Some good testing. I ran the TAC vanes all last year, but this season have been very disappointed with them. The TAC vanes get very easily mis-shaped and have been throwing off my groups. I am going to be ripping them off and going to the AAE max's. I was already in the process of making a video on this and thought i would see some other peoples opinions on them. Great video and testing.
2.7 inch, AAE Stealth Max for Me also in, 3 Fletch, @ 3* Helical, just "Works" for, GOOD 3 Blade, B -H and F P,.. Accuracy ! VanTec's 3" V-Maxes and, 2.88" Swifts, also "Control" My 3 Bladed, B H's, just,.. FINE ! Tested, the B-H accuracy with these 3 Vanes, to 65 yards, with my 435 grain, 28" Arrows ( PSE DNA Smooth Pull Bow @ 57 Pounds ) and they, flat out, WORK !
Both vanes are known for having fletching adhesion issues but for me I have great success with both of them using the AAE max weld primer pen and BSI Maxi-Cure cyanoacylate glue in my Arizona mini max jigs
I’ve spent the last dollar I’m gonna spend on tac vanes. I’ve fletched a bunch of them and some stick, some don’t. I wish I had all the wraps and time back that they’ve made me throw in the trash. Heck, I have had 3 vanes stick perfectly and then the 4th won’t. Start over…. Haven’t had that problem with the max stealths.
Agree,. I Just ordered, 100 AAE Max 2.7 inch Vanes, to Fletch up My Arrows ! My son has been using them Successfully on his Elk arrows for, the last, 4 or 5 Years and he can hit, a Beer can at 80 Yds with his arrows.
My experience to! I have up on tac vanes and just staying with the max stealth. No problems with the max stealth. Worst thing about the tac vanes was shooting in cold weather they would fall off especially if they smacked together . I tried everything to get them to stick well
Hey thanks! Obviously the grouping was not very very accurate, because I was shooting with inconsistencies, but I definitely feel confident saying that both group close enough to the same, will steer a broadhead well, and are almost identical in sound levels. The only difference is the weight (minimal), and DEFINITELY ease of fletching. TAC’s aren’t the most fun to fletch! Lol Thanks for watching!!
On your previous video of fletching the tac vanes it really helped me with mine and getting them set. i use AAE pen and Gorilla Gel to get them on with a Bohning Fletcher. Will be moving up to helicles in the near future. Thanks for these videos !!
Glad I could help! The video dropping this week is my specific arrow build. Insert, vanes, tips and tricks, and then some long distance shooting with fixed blades and mechanicals! So hopefully there is something useful you can pull out of it as well!
I’ve sent a ton of AAE max arrows down range. Recently switched to TAC and am still testing. But so far so good. Not a big difference. But the durability is much much better. I use a Bitz left helical jig. Man you ain’t kidding about getting it to seat (tips ). I have to smash that thing down while applying pressure from below arrow to get it flush.
Yea. I have to pull the jig off of my TAC and smash it down too. After that it sticks great. If I didn’t have to change my sight tape I would immediately probably switch back to the AAE max’s lol. I just had a buddy ask me to do his arrows for him. I asked him what he wanted and of course he said tacs lol.
Holy crap, I was just watching videos on Tac vanes and recognized your yard. You live on side of my best friends Aj and Nicole. Gonna have to bring my bow next time I visit and shoot lol. Great video.
I've been using different aae vanes for awhile I've got max stealth, max hunter, aae hybrid and just bought the tac vanes in 1.75, 2.75 and 3.75 sizes, I haven't had a chance to shoot the tac vanes but they look really nice. Q2i vanes are quite thick and nice aswell.
@BassBucksOutdoors yeah thats it man, aae are definitely the easiest to fleatch even when using a prime pen they will stick with most glues, I'm trying out the tac vanes but they look a little dull compared to aae, but yeah man stick with what you like the q2i vanes are fairly thick.
@@robertmiller6822 I’ve been using Gorilla brand instant adhesive for several years with almost 100% zero issues. I do clean all parts with 91% alcohol including every vane bottom no matter what brand.
I love the look of the DCA’s. They definitely steer great. I just found them to be a little louder and definitely heavier than these. I wish they would come out with a mini version lol
I am an TAC vane guy. With the grouping, I say go with what you like. The max ones with the lower groups could be heavier or dragging through the air and the tone of the flight.
In reality, how many people can shot well enough to see the difference between these two vanes downrange performance. The AAE VANES are so much easier to mount. I wasted money on the tack system. Too much time to prep them etc 4:06
You are 10000% correct. And that is exactly the end goal that I reached in this video. They work very well in my vane master pro, but do not work well with many other jigs. And require no more prep than the AAE max stealth. The only difference is the slight weight difference. I thought for sure that I would get a sound difference, but I didn’t. So for the majority of bow hunters, I would comfortably say to pick one you like better, and stick with it! No problems with either! And neither has an advantage over the other. 😊
Thanks for watching! Yea, some of the greats in the bow world differ in opinions on the helical. Podium Archer and many others like a lot of helical, John Dudley doesn’t like a LOT of helical.. TAC actually recommends keeping it around a maximum of 3°. John Dudley just posted a video the other day where he shot a left helical, right helical, big helical, and small helical at 90 or 100 yards and literally put them all in a group the size of a baseball. The guy is incredible and a huge wealth of knowledge. I think the key is getting your bow tuned, picking a setup, and sticking with the setup while constantly working on improving your form. I do feel like the extra helical does bite onto wind more where a 3° wouldn’t be affected as much. I might try to test heavy helical vs light helical!
