Man kind knew that they cannot change society, so instead of reflecting on themselves, they blamed the beasts. but they found beauty in the lives of beasts, and they couldn't lie to themselves about it.
The idea behind the song is to strike the idea of someone fighting with who they are and coming to grips and accepting it. It’s basically Sol’s theme / journey thus far from rejecting his gear nature to acceptance and eventually saving the person he thought was lost to him as his current self. The hint to this is the lyrics like “I know who I am, the moonlit lake told me.” Or “My nails are sharper then ice.” And the constant back and forth of knowing who you are but asking what you are. People tend to forget Sol was a human once.
@@lorddarkshadow0 I have the feeling that the story of this game is going to be much more personal for Sol, since the main theme is even reinforced in the match intros and his encounter with That Man will finally be resolved.

Sol would for the following games attempt to destroy That Man’s legacy and seek him out for revenge. TL;DR: Sol was a human scientist and became the titular Guilty Gear, as a co-creator and protoype for them.
The first time I heard the "mankind knew they could not change society" lines I thought to myself "Oh, this is just a summation of series lore." The 'beasts' are the Gears, and in deciding to blame them for their own failings, mankind has deemed them Guilty.
lol i understand many people are indifferent about the "What Am I" part. but it sends me so much energy. also it goes with the song because it starts off with a person losing his way due to the world & its problems, and the "What Am I" seems symbolic of him finding himself in the world and facing his fears.
Yeah also the part of "Mankind" is literally something that appears when you start matches on the demo during the intros in text. They really wanted to make the theme fit with the story that the game will have. So I expect it all having to do with the newer character.
It gives me a lot of prog metal energy, and for most people that's pretty niche sadly (I love the genre but there are people that just like hard riffs and choruses). I like that it takes you for a journey to tell the themes of the games. That part fits well as Sol's theme as well, since he considers himself a beast due to being a gear.
@Silent Youngsters I mean the most popular music relies on catchy repetition. Even though Metal culture gathered as a counter-culture to such things, many metalheads don't realize that applies to metal and rock too. Metal can absolutely rely on the repetition of catchy riffs the same way a pop song relies on vocal hooks. That isn't bad by any means tho, repetition legitimizes anything and makes the song more memorable, but I think a change of pace of instrumental and experimental sections is great for a metal song and makes it more re-listenable as there is more content and depth to look for and it accents the catchier parts with some space around it. Asking for a shortened cut of the song with just the verse and chorus tho is a bit ridiculous tho since that's already been a thing for a while.
The song is a rollercoaster, let the thing take you on a ride and don't struggle trying to hold on the familiar chorus. It tells a story in it's own way, starting out normal, then going screamo for the conflict, then an epiphany (what am I) before the final climax. (And hell yeah that gave me Queen vibes)
Yes it may've been the best part even... Specially what the voice says about the beasts. That plus what was happening musically gave me chills like no other song has ever done it
This songs second half is more-so a story than a song. Its about Sol accepting himself, and the it all culminates into him saying "no one can break" me. He's accepted who he is.
I remember the first time I heard the whole thing I was so scared these new parts would ruin it for me. Here I am about 100 loops later and I love literally every second of it now. Knowing how much Daisuke is inspired by all these different western rock bands and seeing his homages to their work makes hearing those, "what am I"s all the more special. Hope it gets easier to listen too for you, and if it never does, then we're all still glad you enjoy the chorus!
The "What am I" part reminds me of bohemian rhapsody, even some of the tone sounds familiar to it. But agreed this one seems a bit everywhere, and would of preferred a consistent song. Still like it.
If you grow up with a wanna-be rocker dad, who blast rock and metal on big speakers. . . Its the reason why GG's music got my attention. Anime visuals + Old style rock music = Strong combo for me. Blazblue is a close second. The "What Am I" part is very nostalgic, reminds me of Queen.
I'm very glad that you kept the whole song in. It's definitely an interesting one. The "What am I" section reminds me of old prog rock (Gentle Giant), and the growling/screaming isn't necessarily the best, but overall I dig this one.
Not the first time Guilty Gear does tone switches. Think of Answer's theme. Enough is Enough. It literally turns into a whole different song and then back.
I get the song is about a specific character but personally I find a really nice message in it about accepting who you are with confidence and moving forward as yourself despite societal norms that may try to stop you, especially embracing the primal nature within us all. It’s full of musical metaphors like the screamo voice representing doubt stemming from society, the variety of tones and feels representing how you keep trying out different versions of yourself before you find it, with the reoccurring chorus showing the underlying parts of yourself that will always be there no matter how much you change, and with long and confusing instrumental stretches perhaps representing self-doubt and lack of direction (especially the what am I part), with the ‘mankind knew that’ etc voice being the realisation and justification of fully embracing who you are, ending with the triumphant chorus returning once more with new variations which combine the familiar and unfamiliar, representing the new and old parts of you, and the voices talking in turn represent you making peace with the different parts of yourself. Sorry, I know I’m reading way too much into this, but I absolutely adore this song and it means a lot to me, as it brings me self-confidence and just really helps me feel good. Congratulations for making it to the end of my ramble :)

Daisuke is a huge Queen fan and this whole soundtrack takes SO much inspiration from them. The parts you though don’t fit are exactly the stuff you can hear in Bohemian Rhapsody, basically it’s one giant callback to that. And I freaking LOVE IT. This song also suffers from a identity crisis unnaturaly transitioning genres. Chorus is great some of the bridges are nice as well and those hook riffs are still awesome.
I disagree; not about the growls; those need work. But i think the struggling probably has to do with him trying to growl in English( He seems to already have a hard time pronouncing certain words in english). I think the transitioning genres is supposed to be a reference to Queen's music. Daisuke looooves switching genres in the middle of songs (bagpipes in Diva of Despair, jazz in Enough is Enough) in the same way Queen changed genres from song to song, and it makes sense since Daisuke's a huge Queen fan
Trust me it grows on you. At least it did for me. You start appreciating the contrast towards the middle-end of the song. Makes the finale hit that much harder.
It's like Diva of Despair: random bagpipes out of nowhere. It's definitely a divisive move, and it's natural that a lot would think it's too awkward. Personally though I like both songs.
Heavy Days and Six Black Heaven's Gun are more my preference here for Guilty Gear Music. Though I am also someone that thinks Blazblue has better Daisuke music so what do I know.
I like the whole song, even the tone shift. Feel like if was just 5 minutes of the same chorus and riffs but slightly different it'd get pretty boring to listen to.

The whole song was good.
You must react to the LittleVMills cover
100% loooooooove long guitar solos sooooo good 🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟
Not really a fan of the "What am I?" Part but this song is 🔥 and I'm not even a Guilty Gear fan.
I think smell of the game is ok, but society is better.
You dont like the smell? Oof
I can wait for guilty gear 2020 like for all who can't either
I like screamo
I really like the "what am I part" but I don't know what I think of the beauty of the beasts segment and I really am not a big fan of the death metal growl part. My reaction to those parts was a lot like Koe's. But I'm happy for Daisuke that he's spreading his wings either way.
Lmaoo i had the same reaction to this. Like after listening to main, i downloaded the full theme and then walking outside with headphones the screaming and creepy what am i. I was like what the fuck am i listening to loool
What Am I?
Legion? jk
You are "What am I?"
Man, Koe hasn't hit puberty here
