Spring Flooding in the Boundary Waters | Lake Trout Fishing | Wilderness Camping

We head out for a quick 3-day trip (May 30-June 2, 2022) immediately following spring flooding in the boundary waters. We spend our time lake trout fishing and wilderness camping at one of the coolest campsites I've visited in my time exploring the backcountry.
A long winter of near-record snowfall, bitter cold and excess lake ice come to an abrupt end around May 10th when months of temps below 40 degrees finally come to an abrupt end. All of the lake ice and snow cover melt rapidly when temperatures climb to the 70's. We are witnessing the aftermath of that rapid snowmelt and flooding in our Boreal backyard.
Traveling via river system and lake, we get to witness firsthand the impact water makes on this landscape. A blown out beaver dam, flooded portages, snapped-off trees, and raging rivers are abundant on this trip. What an incredible time to be visiting the wilderness.
