My pressure automatically reads 160/90 when I go to the doctor, at home it's in the mid 140s over mid 80s. The Dr. prescribed Losartan; took it for a month and then asked myself "why?".
I then came across this video and learned about flaxseed, bought a pound and a flour mill and started putting 3Tbs in my morning smoothie, after 1 week I was down to 120/70. First time something like this has worked for me. Thanks

My mom takes her blood pressure every day and she’s fine. She goes to the doctor and then it shoots up. He put her on medication. One of the side effects has been loosing hair - shes 88 and had beautiful hair. She’s in perfect health and now she’s on meds just bc she’s scared of going to the doctor. When I went with her I just told her to breathe and smile and made the nurse take her pressure twice and it went down! It’s ridiculous how fast they throw meds at people.

Fortunately my sister is a nurse and had my Mom take her own blood pressure three times a day. Her pressure was fine. Hi Elizabeth, I have the same problem. I changed to a D.O. M.D. she is great. She told me kt is 'White Coat' syndrome and told me to keep a daily log (just like you mom does) and bring it when I come for my physicals. If I have any unusual symptoms to come see her. Meds were never mentioned. She also told me to bring in my cuff and they would see if there are any deviations from the office cuff. BTW, I am 75. Mine usually runs a bit high. I read about beet powder. I take that plus ground flaxseed (like Bob & Brad do) I agree, it did help me. It is natural and can't hurt. Sometimes you need to steer the ship and just tell the doctor you prefer trying things like diet changes and other natural methods first. Give ita shot... good luck. P in Florida

I am a visiting nurse. When my first BP reading is high, I assess for causes like medication, pain, anxiety, and need to use the restroom. After some time, and correcting the possible causes, I ask my patients to close their eyes, deep breathe trhough the nose a few times, relax and remain still. This usually brings that blood pressure down up to 10 15 points.

    • @cindyskillman544
      @cindyskillman544 3 ปีที่แล้ว +28

At Mayo, they do five BP readings, drop the highest & lowest then average the rest-and also usually council deep breathing and relaxation. Of course that's an automatic setting on the machine; not something readily available to home health. The point is, BP readings are a very delicate thing and your approach is so much better than what one sees in the usual doctor's office visit.

Also, take your blood pressure regularly at home for more accurate readings. The machines are not expensive and it's worth the money.

    • @cherylh4688
      @cherylh4688 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

@Nora Zelaya I can appreciate this approach, Nurse Nora, but can you really think of that lowered pressure as an accurate one for them? I can understand why one might be skeptical of an unusually high reading while on an infrequent visit to a doctor's office, bcz of the stress associated w being in that location. And so it would make sense to want to calm the person & then take additional readings.
But these causes you mention - "medication, pain, anxiety, and need to use the restroom" - aren't they more common, typical, everyday factors, & therefore, the high reading indicative of where their pressure usually is? Wouldn't the lower reading after so many relaxation techniques actually be the false reading & not as indicative of their true average pressure?

I was watching a cardiologist who pointed out that part of the problem is the changing goal-posts, and the fact that the things we worry about with high blood pressure are only loosely correlated with that number.
For example, in the 1970s a healthy blood pressure was thought to be 100+ your age in years. For me that would mean, in the 70s my blood pressure, 140/90, was perfectly within healthy bounds. I’m 59, so my top number at 159 was considered healthy in the 79s.
But I’ve studied statistics to an intermediate level - not an expert but more than most. As we age - regardless of blood pressure, mortality/chance of dying increases. If our blood pressure increases as we age and mortality increases as we age, someone who only has a basic understanding of statistics will think the blood pressure is what kills you, even if blood pressure just increases with age but does not affect mortality in and of itself.
Then when he started digging into the efficacy of blood pressure medicines - not in reducing blood pressure, but in reducing mortality - the numbers are not good. Blood pressure medicines only seem to statistically help 1 in 20 users of those medicines.
I’m not a doctor, but the moving goalposts - especially as overall mortality has increase instead of dropped in the US - has me not all that sure blood pressure is the thing I had always thought.
Bob and Ray are great, but I have severe qualms about the medical industry. Make blood pressure guidelines more restrictive - what’s the harm? And it increases the number of paying patients!
This is a major problem with American medical practices.

