I left the church and I am feeling better.
I read my bible, pray, and worship the Lord at home.
I have started attending a weekday bible study which is really good. But that is all I can handle for now.

As a divorced, single man, I find myself unwelcome in any church I attend. When I was married and raising a family, I attended the same church for 17 years. It seems that people consider men to be players, looking for a girl or they just don't want any new people. I went to one church where no one spoke to me for the entire month I attended. The coldness in many Christians is hard to believe.

Bruce G. Oh no. I am in the exact same situation right now. I am also a single mom. After God he saved my life through the broken marriage he called me to the church to make me worship him. but the people were rejected me and are still rejecting me. I think they are thinking the way what you said. I know what is the meaning of Dunamis. So I stayed and endured this sinners until now. But now it is enough. I am very hurted by these people and this is not true. Jesus died and saved my life with his blood. Treat me in their way is also means they treating Jesus same. I endured two years and now I am about to live this church.

@@enen2773 right now I am not attending church at all. The people are basically a mirror of the Church at Laodicea (Revelation 3:14-19). All is well and good, driving luxury cars, wearing designer clothes. But how many boats and yachts sit idle at the docks? I live very close to the water in VB, VA and in the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean I see very few in the water. And it's the middle of the summer. I've been a Christian 42 years and have a fair knowledge of the Word, but I can't share it. Keep your chin up, enen. Love the Lord, pray and read your Bible. Witness in the Grocery store. I'm a Christian and I've NEVER understood what's to problem switching churches, our commitment is to God and not a pastor.
If I move too far to drive why not go to a closer church ??? someone please EXPLAIN it to me, I can't recall seeing anywhere in scripture i need to stay at a certain location,I view it as just a tithing issue and pastors don't want to lose your money.

I see it as cultish... not necessarily a cult but churches have cult like tendencies they're either aware or unaware of. They want you learning from them only, yadeya, etc. That's why many churches have membership. It's like you've sworn to serve that church and be under their authority when growing in your faith and if you're really good (any of these --- a good Christian, knows the Bible, smart, good looking, talented, hard working always volunteering your time at the church, gives a lot of money, etc.) they don't want you at another church. Because you being at their church is also how they promote their church, in a sense "look at us we're a great church that's why we have this person here or look what kind of people we have in our church", even if they like you or not. Also, many churches operate like a business, their members are treated like consumers. That's why they hate it when a member leaves and I've heard before so and so church "stole" our members. Almost as devastating as when State Farm loses you as a customer to Geico. And if you ever go back, they think it proves that they are better or that they are correct.

Also, if you're in a church where you're not growing. Of course it should be taken to God first but I left my Church during the pandemic because I needed more in my faith and it seems the church wasn't really going anywhere. Sometimes God tells us to leave to go somewhere that we are needed.

When there is obvious control and manipulation, spiritual and/ or emotional abuse, obviously physical abuse, worship and celebration of leaders instead of God, when the leaders beg for money all the time and tell you you're sick/ have cancer/ have financial troubles because God's punishing you for not giving enough money, when the leaders tell people to stop talking to you from the pulpit, when leaders talk trash about former members from the pulpit, when there's a lot of gossip there, when you dread going and you don't know why but God is trying to show you it's time to go.

I left an SBC church after 25 years because I wasn’t “mature” enough spiritually and was treated like a second class person. I was raised and baptized/confirmed in another faith that apparently wasn’t recognized by the Baptist church. I had intended to get baptized by “dunking” at some point but when they began to subtly shun me, I had no desire. I walked away and am content in the Episcopal Church, very much accepted.

I spent three years asking God about leaving my last church. I finally decided to leave after my wife passed away last January after ten years of being called lazy, deceitful, and learning that the pastor has a network of informants within his church spying on people, especially those of us deemed "unreliable, divisive, or too negative." I left without talking to the leadership because it would be denied anyway and I left without explanation to anyone.

