    I can agree with this 100%. Last spring hunt I was calling with no returns and decided to leave my spot after 2 hours. Pushed bush in a different spot and had no success so I went back to my truck, looked at my first spot on the way back and there was 3 toms/jakes that were 50 feet from my spot. They seen me and high tailed it into the sticks.
    Stay where you are and be patient.

    I want out at 5 this morning, no gobbling. I sat for 3 1/2 hrs, still nothing. I moved to another location deep in the public land. 15 minutes later had a Tom come into my set up. By 9:30 I was hauling my bird out - about a mile hike!

Hunt as late as you can, and watch out for Sneaky Petes!! You can get them if you believe in what you are doing!!

    Here in Mo. i killed many birds, in late season gobblers tend to get call shy and the rut is winding down, gobblers may gobble 1 time. I have often left the timber when after 1to 2 hours and no show, but at high-noon sneak back in and get within 100yds. of where he had roosted, a lot of longbeards tend to make a big 1/2 mile circle and end up close to their regular roosting site at high-noon, the call to use then is a couple of clucks, you are now the hunted, cluck only twice about every 20 minutes, use no decoy and no blind, because, stay hid and don't move, remember you are the hunted, a lot of times he will come from behind you, sometimes you win sometimes you don't.... good luck i like this video.

    2nd year turkey hunting. Opening day, I sat in 18mph wind. 10:30-12:30nothing. Went to lunch and saw a male in road at 12:30. 2-4pm saw a Tom coming down ridge after hen...but I didn't shoot because of so many trees and angle, she flew away. Moved down the creek a couple hundred yards. At 6:30pm 5 beards ran behind my tree, jumped creek and zigzagged SO FAST after they saw me. I had to turn 120 degrees to see them and I got busted but they were moving fast already. Not one gobble that entire day but I had two encounters. They're there moving on a windy day

    Well, Ive killed my share of birds in my lifetime and I will back you up on your advice. I would like to add that if it is windy, go to lower terrain and try to minimize its impact on your hunt. Also, switch up your calls. Some turkeys like a diaphragm sound vs.box...
    Remember that even if you do everything right that bird dictates your end result. Be persistant. Stay out there til 1:00. Even experienced hunters can be duped! Good luck!

And that is , besides the safty aspect part of it which I know is a big one , but when should you or can you other than using as a locator , use a gobble call to tricking that old tom to come in?

I've gotten one Jake to cross the road, and passed on him. A nice Tom came to the side of the road, and a %#@)&*&@ car came and he ran south. Great exercise in patience this year.

    Back again, I messed up on the comment below, the reason i don't like using a decoy or blind in this situation is because the gobblers are wary of both by this time of the season they are well educated by novice hunters in blinds with decoys, usually by this time the under brush is really greened up so you may need to change to a different camo pattern

    What about in the late season? Here in SW Ontario I took the last four days of the season off. I had scouted and saw two strutters in the back, inside corner of a freshly planted corn field. I got permission and I sat there all afternoon. Didn't hear a thing. The next morning I tried moving around more and stumbled upon a couple of jakes. The next day I walked some public land and saw only hens. Frustrated, I drove around the last afternoon of the season here (May 31st, season closes at 7pm) and saw only hens in the fields for 50km!
    Is there a point in the late season when toms will stop gobbling, stop coming out of the bush, and stop being interested in breeding completely? What then?

    • @artifactman660
      @artifactman660 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @tenshib5951
      @tenshib5951 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Frank Rodriguez Here in GA, it's been about a month into turkey season and I've noticed the best action between 7 and 9 a.m. as far as them answering back. When you call, do a couple clucks/pits and then a yelp or three and then bring it back down to some clucks and purrs. Wait for 10 to 20 minutes and try again. When you hear one gobble back to you then break your calling up to longer time increments (like 20 to 25 minutes apart) and make it a lot softer. If you have decoys out, and they're hens, try to make it so that they are facing AWAY from where you think the big boy will be coming from..
      When you're calling and you hear rustling in the leaves, a lot of the time it's not squirrels. It's turkeys that are curious about your call. So if you hear anything, then call a lot less often and call a little softer. Hope this helps. [=

      Thank you! I'm really REALLY tempted to go and buy that "funky chicken" decoy, which is one of a scrawny-lookin' upright Jake. Supposedly it will piss off any male turkey and some hens, but I've got just two weeks (I can't hunt during the work week) left and they keep holding up around 40 yards from my mini flock! So I'll either just go into the thick woods and try to call strategically to get one to walk past me, or stick that goofy-lookin' Jake decoy out there and call a little.. I think the price on it has been reduced at Wally World.
      Any luck with either of you so far this turkey season?

      Went twice. Called in a good Tom both times but he kept hanging up at 100 yards both times. He would come to the tree line and investigate, but not commit. Smart old bird with awesome color.

      In Mo. we can't hunt after noon either, thats why we have good hunting, Toms have time to relax and are not apt to get so call-shy and wary, 1 tip , most hunters call way too much, when the timber is quite call softly and sparingly..........

    I’m sure it was good advice but I couldn’t hear it through the wind. Had to shut it off halfway through to keep from losing my mind.

    killed lots of turkey after the hens leave @10:00 AM, most hunters give up after 9, that leaves the real turkey hunters with better chances., also have killed lots before they roost at night.
