- We head to a small auction/horse sale to check out two young quarter horses we saw advertised... You may be wondering, why more quarter horses!!?? Well! we have some new plans in the works and these two horses would be a part of those plans. A friend of mine who is an incredible reigning cow horse trainer may go full time into the horse training world. I believe he has a talent and gift to do this, so I have been encouraging him to quite his full time and go after his dream! These young horses would be part of a "Colt Starting" training seminar that he and I have been discussing and planning on doing to kick off his "Training Career". Hopefully this seminar would take place this spring. We also meet up with our good friends, the Elrod Family! Michelle and Todd have a strong love for helping horses in need and have been adopting, rescuing and finding homes for horses over the past few years. They have recently decided to start a non-for-profit horse rescue and dive deeper into this passion and expand their farm in hopes to be able to rescue a few more horses. Had our pony until 43 healthy right up to the end, taught 3 generations of children to ride.
They won’t regret the Andalusian mare and foal! Baroque horses are the absolute best!!!

My Thought: If they hope to have a working horse for 20 years is a reason to start with a horse considerately younger than 20yo.
I second an earlier suggestion to look into Horse Plus full circle of life rescue in TN, they provide ideas, resources, instruction, support and a network of horse and animal rescue organizations, as well as having a grant program for new rescuers. 😊
I like your channel because it is NOT like Horse Plus. You are not guilt tripping people for money all the time. Rescues too many times evolve into fund raising priority instead of the horse story. We get to know your horses..recipe for your success.
Horse Plus is TERRIBLE!!! Those of us that live in Tennessee know how they really are and when everyone locally caught on to their ways, they moved and relocated.They are NOT a rescue at all
@@OneBrightLightTN They absolutely ARE a rescue and support the fight against Big Lick, they offer grants to other shelters and have rescued thousands of horses. Are they perfect? No. But how many horses have you rescued from slaughter, hmmmmmm?
@@elisabetta611 You are free to believe what you want. They bid on horses that look bad, put them all over social media to raise money (lots of money). But 9 times out of 10 they euthanize the horse at the auction. They don’t put a dime into saving or rehabilitating the horse, they kill it and leave its “story” on social media for weeks/months to get money. I personally know of several horses that families wanted to rescue and rehabilitate but Horse plus bids them up only to kill them
@@OneBrightLightTN Ah, you're one of those people who can't accept that euthanasia is a part of rescue and their videos show exactly when or where this decision is made. Recommended by a vet, no less. Your ragebait numbers are so off base that I'm ending this discussion here, kiddo. Toodles!

Hated to see that big guy on that little black pony. Agree with a couple of other commenters. Horse Plus Humane Society is a great horse rescue. They also work to mentor other rescues to be full circle of life shelters.
Look at how high he is behind. He needs to grow before he is ridden. Look at the statistics of horses that get started too young. They are often broken down by 6 or 7.
That pony was awesome!
A quick & easy way to determine if the horse is over 10 is to see if the '10 year molars' are in yet.
Those are the only 'POINTED' conical shaped teeth just past the 'empty' space where the bit sets in the mouth. Then the '10 year molars' are there before you see the 'FLAT' molars in the back. You know the molars that have to be filed down ('floated' because horse teeth, molars specifically are softer & easily worn down in the centers due to the horse's chewing action, the grinding they do chewing with their back teeth, molars) on the edges because of the grooves that horses wear into them from chewing because they get very sharp on those edges making it very painful for older horses to properly chew their food. Which leads to digestive issues & contributes to older horses having difficulty keeping weight on because they are unable to properly process their food because they can't chew it properly when it hurts them to chew.
Then beyond that there is the length of the front teeth that you consider. And even beyond that then there are the 'DARK CIRCULAR' COLORATIONS ON THE FLAT EDGES OF THOSE LONG FRONT TEETH.
Also the length of the '10 year molars' comes into play here. Experience is definitely required to be able to 'READ' those 'DARK CIRCULAR' SPOTS ON THOSE TEETH, ESPECIALLY ONCE THE HORSE IS UPWARDS OF 15-20 YEARS OLD! Then sometimes you'll see some horses beyond 30, that's when amazing experience comes into play 'READING TEETH'! I've known only a few other 'OLD TIMERS' who could accurately 'READ TEETH', literally getting to within 1-2 years of the horse's verified age!
It's an art for sure, one I'm very happy to have been taught by one of those 'OLD TIMERS'!

