I know people get really up in arms about naming and accuracy, but to me this is the perfect Superman. The build, colors, head, and sculpt details seem like a beautiful hybrid of Christopher Reeve, Henry Cavill, and Tyler Hoechlin through the lens of Lee Bermejo. Honestly makes me hope this is what David looks like too.
To me this figure really feels more like a Jorge Jimenez style Superman then classic or Superboy. Ngl I think that would've been better marketing for this, like the Greg Capullo style Batman figures. I love these proportion minus the hands and of course the reuse for the boots and trucks is pretty egregious for a classic Supes. Even though I like the head sculpt well enough I wish the likeness was closer to Action Comics #1 Supes.
Thanks for the feedback. So far you are one of only two people who have mentioned the new intro, so honestly I appreciate any opinion on it. I'm trying to get into the habit of doing more in-front of the camera appearances to make each video more personal, so shortening the intro is to balance all that. But it's a process, of course, so we'll see how it tracks.
This is so close to perfect it hurts. I could even forgive the boots and cuffs, all they had to do was make a new trunks section and they just couldn't do it.
2:19 I am hoping that we get a Brandon Routh Superman from Superman Returns and a George Reeves Superman, mainly in the 6-inch scale Especially since Brandon's Superman is supposed to be canonally the same Superman as Christopher Reeve's Superman, so if they're not able to get the likeness for Christopher Reeve, a Brandon Routh Superman can be good since its still Donnorverse/Burtonverse Superman
@@5POAFigureReviews I think this sculpt captures Swan really well too and find that a lot of folks who don't like this head sculpt are looking for more of a Jose Luis Garcia Lopez or Dan Jurgens look. After JLGL, a lot of Superman editors developed rules for Superman's head shape that Swan's version wouldn't qualify for. In particular, things like the overbite and slightly receding temples are Swan. However, as I compared this to lots of Swan art, I found two things. First, that sculpt is so Swan that the sculptor had to be using Swan reference. Things like the lines around the mouth, bone structure, and dimples under the lips are pure Swan. Second, something probably throwing the look off is the paint on the eyebrows. People who smile sincerely react with their eyes as well as their mouth and these eyebrows seem to be from a different facial expression. Also, Swan drew the eyebrows thicker and, when Superman smiled, the outer edges of the eyebrows arched sharply and angled. I bet if someone removed these eyebrows with some alcohol and then drew on referenced Swan eyebrows, it would probably become the best 3D representation of Swan ever, beating all of DC Direct's statues and the few figures they did.
good review, I like your humor, another figure I can't say much about, not on my list and I only know three versions of Superman from the the classic comicbooks I read, TdKr, Death/Return and Superman TAS and some recent stuff like Deathmetal and the Gladiator Supes
I’m still going to pick this one up as my main McFarlane Superman. I like the size of the page punchers bc they scale better with all the other lines I collect. Agree the hands are too big haha, but I’d rather that vs too small like most of the other McFarlane figures in general. Thanks for the comparisons!
Great Review! one question though are you planning to review the earth 2 gold label superman? i think its the closest we can get to McFarlane making a classic superman
I can agree with that, yeah. In a way, I'm good with that. Superman, the big blue boy scout, should have his moments where he kind of looks like a dork. It's part of his charm, but that's me though.
@@5POAFigureReviews I don't mind Superman being a boy scout or him having a friendly smile and kind face. It's the execution. They need to do a better job sculpting that.
I JUST got mine in today. I absolutely love this figure. Yeah, the trunks could have been retooled for a more accurate classic belt and it's not a true classic Superman that the art it comes with would like you to think it is. For me, I like to think of it as a modern Superman with a more classic color scheme and personality. For me, height wise it works best with the Knightfall Batman as he's just a smidge taller than Bruce. I'm really glad the blue used on him isn't washed out looking as it looks on camera too. Yes, the fists are still a tad big but with the lighter colors of the suit I find that it doesn't stand out as badly as it did on Page Punchers. Over all, I think it's a great Superman.
That could be a really cool custom, if you have a hard time finding the legends of tomorrow figure, or it doesn't end up being a good match, I'm sure that you can find a third party custom head somewhere.
@@5POAFigureReviews I actually wound up getting one on ebay shortly after posting this. They sent me a best offer for it and it’s currently on its way to me.

I hoped you can review the bvs batman mcfarlane toys figure and compare him to hush and page punchers superman figures to see if he can be used as a stand in for a new 52 bats😊
Oh, don't you worry buddy. The arrival of BvS Batman will be a multi-video event here on the channel, but unfortunately my preorder has not shipped yet.
I gave him the hands from the Doomsday 2 pack Superman. You just need to remove the wrist balls from both figures. The holes in this figure are a bit too loose for the wrist balls from the Doomsday 2 pack so I used an incredibly small amount of 2 part "green stuff" modeling expoxy. Think about 1/8th of a pea. Insert the wrist balls in and be sure to rotate them around a few times so there's clearance in there for them to spin. The same clay is really useful for heads that are too loose as well.
This video you made is invaluable to me. I'm going to attempt a Christopher Reeve with this body, I'm so glad you posted the size discrepancy of the trunks and suggested the hands from Shazam. So I'm going to make it more in scale 1/12, because the torso already is pretty much that. Instead of swapping the trunks, I cut only the belt off of the atomic skull two pack version, And I'm going to shave the parts down and plastic bond it to this one's trunks. I got A soft goods Cape from gpslot with the s logo on back. To solve the long legs problem, I'm going to cut off his legs at the boot, remove about a quarter inch of plastic by dremeling n inside of the boot out, And reattach. So the tops of his boots will be closer to the knee joint. And he will end up more in 1/12 scale. I ordered the Christopher Reeve head from China, It's supposed to match sh figuarts size, so I suspect I might have made a mistake. If it's too small I'll have to order a neca One as You so helpfully shown in this video, or a custom casted and painted one. Hands will be from Shazam. Then I'm going to add some shade color to his uniform.
Great review! I don’t really like this figure since it has way too many problems. It definitely is not classic Superman. The head sculpt is a little funny looking to me. I honestly like the bigger body that they used for dark knight returns. It’s a decent buck until you stand him next to basic figures. This Superman is just way too small. I kinda wish this figure was never released so they could do it better in the future. Reuse is fine, but only if it’s smart reuse. Anyways, have a good day!
IMO this is the best Superman body mold by far. Mcfarlane knows this but they're not using this body to make a modern Superman (normal/dark blue color) and with a more heroic head sculpt for some reason.