I am a musician and a part of the multimedia team in our local church and I've been thinking of leaving my church, and today I have decided to do it finally. The reason behind it is that I don't sense belongingness to the people in our church, they barely notice the work I did. One time I saw a picture of my friend and the leaders celebrating my friend's first time preaching and I felt left out. When I first stand in front of the congregation to play guitar for Jesus and to usher them and when I spend 8 hours creating a poster for our church, nobody see that I am tired. One time one of our leaders said, "More of Him, less of us", I felt that and continued to fight my desire to leave but today that desire is gone.
I am 18 yrs old still studying, I sacrificed some of my study hours and family hours to contribute to the church. I prayed a lot and tried to fight my desire to leave the church for months and tomorrow is my last Sunday in the church, Sept 11, 2022, and I will return the guitar I borrowed to them … I will still continue my Christian journey, It' has been a good 3 years to be part of the church.

I felt the pain there cause we're both in the same situation. When I first played the guitar during praise and worship, no one congratulated me. When I first start to lead praise and worship during service, they did not even said a single thing.
I just hope I could still stay despite not being acknowledged most of the time.

      @ogbeideeromosele9328 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@Going Back, I'll really advice you not to leave, that is a wrong reason to not only be in a local church but leave as well, your acknowledgment should come from Jesus and he is the only one that matters, everyone else should just be on the side, a man of God I honor so much says something; "'the praises and criticism of men should be like chewing gum, chew it and spit it out, never swallow"'

I didn't ever believe I would leave but I knew if I stayed I would have caused trouble. I couldn't deal with things. Now I see the Lord used this to move me. I'm in the right place. I hope God is using me where I am.

People are tired of being patronized. They're tired of being treated like children who need to be told what to do 24/7. The Bible says that all members of the body of Christ are given gifts for mutual edification. Where does every other member of the Body exercise those gifts? Certainly not in church. The pastor preaches a sermon and the rest of us do nothing. We don't know and don't care for each other and we all look at the stage for this "anointed sermon" while the rest of us atrophy. This can go on for decades. All we have left is this pile of rules and regulations and Christians that don't grow because they can't use their gifts.

In my case, my church doesn't really teach anything. Almost never talked about anything doctrinal, preach almost the same thing just different title for weeks, and the congregation, especially the youth, don't really have a good doctrinal knowledge and foundation of faith. I tried to talk about it, I even left the youth group because there's no change, the pastors are just too lazy to do something. I don't feel I can grow. I'm still weighing whether I should move from my local church or not. It pains me to see how my local church is right now.

I had to leave a church because there was a lot of politics in the leadership. Spiritually i had no issues in fact that is where i learnt prayer , fasting and all night vigils but i came to a point where i sensed that the church as a whole was going nowhere. And yes there were some doctrinal errors too. Even at local level we seemed to be doing the same things we were not progressing in terms of teaching and advancing with technology (I'm a huge tech guy). As an individual i felt i could do more to help but i was not getting the opportunity to do so. I felt unappreciated, there was no room for my gifts so i knew it was time up. When i joined the new church i was received as though i had been a son for many years. I immediately made new friends and started serving soon after. I have since moved but everytime i travel to my home church I always feel welcome. A few years after I left that church a huge leadership wrangle broke out and there were divisions in the church. That is a lot to share on a public platform!

A lot of things about my church were good, but the leadership. Especially as a greeter. The one lady wouldn't even acknowledge your presence there. I observed her, she was always looking busy. And some of them when they talk to you, the conversations feel plastic.

I have been a member at my church for 20 yrs. along with being a regular singer in the choir, duets, trios, etc. In the last year our church has changed pastors which was a great thing but then they thought the music should change also. Now, instead of a choir singing good gospel songs and hymns with a special soloist, duet, trio, etc. we have new singers (who can't carry a tune or sing harmony) and new musicians (who in some cases can't play). This still wouldn't be too bad except for the fact that none of the past singers are allowed to sing anymore. This is making me think about changing churches.

Then use scripture to justify it but leave out all scripture the holy spirit spoke thru apostle Paul about order of worship and church leadership. I switched from independent assembly of God word of faith to a baptism church. The teaching was Christ centered and was pleasant to my spirit. Word of Faith is me centered and they never teach about living for Jesus. My wife is still attending word of faith. I told her to get out. They teach Hersey and allow blasphemy against holy spirit by claiming gold dust is of God. We are in last days.