my sister had told me that they lowered the numbers considered to indicate high blood pressure, and so the medical establishment is prescribing more and more b.p. medicine... apparently a bit higher b.p. is normal for older adults... so we have to use our common sense, and gather info from various sources, not just those approved by doctors who are incentivized by the pharmaceutical industry

Sunlight, fresh air, and grounding (bare feet in the grass) did wonders for my blood pressure. Strange that my doctor never mentioned this while writing scripts for unnecessary drugs. I did not tell the doc I quit taking his drugs on my own and lowered my blood pressure from 150/90 without meds to less than 120/80 without drugs consistently for years now. Finally the cardiologist said there was no reason for me to come back any more. The receptionist said I was the first person in her 20 years working there that was released with out dying or moving. Message - healthy people are bad customers.

I was advised to relax for several minutes before checking, and to also average multiple readings. I've also seen a direct correlation between the size of my gut and the numbers on the machine.

For a lot of people, hypertension is connected to insulin levels. If you get your insulin levels under control, you are likely to see improved blood pressure. I found this out by accident. Through routine labs, I found out that my sugars were too high and I have insulin resistance, so I made some dietary changes. Went on the ketogenic diet with intermittent fasting, and started taking Ceylon Cinnamon supplements daily. Well, not only did my blood sugar drop, but so did my blood pressure, which I was not expecting. I went from 140/90 to 122/80. I haven't seen it that low in more than a decade.

I ground flaxseeds myself and eat them in steel cut oatmeal every morning to help with lowering my cholesterol. Didn't know it helped with blood pressure too. That's a bonus. I also walk 150 mins minimum a week, sometimes more. That lowered my total cholesterol from 257 to 185 and LDL 159 to 99 in 3 months. Walking also keeps my blood pressure in the normal range. High blood pressure that is hard to control can have deeper causes. After 15 years of impossible to control blood pressure (on three different meds, it was 150/100 most of the time), combined with dangerously low potassium, I was diagnosed with primary aldosteronism - a hormonal imbalance caused by a benign tumor in an adrenal gland, that wrecked my sodium/potassium balance. No amount of exercise or diet or aids or whatever can treat such a condition! The doctor put me on spironolactone (a drug that would be actively dangerous for most people), and my blood pressure dropped to 120/80! After two weeks on the “good meds”, I felt like I could punch an elephant! And a month from now, I’m getting the broken adrenal gland removed, and my blood pressure will be *cured*. I am beyond excited!

It's been incredible. I cannot even describe how much better I feel. My potassium levels are totally normal now, my BP is around 117/78 most of the time (still on one BP med for now, but I don't think it's even needed). It has cured other, seemingly unrelated chronic conditions as well! Since my surgery a few months ago, I've lost another 15 pounds, started running, and can now do a 5k.
I strongly encourage ANYONE who is experiencing hard-to-control high blood pressure and low potassium to get tested for primary aldosteronism. I think it is widely underdiagnosed, and it's so easy to treat once diagnosed correctly.

I did four things: (1) Gave up sugar and processed foods (e.g., no sweets and if it comes out of can (other than tuna in water), box or ready made, then I don't eat it. Fresh vegetables, fruits and lean meats. (2) Lowered my salt intake and exercise daily for 1-2 hours. and (3) I also use ground flax seeds and chia seeds in my plain yogurt daily. (4) Meditate which is mostly deep breathing exercises (e.g., breath in counting to four, and breathing out firmly counting to four) several times a day.
I think some or all of those lowered my blood pressure without medication. I did lose pounds of visceral fat as well changing a protuding belly into a much flatter one.

@@salhaddad5 The simple answer is I can feel it. Normal at home. Get to the office, heart rate goes up. Body temp rises. Hands sweat. Doctors tell you your BP is too high; BP, pulse, everything gets worse. Then you get someone working there who has seen anxiety before and they tell you its normal which you already knew. They take your BP at the end of the visit and although its still probably higher than a normal BP its much better than the first reading.
I never set out to get empirical evidence of this happening to me bc I already know it to be 100% true. It is also a very common thing to happen to not only myself but many other people. So the need to prove it just isn't there.