Wonderful video, too bad about the sales, but there is always a reason. That first Horse that Michelle rescued and was standing next to, the Bay? Hard to tell true color on my old Laptop, but that was a nice horse, and yes I subscribed. The colt and filly were really nice, but kind of pricy for the time of year.....Perhaps, with 12 horses to choose from, People were more prone to higher prices.

They have grants they give out to help in many different ways and they have boot camp if you are chosen to attend you could win $15,000,00 to help you for things like you need for your farm and the rescue there base out of TN. been around for 20 years plus . they have youtube and facebook . I think your friend just starting out in rescue of horses could use there help even if she didn't win the money , going to there boot camp she would learn allot . Horse shelter hero's on youtube from horse plus . Anyway I wish your friends good luck and I enjoy watching your video's as well , hope you get Oliver another Clydsdale girlfriend. Have you ever looked into buying a wild Mustang? They have a huge Mustang exhibition, called Mustang Magic. They have 100 days to tame and train your assigned horse, or a horse you bid on in actual/online auctions. Otherwise, I've even seen where they buy Mustangs for as low as $25. (Have donkeys and mules too)
Yes.....Horse Shelter Heroes is helping rescues....good guidance. Full Circle of Life Rescues are critical....they do not take over they just guide! Grants are available thru them.

One for sure is my learning that you are a highly supportive involved helpful friend who will do all he can to promote others.
I'm not a horse person so am not famiiar with the training market to know if it's considered a luxury by most folks.
I look forward to his YT channel and hope he branches out to Facebook, Instagram and TikTok. He, and the Elrods, can easily post the same videos and short on each until they have enormous followings at which time they can decide to offer select pieces on single accounts.
In the end JR I feel your friend must be an amazing trainer to earn your encouragement which isn't a light matter.

Poor things, I really feel a lot of empathy for the horses being put through an auction, they are so emotionally evolved and sensitive, they know everyone staring at them and it must be a really scary experience for them as they can pick up on the vibes , especially that horses are able to sense the difference between Good and Evil, they can feel a good person or a bad person... so when they're put through kill auctions in my opinion, they can pick up on the sinister dark vibes of that. 😢

It's always a good idea to include in a You Tube channel name a hint as to the subject matter, so Elford Farm would do well to include an equine related word. eg. I found Homestead Horsemanship when searching the word 'horse'.

Here's just some advice take it or leave it study the galvane line on The top row outside tooth the line starts when the turn ten the line will be half way down when there 15 there 20 when the line is all the way to the bottom of the tooth now The line will start reseding down from the top of the tooth when it's halfway down there 25 when it's All the away down the tooth and you know longer see the line there 30 you probably already in know about this though just in case you don't now horse traders can't lie And say hes only 10 and he's really 15 or he's 15 and really 20. There is no doubt that a horse rescue is a good thing for the horses that get rescued, but I find the use of the word "dabble" when getting involved in rescue to be a bit of a concern. Rescuing horses is tough, and very expensive.
You are 100% right. Its is extremely expensive and way more to it then most think.
Those QH sure look heavy built for what I take QH to be. Wonder what their bloodlines are? Do they represent their bloodline? Withers might be hard to find a saddle to fit and stay put...? I question what they claim.
If you listen to the auctioneer he actually says their blood lines. I don’t know much about the QH lines though so can’t say much on it.