It's expected you'll have to be a fulltime church worker than earning money from my job. Ridiculous right? So I transferred to a new church at a Baptist church not far from home and I found peace there :) There's no giving up on God. Ever. It should be worded, "changing the local fellowship that you attend." Because we, the body of Christ, in fact are the church. Not the location or building. We should be part of some local fellowship though in order to build relationships and work out spiritual gifts and have accountability in our Christian walk. Visiting different fellowships from time to time isn't a sin. Because we are all one body. But how can we be held accountable if we are hoping around. Or better yet be affective. Unless we are called away to missions work or are an evangelist preacher.

Definitely leave a church that is spiritually abusive. I would also add that a church that does not believe in purposeful, intentional discipleship is one to leave because that church culture is not interested in Gods agenda.

    • @strongbada.4709
      @strongbada.4709 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@Ceed before leaving, maybe you should ask someone in leadership about why they started playing that music and/or the Disney characters issue as mascots. See what they say. If they have actual solid, biblical reasons then maybe rethink leaving. I don’t think those things in and of themselves is a reason to leave a church, especially if you have solid Christian relationships there.
However, if these things are indications of a deeper issue then you may have a problem. If these things indicate that the church leadership is watering down the gospel (salvation by grace alone through faith in Christ alone) I would definitely start looking for a church that preaches what Jesus preached, repent for the kingdom of God is near, and makes disciples of Jesus.

Throughout the years, the church was getting smaller and smaller. For a while now, the leadership and members have been gossiping, lying, criticizing, and assuming excessively. They dont talk to us anymore on purpose. My wife always feels discouraged and alone, knowing they think the worst of her. I go for the word, but should I keep attending to that church? Or should I find a new???

Sounds like you are making one huge assumption: 1. Unless people have told you to your face, that "people" are purposely not talking to you, then prayerfully cancel thoughts that people are talking about you, in Jesus' name, and pray over your wife's heart/mind that they would be guarded in Christ Jesus. This sounds like a statement made from someone who needs to forgive someone else. Often times, when you feel tormented about what others may be thinking (something totally out of your control), it's because you yourself are being unforgiving (it's a paradigm shift), but that's what the bible says, in the parable of the unforgiving servant: the unforgiving one gets tormented in the end.2. After your relationship w/God, your marriage comes next. your marriage and your relationship with God are inextricably linked, as marriage is a picture of Christ and the church. Keep your marriage at the highest priority, thinking of how you can be more like Christ, as a husband: forsaking any form of pride, to do the right thing: sacrificial love. God bless!

Our church teaches salvation can be lost, that I can't agree on. I am a Calvinist in this issue and I beleive in eternal security in finished work of Christ.

Sadly, most of the groups that teach you must work for your salvation AND/OR can lose your salvation come from the same rotten branch; the Campbellites aka the Restoration Movement of the 1800's.
The Campbells thought Jesus lied (though they didn't put it like that). They thought the early church failed, apostacized, and basically disappeared. And they, in 1800's America, came to Restore the church.
They ushered in much bad doctrine. They threw out the ancient creeds, purposely forgot/rejected church history, and created a blank slate from which THEY would follow God's Word. But choosing to ignore the history of early church councils where dangerous heresies were exposed and fought, left them open for the same heresies. And so they came. Many cults with their resurrected ancient heresies came either from their ranks or using their ideas: LDS, JW, SDA, Church of Christ, Pentecostals (in 1900's), Christian Science, Scientology, and many varied off-shoots.
So you will find some of the same errors running through these otherwise seemingly unrelated groups. Not keeping Jesus in His proper place as God is in many of these groups, along with salvation by works. Even those that have correctly recognized the Trinity in Scripture and the Divinity of our Savior, often still grapple with the sufficiency of Scripture and the efficacy of Christ's saving grace.
It's as if the Campbellites gave ground and cover for Arminianism, Gnosticism, Modalism, and other ancient heresies to spread in America; and then (again) worldwide.
So if you are in one of these groups, you may find other errors, as well as the one you so rightly identified.

