This is why I love digging through music! I've never heard this song before and have never heard of this band. 20 seconds into the song they got my full attention. I was thinking ok.. let it play out and see if the song drops off somewhere. It never did! This is a classic track and the video fits the song so well. 🎵
The Real Ramona… What a great album. I used to crank this in my 71 Volkswagen bug as I cruised around the mountains north of Fort Collins, Colorado back in the 90s… saw the Throwing Muses at the Fox theater in Boulder on their University tour…
Around the early 90's in Orange County, California, I used to watch a local music video show called "Request Video." The host at that time was the way cool, funny, and lovely, Gia DeSantis. I will never forget the time they played my request, this one. Gia announced the band and title, followed by "for Adam in Huntington Beach. " She then smiled at the camera as if to say: This guy has amazing taste.
An old friend told me that Kristin and Tanya were witches and this song references hypnosis and the zoetropes and counting backwards are means of induction.
@@panchoverde5078 Yes, I can imagine it. Think about having Siouxsie Sioux and Robert Smith at the same time twice in the Banshees, or when David Bowie teamed up with Nine Inch Nails for a tour and they used to play a full set together, or when Miles Davis and John Coltrane were in the Miles Davis Quintet in the 60s.
Two of the loveliest, classiest and smartest ladies rock music has ever had. And together with the other ultra-talented members of their band, a criminally underrated band.
Suddenly, Led Z's D'yer Mak'er popped up. Their vid features the portrait of a certain John Bonham, whose drum fills must've rung in the head of the producer of Counting. (Actually, girls in particular liked to cover D'yer. I knew Les Lolita's version first, Sheryl Crow did a sensual rendition and there's even a slightly amazing life ride by a younger lady Gaga !)
Oh man, the hours I wasted sat in front on MTV waiting for gems like this to periodically pop up. But am I sorry? No sir! No I am not! Man, I still love Throwing Muses. Thanks for the upload.
Old mix tape a friend made for me and suddenly this tune came on the walkman as 16 year old me walked to school, backwards guitar riff, cool drums, women singing....fuuuuck!!! what a tune!!!!!
I can relate - watching MTV, waiting for something halfway decent to come on - I finally resorted to recording 120 minutes every Sunday night on VCR, and then going through it the next day and offloading the songs I liked on to a second VCR… Still have the tapes… And yes, there are some Throwing Muses on there!❤️🎸👍☮️
Hey great to know I wasn't the only person on Earth doing this in the 1990s. I'm from the UK and used to hope some great indie tracks would appear. Occasionally you'd get a gem but that would often involve sitting through dire commercial muzak . On the subject of The Muses I consider University as the best American album of the 1990s with The Breeders Last Splash a close second
@@theodorerobertson9400 Yep, another uk viewer here too mate. And also another university devotee as well. Teller is my all time favourite TM track, a classic album for classic times. What a band!
Remembering I had the CD single of this song. Early nineties Alternative. Lovely little era of music. So many bands putting out some amazing, original music. It's crazy how after this and if you count Electronica later in the decade, there really hasn't been another musical genre/movement created since then. Maybe it speaks of the staleness of modern music.
Alex Castillo staleness is a polite way of putting it friend :) real shame anything like 90' altern hasn't been seen for years. On the plus side because bands were signed, made an album and dropped from the label back then, there's soooo many hidden gems to find. Won't be the same again
While I am of your age and so I share your gut feeling, the truth is there is a lot of great music being created every year, if you put the effort into looking for it. It's not as easy as turning on the radio nowadays. But it is there. It is a hobby of mine and I can guarantee that there is great music, and even new music genres, being created every day. Humbly I ask you not to turn off your brain or your hope.

I was 21yo when this album came out, found them on MTV's 120 Minutes (the only things MTV was ever good for). When I would get done work late on Saturday night and ride the Ninja to our apartment I would have a Walkman playing certain tapes for the ride and The Real Ramona was one of them. I felt like I was safe while riding and listening to good music and always felt like this was good album to listen to for Shore music for surfing and riding along the coast. This album is so good and so underappreciated. So glad I got to enjoy it and can still do so to this day. Thanks, Throwing Muses.
Still to this day this song rocks! It is so good! This whole cd is so good, and unique. I truly enjoyed Kristin's book Rat Girl. Thank you for letting us see into your mind, and world.
Fantastic stuff from a superb album and a great band So much talent on show, and those drum fills from David are wonderful Kristin and Tanya - man, are they both fantastic or what 😎
Thinking back in old age memories.......heard this back in 91 on the college radio (Houston Tx) here in San Antonio think it was the same. College radio at least back then played everything from punk to new wave metal blues grass zydecho..........now its just.....meh.
Great memories of recording off the radio. Then a second recording of cutting out the Dj’s voice. Unless you were recording the John Peel show, he always left a few seconds before and after songs, knowing what we were doing. Great man, great voice & so greatly missed 😢