My husband cut out sugar in order to lose weight. First thing, before even losing any weight, his high blood pressure came way down and has stayed down. He still uses a LOT of salt. The sugar intake was the only thing he changed. If he goes off the wagon and eats a lot of sugar, BP goes up again. So I googled it and apparently, recent studies are backing up the correlation between sugar and high BP. I'm guessing it has a lot to do with individual body chemistry.
BTW, several years ago I started taking freshly ground flax seed because I heard how it was good for so many things. I started getting stomach cramps after using it for about a year. A couple of weeks after that, projectile vomiting. Took me a while to figure out that it was the flax seed causing it because I had already been taking it for a year before developing a reaction. I do want to try the breathing techniques. Thank you!

The Germ Theory was never actually proven to be 100% accurate, yet the trillion dollar medical industry is entirely based on that theory. What's the CAUSE of death in people with this "virus"? Does their brain explode? Does their heart stop beating? The CAUSE of death is still pneumonia. Pneumonia is not something you can "catch". You DEVELOP it, just like you develop cancer. It's a biological result of being "scared to death" of something. Think of it like an internal wound that you can't see, but when it starts to heal (when the traumatic event dissipates), the healing of the wounds in the lungs will cause pain, mucus, blood, fever, headaches, coughing, etc. You don't show the symptoms of "disease" until you stop being panicked and afraid. These symptoms usually show up 1-2 weeks after you've relaxed and resolved the upsetting event.
Governments around the world are CAUSING fear frights, thus CAUSING all the illnesses, aka Boogey Virus, in everyone based on an unproven THEORY by one man, Louis Pastaur, who redacted his claim of the germ theory on his death bed, yet no one listened. The US is following an outdated theory that's 100 years old and has not questioned or retested that "science" since then. They believed In witches and curses back then!! Could it be because a Ca-Zillion dollar medical industry profits on following an outdated "science" model?! They've been using the same cancer "treatment" for 80 YEARS. They can't think of something besides POISON in all this time?!?!
So of course, when everyone is allowed to escape the hostage situation the governments have put their people into, and they start relaxing about the "scary virus" that's not in any way transmissible, they will begin their healing phase (get sick), and believe they then have the "scary virus", and more panic will ensue as well as martial law. The longer people allow this government to hold them hostage in their homes, the more severe the "sickness" will be. Western Medicine is pure fraud, and people's lives are destroyed because of it.

I was tested for allergies and discovered the culprit was fragrance, which is in just about everything (laundry soap, shampoo, etc.). As soon as I got "fragrance-free" I was able to breathe with my nose! A miracle!

In my younger years I was an EMTI/Paramedic. Early in my career we were taught to tell our patience inhale through their nose and exhale out their mouth. It would relax them. I didn't understand what it did until a few years back and what it did was increase their Nitro Oxide levels breathing this way. NO lowers blood pressure. Also discovered why Morphine worked differently from patience to patience. It was totally dependent upon the NO levels in their bodies.

@@kenhurley4441 thanks Ken. I am thinking perhaps the reason why the nitric oxide was better for your friends migraines is because there's some thought that migraines are in part caused by spasticity in blood vessels. My thoughts are that nitric oxide would dilate those vessels, relaxing them so that normal blood flow could resume, addressing the cause of problem directly? Lessened problem, less pain. I'm not sure if nitric oxide would be beneficial in all pain circumstances?
Incidentally arugula and beets are two vegetables high in nitric oxide precursors. I would probably choose arugula as it does not contain the oxalates that beets do.

You should stop being a stubborn man and start taking meds. Stroke comes suddenly. Those who get paralyzed and bedridden as a result of stroke are not here or nowhere around you… to tell you how stupidly you are approaching your high blood pressure and gambling your health and independence away. If they could turn time, they would have swallowed bunch of blood pressure pills…so that they wouldn’t be confined to bed or wheelchair in the future. Too late for them. They lost their right to make any choice. But you still have a choice to prevent stroke. For G.. sake, you live in 21 century! Take advantage of science… or you will be lying in the wet diaper and wait half of the day to be cleaned and repositioned. Spend your money on blood pressure drugs instead of your pizza. G.. is helping only those who help themselves. If you do not care about your health…
Btw, blood pressure is the same like atmospheric one. Sit on your hand and look what happens to it. It will turn pale and lifeless. That is what you are doing to your heart, arteries, kidneys… Miracles won’t happen if you continue abusing your health. It is science. Simple like that. Sorry for this lecture, but I worked with stroke patients. All of them wished they had taken blood pressure medications.