Yes… it is doable, however you will have to fight the glue sticking to the plastic that holds the fletchings. But…. If you can get it done, they are darts! I ended up determining the vane master pro worked best for the tacs.
Great shooting, and I agree, the only obvious difference between the two is the weight. And even with that, you have to be past 50 yds before you’re gonna see any measurable difference in 10 grains. Now my question is: did you screw on a fixed head and see if one or the other was more consistent?
Not on the video..but I did today because of one of the other comments. They both flew the same. Now…with that said, my bow is tuned very very well. I don’t necessarily think either of them will steer better than the other, but if your bow is not perfectly tuned, I do believe there would be a difference in point of impact. Because the TAC is a stiffer vane, I feel like the arrow would plane and stabilize quicker, while the AAE Max Stealth is softer and I THINK the response time of stabilization would be a little slower and thus ending up at a different point of impact.. and if I’m guessing, I would also guess that the max stealth would still group well, just have a slightly different point of impact than a group with the tacs. My next upload is going to be covering the entire build of my arrows for this season, installing the inserts, fletching with TACs, weighing the arrow, calculating FOC, and also shooting them from 50-100 yards with a field point, and iron will broadhead, and a couple mechanical broadheads as well (mega meat and rage hypodermic no collar). If you have any ideas on things you would like to see let me know! I’m all ears and want to put out as good of content as I can that people are interested in.
@@BassBucksOutdoors all sounds good. I’ve been putting a little effort into my videos lately too. Trying to find what people are wanting to watch can be challenging
You'll get better control of your broadheads with four fletch of a higher profile. I prefer the TAC vanes for the weight. I test with a lab radar, and can confirm that longer vanes have more drag than shorter vanes.
I can believe that. Personally, down in south Louisiana, we don’t really have to worry too too much about broadhead flight because in the swamp, most of your shots will be under 30 yards. Just so thick in those areas. Top pin city! But, I do have plans to go out west where longer shots are always in play and I also just like to practice at longer ranges.
@@BassBucksOutdoors I'm in Kansas. I have a pretty good testing ground for arrow flight. In general, what works best in the wind also works best when you have flaws in your tune or your release. If you shake too much, torque the bow, etc. I had fletching contact with me rest for a year and had no idea because my arrows were that consistent and stabilized that quickly.
How do they fly a fixes blade broadhead. That's what really matters. And in hunting range, kinda like sound if your just shooting stationary targets who cares if they creat 120DBs and sounds like an earthquake lol. Also the deer are going to hear them regardless, stand about mid way down to the target and have your buddy shoot an arrow you can be 30+ yards off to the side at a safe distance, you'll hear them clear as day. If your mic is behind the arrow redo the sound with the mic in halfway to the target and pick it up, it sound completely different btw. And only reason I say in hunting range is for 3D there's way better vane choices, these are mostly designed for hunting purposes with some target. Kinda 75% hunting 25% target. With a feildpoint you don't need a longer tall vane, you can use a 2" and under and a 1/4" tall vane if your bows tuned properly. Do a 40yard test with fixed blades, shouldn't have to move your sight tape its only like a 15 grain difference between the 2 (all 3 combined) add rhe max hunters in and you'll appreciate how quiet some vanes are lol, but man they steer a fixed blade like no other, like having a professional race car driver steering it😅
Both of these vanes steer iron will wides great. Depending on if your bow is tuned or not. That’s why I didn’t focus on that. Also, I showed myself setting the mic halfway between me and the target in the video…. That’s where the sound came from. 15 grains doesn’t make a difference out to 50-60 yards. But at 100 yards like the end of this video, 15 grains definitely makes a difference. You will definitely need a new sight tape if you increase your arrow weight by 15 grains. Try adding a piece of tape that weighs 15 grains to your arrow. You will be amazed when shooting 100 yards. Not really applicable to hunting, but 3D? Definitely makes a difference and will need a new tape.
I use standard parabiloc shaped vanes. I got a bag of 200, 5 inch vanes for £10 off ebay had to wait a month for them to arrive from China. UK archery shops sell AAE parabolic vanes for £20 for 50 then charge for delivery. The are exactly the same vane! I just use generic super glue, never had an issue. A vane is a vane is a vane... Shoot what you like the look of. Bohning fletchtite works great with Bohning vanes, it doesnt work as well with any other vanes.
I have some of those too I can review. They steer the arrow well, but you can definitely see a significant difference in sound on those! I love the look of them. I wish TAC would make a smaller profile version of the super Sabre but with their harder material!!
@@BassBucksOutdoors yes I was disappointed on the flimsy material dca used. But I know a lot of people shooting them this year! I like how stiff tac vanes are. Only other vane I found similar are vantec vanes. There on the stiffer side
The max stealth is 2-3 grains heavier than the Tac vane. There is zero difference in drag as they are fletched identically and have such a similar profile that it can’t conclusively account for the difference.
I can definitely do that. However…. I feel like for this specific test the field point was a good tip for consistency. BUT! maybe I can add a broadhead test to this test that I did in the future. Add it in as another step to this procedure! Will definitely do that!
Keep shooting!! And if you want to shoot long range I highly recommend getting a 2x magnifier for your sight. Allows you to see way better at longer range but doesn’t affect your close shots at all.
