- The all-new eight-generation Volkswagen Golf (Mk8) range has just arrived in Malaysia and Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) has brought the whole line up.
Starting with the tame R-Line, spicy GTI and monstrous R. The R-Line and GTI are now locally assembled here in Pekan, Pahang while the R is fully imported.

Hahaha dont even hv electric folding side mirrors....wat a turn off plus no AEB for a 160k & 213k car...bye2 golf R line / GTI
electric folding mirrors only available in r model however this no aeb in all models is not available because vpcm says it's not setup for local road

To be honest i do appreciate Volkswagen Malaysia produce Golf GTI as a CKD instead of CBU "which is Malaysia the only county in Southeast asia that produce golf gti as locally assembled " but the specification just mehhh....

Manual folding side mirrors? Happy with my MK5 CBU Germany with Powered folding side mirrors and can set the air cond temperature in 1 second after I start my car, you will be sweating like in hot sauna after you get your MK8 parked under hot sun.
Think the auto folding side mirror can be enable via the setting or by vcds coding.. No biggie

Same as you Adrian, personally I like the mk7.5 more than mk8.
But the worst part that I cannot digest is no auto folding side mirrors for the r line and gti. Come on, its 2022 already and they skip this simple function.

This MK8 is just not it, no doubt would still go for the MK7.5 Gti 💯, Plus touch sensitive buttons is just nonsense, they want to make it look stand out but it's not user friendly at all 👎🏻
0:51 Disagreed. Golf R mk7.5 CBU was priced at rm296k back in Aug 2020 and that price point already included the exchange rate. Our currency did NOT depreciate significantly from Aug2020 till now.
For context, this golf R costs £39k new (~rm221k) in UK and rm296k price point seemed reasonable with all the taxes Msia imposes on foreign cars. However, rm357k? That just seems greedy to me.. you can almost get 2 golf R with that rm357k (£63k). Of course the target audience that can afford this car don’t really mind the price increase, but it just doesnt seem right that they can just simply overprice their cars as if we’re a rich nation..
Yea.. the new Golf is underwhelming with it's cut specs and not so impressive ergonomics. The upgraded Camry is a more exciting news this week than the new Golf.
Hi Adrian, the spec sheet for the GTI says that it has "Front Differential Lock." Does this mean that it has an electronic limited slip differential? Thanks

All these people in the comments talking about lack of safety features as if anyone who drives a GTI give two fucks about safety 😂
Accessories like front fog lamps, retractable side mirror, aeb, pacc, LKA can be retrofitted and this can be consider as problem that can be easily be solve once u splash the money. Problems that are much harder to solve are issues such as laggy headunit, non-illuminated touchpads for the temp control, as well as the hassle to increase/decrease the AC fan speed easily (2 steps). You cannot have the head unit displaying music or navigation uninterrupted if you would like to adjust the AC controls.
The all touch-pad buttons are a pain to use and all the wow and futuristic outlook for the touch pads will be gone when u struggle to change the fan speed while driving. 😛
Yeap, all those accessories can easily be solve. But do bear in mind, any modification especially involving wiring will void your warranty right away unless the add on feature provided by VW Malaysia itself. If need to be installed at outside workshop, then you need to wait until finish the warranty period. How long that could be? 3 years? 5 years? By that time you already consider a new car. 3 to 5 years with manual folding mirror for a price of 150K minimum? Need a time to reconsider.
@@fvizhvmit yeap, its true that potential buyer will not be willing to forgo the manufacturer warranty to up-spec their car. The spec for the mk8 as well as the pricing will only make this mk8 even less attractive compared to those similar priced brands such as BMW/Merc
Prepare to void warranty even with the smallest change.. 😬

MAHAL LA. The car is nice and i really like the interior but the price is hard to swallow. For what you get its not worth the money.

looks very good two ckds r-line and gti and one fully imported cbu r model and this is the first time gti is ckd
it is very disappointing to see the lack of all active safety features. Come on even axia has AEB. Thats pretty basic nowadays. Not to mention lack of adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist and what not. Not worth the price tag IMO. Maybe they are catering this model to a real driver. but a real driver also needs all the safety features 😅
Really dislike these sort of bulky sport seats like the ones in the 3rd Gen W176 A-class. Makes the cabin so damn claustrophobic feeling.
For the new price not having all the safety features I rather pick up one used from the previous generations

0:51 blame weak currency? Mk7.5 was launch in 2018, our currency stays almost the same at 4.XX vs USD since 2015, with a brief moment of 3.9. So another excuse by VPCM. And why the hassle spending time and money to CKD it just to lower a few percent, which in fact most of the savings is by removing equipments.
i do agree with u at that time our currency also similar like this year which is not the best & not the worst either but the price go up too much from RM296k (mk 7.5) " include SST tax " right now RM357K (mk8) " with SST exemption" !
@fortheloveofthemachines Eur to Myr is almost the same now as it’s in 2018 at 4.5 - 4.8. Most importer already anticipated currency fluctuations in their prices, so not surprise if VW based it on 5.2 in 2018 and 2022.
And yes it has risen a few thousands compared to Mk7.5 (US from around USD27k to 30k if I’m not wrong, tell me if I’m), but with CKD tax reductions and lower assembly cost and don’t mention the equipment removed? My whole question is why the hell CKD if there’s not much difference where a group of limited enthusiastic people will buy it regardless the price even it’s CBU, it’s better because it’s made in Germany.
I will just stick with buying a Lamborghini Huracan then.
