upgrade. I lost a couple of good 6-8lbs fish on a trip using a 6” auger and I vowed to never let that happen again. Also, if you fish outside when it’s super cold out, you will deal with your hole icing up, which turns a 6” hole into a 4.5” pretty quick, which further limits the fish you can land easily

    You need a rod with more back bone to be able to set the hook. You were dropping those ones in the beginning of the video because your rod has no back bone . Good video tho.

    • @therealfarwater
      @therealfarwater  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know! Until this trip my biggest laker through the ice was 26” and a vast majority I catch are 18-22”. I also rarely use baits over 1oz so this rod is about perfect for 95% of the fish I catch. This was a brand new rod for me-I hemmed and hawed about it and even talked with other fisherman I know who use Della Bay rods and even the owner of the company and we decided this Rippin Rattle rod was best suited for me. I think this year I will invest in one of their medium heavy setups for bigger bait and bigger fish. Thanks for watching, I appreciate the support!