So much what ails us can be attributed to what the body is lacking. I often wondered if scurvy was a modern condition if we would have been allowed to know about Vitamin C. That is extreme for an example but speaks to what today's medicine is not about, allowing the body to heal itself. Nature is seldom at the table to officially put problems to rest. May I include iodine in the mix of problem issues? Why? Notice the number of thyroid problems building. Iodized salt was the answer decades ago so it was "naturally" addressed but today the mantra is cut back on salt (BP). Well you say we get a lot of salt in our foods but do you know whether that salt is iodized or not? Only that which you yourself deny yourself because salt is bad for sure has iodine. We could very well easily reduce thyroid cancers and lumps formed on the thyroid if we were given the knowledge to ensure iodine is in our daily vitamin. The body does wonders by itself when it has the tools it needs but lacking those tools too often sets about cancers.
I get so tired of reading where a medical official talking head will refute a natural approach for something because it hasn't yet been "officially" studied and proven. I heard that excuse decades ago so why hasn't there been an OFFICIAL study done? Which brings me to my earlier point, nature can't be patented. (Vitamin C, scurvy) Not all our ills can be solved in the lab, some must be, but with a different mindset some ills may one day leave the lab.

I used to have the same problem, congested nasal passages so I'd breath through my mouth more than I should. The fix was nasal irrigation, using either a little neti pot or a nasal irrigation pump, found at pharmacies, to clear out the nose once a day. Once I started that routine I could breath through my nose normally, and sleep better at night.

I started using the squeeze bottle that uses the same solution as a Neti pot, since around 2008. I had already been using a CPAP for a few years. The CPAP is more effective because my sinuses are clear. I also think the regular sinus rinses help to keep me from getting sick much.

I started taking Quecerten and NAC. My nasel passages are completely clear. Never knew they could be so clear. Started taking as a Covid preventer. Cleared the nasal area up and I suspect the lungs also. Nothing but great comments by users on utube which I agree with.

Hello Guys , hope all is well with you and bob... I just turned 69 and my pressure has been 130/80 ,I walk everyday for 30 minutes , eat vegtables , chicken, fish, egg, soups, fruit. My downfall was popcorn , salted cashews, everything bagle seasoning , I really dont salt shaker my foods. The past couple monthe , I noticed a spike in my BP , my dialostic was 140/ 90 then as the day went on it came down 135/ 85 really would not go down any further. One day it really freaked me out 170 /104 then eventually came back to 140/90. I like my popcorn and always scrape the Kurnels along the inside of the bag for the salt, I like my cashews salty , and that everything bagel sesoning on my salads. I went to the DR for BP meds and before I took them I wanted to see if I could bring it down naturally. I completley cut my salt intake , I buy low sodium products , dont eat popcorn anymore or salted cashews , for some reason ,I would always bloat , but latley I no long bloat and am losing weight . I just watch what and when I eat like a Hawk. I take readings first in the morning when I get up then 15 minutes later .wake up 129/81 pulse 58, then 121/78 pulse 57.. Later right after my 30 minute brisk walk139/70 pulse72 . fifteen minutes later 125/78 pulse 54. I cannot believe doing this has changed my readings 10fold.

Bob brad, you are right on the breath right strips
they are a life saver. I have been using them for 4 months straight
my blood pressure has definitely lowered and I can breath at night I have a broken septum
I will be using the breath right strips for life! they changed my life for the better
I was waking up in extreme pain back and shoulder pain, I would get migraines during the day,
sudden lose of consciousness. I went to 3 different doctors : A urologist, a ENT doctor, and a hematologist.
All of them were idiots and couldn't help me one of them wanted to prescribe a very dangerous pain medication.

There is something worrying about blood pressure devices people have at home, and sometimes even doctors are not aware of: the calibration of the devices. All blood pressure devices, either digital or analogue, lose calibration after 1 or 2 years of use. Thus, people usually think that their blood pressures, as measured by the devices they have at home, are OK, when, in fact, are not. The lack of calibration usually makes the device show a pressure like 117/78 when in fact the correct would be a 135/85. Therefore, you should have your device checked for calibration at least once a year when you see your doctor.

Flax seed is high in Omega fatty acids. Magnesium Glycinate not only helps sleep but also BP. My mom is slim but still had sky high BP. High BP is also linked to kidney function! Putting carrots and peppers through a juicer with just enough pineapple to make it palatable, taken in the morning works like a charm! The juice helps the kidneys and brings BP down almost immediately.☺️