The right time to leave a church is when you witness the Holy Spirit being rejected. Someone may speak a word of prophecy, or speak in other tongues, and this should be welcome in a Spirit-filled Church. If it is treated with contempt or rejected, don't think it doesn't register with God Himself. We reap what we sow especially when we reject the Holy Spirit. Nothing's more devastating to a believer than going through all kinds of fiery trials to have a solid relationship with the Lord, then He leads them to speak something by the power of the Holy Spirit and it's rejected. Wait to see if there's any repentance but if there is just continual rejection of the things of the Holy Spirit, apostasy is somewhere in the future. Pray for them all as you quietly walk out the door and find a Spirit-led fellowship elsewhere.

My wife and I spent a year studying this question, mostly reading egalitarian literature, and after three sessions with the leadership decided to leave. Only after this did I read Thomas Schreiner's book on the issue. I think Dr Schreiner has been too soft on this question. If you are in a church, I encourage you to examine your beliefs from the perspective of someone who makes no assumptions about reality beyond what is actually .... well... real. I would also point out that denying the truth of something always have consequences. if not for you, than your children, whom you are likely to leave an impression on, or if not you children, than those who are most close to you. The first time I changed churches is when the Navy sent me to San. Diego. I visited four churches in San Diego connected to the Denomination I had been raised in, but those churches didn’t want single Sailors attending. I found another denomination which made single Sailors and even Marines feel welcome. They preached from the Bible even more than the denomination of my youth. I spent 23 years in that Denomination, then the Statewide Bishop and a local Pastor advised my wife to end our marriage, because I was abusive, so claimed my wife and the Pastor and the Bishop. Of course I wasn't abusive.
My children said, we want to live with Daddy!
So I was given sole custody of my children, the house, and 90 percent of our stuff.
3 years before the divorce was final, that local church closed down. From the very first court hearing when both of us were there, with lawyers, I was immediately given temp custody of the house and kids.
Today my children are grown, married and I have 4 grandchildren, last time I counted. My children won't go near the denomination which destroyed their parents' marriage.
I have returned to the Denomination of my Youth. But a different Synod or Flavor.
No one from the Denomination where I spent most of my adult life has ever said they were sorry.

One issue I think is a major problem in many churches is Pastor's take the side of the person who is wrong (due to being afraid of them or something I don't know.) And end up going against biblical doctrine in regards to how to handle those people. They also end up losing the surrendered members who do not want to compromise the truth for someone's feelings. If you were on the side of the bible, you were right and the pastor should have dealt with that other person's sin. If the other person was operating in biblical truth, then they were right. Only you can say for sure which it was based on what you know from the word.

Disagreeing with the doctrine your church teaches is not a bad reason to leave, especially if you disagree *from scripture*. Charismatic churches are almost as different from cessationist churches as day is from night.
If your church is not bringing you closer to the authority of Scripture (because the Bible is the Word of God), it may be a good idea to leave. Spend time in prayer. Be humble. Be honest with yourself, because it is possible there are ways you are not letting your church reach you. Seek clarification from church leadership, and be teachable in the process. A humble heart, and an earnest desire to get to the bottom of an issue through Scripture is the best way you can figure this out.
Lord, please give Randi guidance as she comes to a pivotal decision in her journey with You. May You guide her with the truth that You reveal through Your Word, and may you grant her the peace that surpasses all human understanding as she seeks clarity. Amen.

This advice seems to be cult-like thinking. Why should a person be bound to a church like he is a serf? If you pastor gets offered a better position paying more money at a larger church, do you think that he will hesitate to leave you behind and go somewhere else? Why be loyal to someone who shows no loyalty to you?
For that matter, does being a “member” of a church confer any benefits to you? Does your leadership visit you when you are sick? Do they help you financially when you are having a hard time (probably not, but they will almost certainly give you a hard time if you do not tithe regularly). Does your church leadership give you good counseling when you need it, or are they aloof and out of touch? Why commit to people who act as if you are invisible, and only contact you when they want something out of you? A lot of church leaders are just users, so don’t feel like you owe them anything, as many of them would never do anything for you.

Not all though. It’s unfortunate good churches get lumped in with bad. We genuinely try to care for the people in our Church. We have helped people during financial difficulties. We visit people when they are sick. We recently discovered someone dealing with alcoholism and offered to pay for Christian counseling to hopefully help them and their family as they work through this. We are t perfect for sure but genuinely try to live and care for people.

After being a member of my church for over 65 years, tomorrow is my last Sunday there.
A deacon has three main responsibilities, of course there are subheading under each but just three main ones.
    1. Share the gospel, not just inviting folks to church.
    2. Look after the flock, especially the widows and widowers
    3. Protect the pastor
I have not been able to protect our last two pastors. There is only one under shepherd of the church and that is the pastor.
When deacons take away the responsibilities and leadership of the pastor and place themselves in authority of everything it’s time, as the Ginger Bread Man said, “Run, run as fast as you can, you can’t catch me I’m the gingerbread man.”
My pastor asked me to stay until he left; therefore, tomorrow is my last Sunday
I have let folks know in advance of our leaving so it will not be said we have something against the church or it’s people.

Help. At our church we have no friends and have been going 4 years. We are Hispanic in a predominantly white church. Their young adults group is divided in cliques. Outside of the planned events of the church, wife and I don't get invited to anything, I always have to plan something and try to invite people. It's like I have to beg for friends there. Outside of church I have many many friends. I talked to the pastor and he says that I can always hang out with him which he is awesome but come on the age difference and what about my wife you know.
Please advise, I want a church that I will feel God's presence and power during worship not a cliquish club. However, everyone there is really kind and loving but from a distance
    I just don't see God's power there

You can leave amicably. Talk to the leaders and tell them your heart. Make sure you tell them its not their teaching or their leadership. That you love them but you are in need of a spritual family. They should understand and perhaps consider their culture. Pray that God guides you in bringing this up with tenderness and respect. and that they can truly see you are not being divisive or contentious.

That’s what I’m talking about we supposedly suppose to be one, now I get if God has done things in our life that others may disagree with but if only it’s lines with Gods will and with His Truth then I get it. God reveals who is who but since there is a lot of misleading no one knows how to test those things because they don’t have the right Spirit. But the answer about leaving a church let God remove you. We may not know how He will do it. But that’s why we should be ready in season and out to read those things God is doing.

I would say the relationship you have with the people in there and the doctrines they are teaching. Bible says that bad people can corrupt good character. Now I'm not saying people that have sinned and you talk to them are going to corrupt you that's not what I'm saying what I'm saying is be aware of who you talk to not every preacher you listen to is telling the truth. For example the Prosperity Gospel. They teach that you can be guaranteed to be healed and be rich if you put your faith and trust in God. Now God give us some things we need but he is not guaranteeing that he will give us money the Bible says opposite that we will face hardships and Tribulation

The question is a distorted premise. Just like asking the question, how much does the color blue weigh? God sanctifies people not objects. Here's the real question. Why would followers of Christ (the real church) want to leave a building (man's distorted reverence for objects and institutional religions)? Simply asked. Why is the Church leaving men's fraternities? Answer
They're hunger for Christ is not being feed there.

It’s the churches that don’t allow women any say or voice in the church that are the most abusive men. I used to think that women shouldn’t teach until I realized no society or church that practices patriarchy has ever been a safe place for all people. I am a victim of it. Please reconsider this. The Bible does not actually teach this but being told certain scriptures are saying this over and over makes it seem like the only interpretation. Based on your enthusiasm I’m assuming you’ll disagree…men and women should equally have an opportunity to lead based on their good character and abilities.

By her teaching she misleads my servants into sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols. 21 I have given her timeto repent of her immorality, but she is unwilling. 22 So I will cast her on a bed of suffering, and I will make those who commit adultery with her suffer intensely, unless they repent of her ways. 23 I will strike her children dead.
